Here is some more information about prices and the cost of living in Izmir as of Summer 2022. Remember that prices can change quickly here.
If you plan stay in Izmir for a year or longer and plan to rent an apartment then you might want to check out the sahibinden website. We personally would be happy in a small 1 or 2 bedroom about 60 square meters (or 650 square feet). Right now (Summer 2022) these are renting for around 5000 TL or USD$300 per month, but prices vary greatly depending on the neighborhood, age of the building, etc. We suggest adding another $50 to $100 for utilities (higher is summer and winter and lower in spring and autumn). For food we generally eat only two meals a day and eat out a couple of times per week. Based on current food costs, we think $350 per month would be a good food budget for us in Izmir. Our health insurance is US$250 per month, but health care is generally inexpensive here. Here is a budget we think we could live on in Izmir (but everyone's lifestyle is different and it might be higher or lower for you):

Street food in Turkey. Today we went to the Izmir Kemeralti Bazaar to try some awesome street food, including the best kazandibi and şambali, on an epic Turkish street food tour.

The best place to try street food in Turkey is at the bazaars, and in Izmir, the Kemeralti Bazaar is where the action is. The street food here is the best! We started our day off pretty sweet, trying the famous şambali from one of the street food stalls. The şambali surprised us with how creamy and dense it was, a true street food treat in the bazaar and Izmir specialty.
To match our sweet start to the day, we stopped for a coffee at a local place that makes a very special version of Turkish coffee, it’s so special they even patented the way that they make it! The Izmir Kemeralti Bazaar is always full of the best street food surprises.
We couldn’t not experience the popular pickle juice from one of the best places in the Izmir Kemeralti Bazaar, so we got ourselves a cup that nearly blew our socks off!
To continue our street food tour in Turkey, we tried the manisa kebap, meaty, buttery, and with a dollop of yogurt, it was so amazing and full of flavour. Next stop in the Izmir Kemeralti Bazaar was to try the best Izmir kazandibi, an incredible dessert that is made by burning the bottom of the pan before serving.
To finish off our Turkish street food tour, we had the best drink in the bazaar, a black mulberry sherbet that was so juicy and flavourful!

IS IZMIR WORTH VISITING? ???????? | Izmir, Turkey
In this video we are in a new city in Turkey, and we spend the day exploring the sites and flavours of Izmir!! Watch as we start our day off with some Boyoz, a famous pastry here in Izmir, and get an early dessert of Izmir Bombasi (or Izmir Bomba), which are basically cookies stuffed with nutella and other goodness! We then walk along Izmir's Boardwalk known as Kondor towards an ancient agora called Smyrna before walking further through the city to Asansor (Izmir's elevator building) to get incredible views over the city! We finish our day by tasting another famous food in Izmir called Kumru!

Turkish Street Food Tour In Istanbul 2022 Kumru 4k Ultra HD
Kumru is a Turkish sandwich on a bun, typically with cheese, tomato, and sausage.
The name of this street food translates as 'collared dove', and derives from the shape of the sandwich.
The original kumru was ring-shaped and covered with sesame seeds.
The present one appeared in the mid-20th century, and soon became very popular.
The secret of its popularity is in its tasty and soft bread, specially produced by some local bakeries and restaurants with added chickpea sourdough. Some kumru vendors also serve it with pickled cucumbers, hot pepper, mayonnaise and ketchup.

Mai puțin cunoscut printre turiștii străini, Izmir ocupă locul 3 în topul celor mai populate orașe ale Turciei. Este un oraș portuar a cărui poveste a fost scrisă de-a lungul anilor de prea multe popoare: romani, perși, turci, evrei, armeni și mulți alții au contribuit la modelarea acestui loc. Cu toate astea, noi am cunoscut un loc liniștit, unde rutina zilnică părea să se desfășoare într-un ritm ceva mai lent.
Localnicii din Istanbul ne-au spus adesea povești despre calmul Izmirului, despre cum viața este mai liniștită acolo, mai ușoară. Cu toate că noi ne-am găsit liniștea în haosul din Istanbul, ne-a plăcut mult și Izmir. Ne-a lăsat impresia unui oraș calm, unde viața de zi cu zi și rutina nu devin o provocare.
Deși sunt într-adevăr multe asemănări între Izmir și orașele din vestul Europei, tradițiile nu se pierd atât de ușor. La numai câteva minute de bulevardele cochete ale orașului, te poți pierde pe străduțele înguste ale bazarului în căutarea unei cafele turcești ????
