The GREAT WALL OF PAKISTAN in Kot Diji & Visiting Sukkur | Sindh Road Trip Day 2(Pakistan VLOG #6)

Hey guys and welcome to a new video! Today we are visiting Kot Diji, which is often called the great wall of Pakistan - a super impressive fortress in the Sindh Province of Pakistan.

Afterward, we went to visit Faiz Mahal, which was unfortunately closed that day. Eventually, we made it to the Seven Sisters in Sukkur, where we enjoyed some fantastic views over the Indus River and Sukkur - while learning more about the interesting history behind it.

Later, I flew my drone and met dozens of cute Pakistani kids from a local village - and even saw some rare dolphins in the river of Sukkur. It was just another eventful day on our Road Trip through Sindh. #Pakistan #Sindh #KotDiji #Sukkur

Kot Digi Fort

The Kot Diji Fort (Fort of the Daughter), formally known as Fort Ahmadabad, is a 19th century Talpur-era fort located in the town of Kot Diji in Khairpur District, Pakistan about 25 miles east of the Indus River at the edge of the Thar Desert.
The fort sits above a pre-Harappan Civilization archaeological site dating to 2500 to 2800 B.C.E.
The Kot Diji Fort was built by Mir Sohrab Khan Talpur, between 1785 and 1795.
The site sits on a hill at the southern end of the Rohri Hills, and sits above a prehistoric mound of the same name, where remains of a pre-Harappan civilization have been found.
The fort sits atop a 110 foot tall high hill that rises above the city of Kot Diji.
The fort's 30 foot tall walls encircle the uppermost portion of the fort, resulting a narrow-width fortress with perimeter of 1.8 kilometres.
The fort contains three strategically placed towers that are each 50 feet tall.
The fort contains several sites for cannon placement, and contains numerous inner passages for protection.
The fort also contains a water reservoir, munitions storage, prison, courtroom, numerous cells for security personnel, and a small regal residence.
Government of Pakistan has declared it a protected heritage site in Pakistan, though it has been noted that portions of the fort are under control of powerful local families.

Ranikot Fort: The Great Wall of Sindh - Heritage Tourism in Pakistan [4K] Ultra HD

Ranikot Fort

Ranikot, often referred to as the ‘’Great Wall of Sindh,’’ stands as one of the world’s largest forts. Situated approximately 30 kilometres from Sann town in the Jamshoro district of Sindh, Pakistan, this colossal fort is a testament to historical grandeur.

The fortification wall encircling the majestic Rani Kot extends over a staggering 35 kilometres, linking together rugged hills. Though believed to have been constructed in the first quarter of the 19th century, the precise origins of this citadel are veiled in the passage of time. Following the natural contours of the hilly terrain, the fortification wall features robust semi-circular bastions placed at intervals. Encompassing three sides of the area, the northern side relies on the lofty peaks of higher hillocks for its defence.

Within this sprawling complex lies a smaller fortress known as Miri Kot Fort, situated approximately 5-6 kilometres inside the main gate, which is thought to have served as the royal residence for the ruling Mirs family. A double-door gate stands on the southern side of the fortress. Upon entering, two niches adorned with intricate floral designs and carved stones catch the eye. The entire architectural structure of the fort is crafted using stone and lime, showcasing an impressive display of craftsmanship.

Kotdiji An ancient town of Pakistan | Street View of footprints of Indus Valley Civilization

Salar Lateef - The Vlogger presents Street View of footprints of Indus Valley Civilization; Kotdiji An ancient town of Pakistan.

According to the #Wikipedia Kotdiji was the forerunner of the Indus Civilization. The occupation of this site is attested already at 3300 BCE. The remains consist of two parts; the citadel area on high ground (about 12 m), and outer area. The Pakistan Department of Archaeology excavated at Kot Diji in 1955 and 1957.

Located about 24 kilometers south of #Khairpur in the province of #Sindh #Pakistan it is on the east bank of the #Indus opposite Mohenjo-daro.

The site is situated at the foot of the #Rohri #Hills where a fort (Kot Diji Fort) was built around 1790 by the #Talpur dynasty ruler of Upper Sindh, Mir Suhrab, who reigned from 1783 to 1830 AD. This fort built on the ridge of a steep narrow hill is well-preserved.

The development of these farming communities in different parts of #Baluchistan also known as #Balochistan and Lower #Sind ultimately led to #urbanization. The earliest fortified town to date is found at Rehman Dheri, dated 4000 BCE in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa close to River Zhob Valley. Other fortified towns found to date are at Amri (3600–3300 BCE) and Kot Diji in Sindh and at Kalibangan (3000 BCE), India at the Hakra River.

The earliest occupation of this site is termed 'Kot Dijian', which is pre-Harappan, or early formative Harappan.

At the earliest layer, Kot Diji I (2605 BC), copper and bronze were not used. The houses and fortifications were made from unbaked mud-bricks. Lithic material, such as leaf-shaped chart arrowheads, shows parallels with Mundigak layers II-IV. The #pottery seems to anticipate Harappan Ware. Later, #bronze was used, but only for personal #ornaments. Also, use of the #potters #wheel was already in #evidence.

The Early Harappan phase construction consists of two clearly defined areas. There is a #citadel on high ground for the elites separated by a defensive wall with bastions at regular intervals. This area measures about 500 ft x 350 ft. The Outer area, or the city proper, consisted of houses of mud bricks on stone foundations.

Pottery found from this site has designs with horizontal and wavy lines, or loops and simple triangular patterns. Other objects found are #pots #pans #storage #jars #toy #carts #balls #bangles #beads #terracotta #figurines of #mother #goddess and #animals bronze #arrowheads and well-fashioned #stone implements. A particularly interesting find at Kot Diji is a toy #cart which shows that the potter’s wheel permitted the use of wheels for #bullock carts.
