The Avon Valley Railway (AVR) is a three-mile-long heritage railway based at Bitton station in South Gloucestershire, England, not far from Bristol and is run by a local group: The Avon Valley Railway Company Ltd. The railway follows the Avon Valley south-east from Oldland Common, through Bitton and alongside the River Avon towards Kelston and Bath. The railway shares its route with the Sustrans cycleway and footpath, the Bristol & Bath Railway Path.
Avon Valley Railway is part of the otherwise-dismantled Midland Railway Mangotsfield and Bath Branch Line, which was closed in 1966 as a result of the Beeching cuts and due mainly to the Great Western Railway being just a few miles to the south, which also connected Bristol and Bath .
Bitton station and its yard, including some trackbed, was leased from British Railways Board by the Bristol Suburban Railway Society, a group of local volunteers intent on restoring commuter and weekend steam use to the Bristol-Mangotsfield-Bath and Mangotsfield-Yate railway routes.
As a tourist attraction, the Avon Valley Railway now handles 80,000 visitors per year. The AVR provides round trip steam train travel from Bitton Station north to Oldland Common then south to Avon Riverside station. The line is open to travellers on most weekends.

Radstock is a town in Somerset, England, 9 miles south west of Bath, and 8 miles north west of Frome. It is within the unitary authority of Bath and North East Somerset and had a population of 5,620 according to the 2011 Census. Since 2011 Radstock has been a town council in its own right.
Radstock has been settled since the Iron Age, and its importance grew after the construction of the Fosse Way, a Roman road. The growth of the town occurred after 1763, when coal was discovered in the area. Large numbers of mines opened during the 19th century including several owned by the Waldegrave family, who had been Lords of the Manor since the English Civil War. Admiral Lord Radstock, brother of George, fourth Earl Waldegrave, took the town's name as his title when created a Baron.
The spoil heap of Writhlington colliery is now the Writhlington Site of Special Scientific Interest, which includes 3,000 tons of Upper Carboniferous spoil from which more than 1,400 insect fossil specimens have been recovered. The complex geology and narrow seams made coal extraction difficult. Tonnage increased throughout the 19th century, reaching a peak around 1901, when there were 79 separate collieries and annual production was 1,250,000 tons per annum.
However, due to local geological difficulties and manpower shortages output declined and the number of pits reduced from 30 at the beginning of the 20th century to 14 by the mid-thirties; the last two pits, Kilmersdon and Writhlington, closed in September 1973. The Great Western Railway and the Somerset and Dorset Railway both established stations and marshalling yards in the town. The last passenger train services to Radstock closed in 1966. Manufacturing industries such as printing, binding and packaging provide some local employment. In recent years, Radstock has increasingly become a commuter town for the nearby cities of Bath and Bristol.
Radstock is home to the Radstock Museum which is housed in a former market hall, and has a range of exhibits which offer an insight into north-east Somerset life since the 19th century. Many of the exhibits relate to local geology and the now disused Somerset coalfield and geology. The town is also home to Writhlington School, famous for its Orchid collection, and a range of educational, religious and cultural buildings and sporting clubs.
The main geological feature in this area of the Mendip Hills south of Hallatrow consists of Supra-Pennant Measures which includes the upper coal measures and outcrops of sandstone. The southern part of the Radstock Syncline have coals of the Lower and Middle Coal Measures been worked, mainly at the Newbury and Vobster collieries in the southeast and in the New Rock and Moorewood pits to the southwest.
Radstock was the terminus for the southern branch of the Somerset Coal Canal, which was turned into a tramway in 1815 and later incorporated into the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. It then became a central point for railway development with large coal depots, warehouses, workshops and a gas works. As part of the development of the Wilts, Somerset and Weymouth Railway an 8-mile (13 km) line from Radstock to Frome was built to carry the coal.

35028 'Clan Line' On The Atlantic Coast Express 10/08/19
In truly testing conditions, Merchant Navy No.35028 'Clan Line' was at the head of UK Railtours 'Atlantic Coast Express' heading from London Waterloo to Exeter, along the West of England Mainline.
We start this chase at Byfleet & New Haw, where Clan Line had been put onto the slow line for a short section. Shutting off just before the station, the locomotive throws out some heavy smoke just as a heavy shower starts.
Having got ahead, we next see 35028 storming up the 1 in 165 at Grateley, where I was struggling to control the camera in the 50 mph wind.
A quick dash down the A303, we managed to get to Tisbury to see the train roaring through the countryside.
Next came the highlight of the day, at Honiton Tunnel, where the locomotive is seen climbing the 1 in 80 of Honiton bank, managing to top the summit at 27 mph.
After 35028 had been serviced at Exeter it was time to head back to Waterloo. The route back would take the line va Bristol and Westbury, to get back to the West of England line at Salisbury.
Having climbed Whiteball, 35028 is see speeding out of the tunnel in the afternoon sun, having topped the gradient in the tunnel.
With the next planned shot at Upton Scudamore abandoned, due to the field having crops obscuring the view, we found a nice S-bend at Sherrington, were the locomotive is seen heading for the service stop at Salisbury.
For one last shot we headed to Hurstboune Viaduct, where the train is seen making a speedy return to London Waterloo.
This hand been a great run for the locomotive, covering over 400 miles in the day.

Finding The Secret Garden Centre Well Hidden in Keynsham, Bristol
Who would have thought that hidden away in Keynsham in the city of Bristol, England is a Secret Garden Centre; access to which is more akin to driving along narrow country roads in the heart of the countryside of Cornwall rather than on main roads that you would normally expect to find in cities.

We only recently got to know about the Garden Centre by word of mouth, and since discovering it’s existence it’s now become our preferred first option when shopping for garden supplies; primarily because being a local family run business it’s plants are a significantly cheaper than the array of national garden centres scattered around Bristol. On our first visit we bought tomato plants (6 inches tall) for just 99p each rather than the usual £2.99 per plant.
And on the corner of the main road leading to the rather quaint country roads and onto the Secret Garden Centre is the ‘Rest-A-While-Café’; which we haven’t tried, but its name and location (stuck in the middle of nowhere) makes it look and sound intriguing.

This video is of the car journey starting from the ‘Rest-A-While-Café’ along the country roads in the city and, after our stop at the garden centre, the return journey home to Fishponds on the Staple Hill border, in Bristol.
It was a fine sunny day, so a pleasant drive back along city roads, with plenty of views of bright blue sky highlighting some of the greenery and beauty of the city.

Melksham is a town on the River Avon in Wiltshire, England, about 4 ¹⁄₂ miles northeast of Trowbridge and 6 mi south of Chippenham. Melksham developed at a ford across the River Avon and the name is presumed to derive from meolc, the Old English for milk, and ham, a village. On John Speed's map of Wiltshire (1611), the name is spelt both Melkesam (for the hundred) and Milsham (for the town itself). Melksham was a royal estate at the time of the Norman Conquest.
Melksham is also the name of the Royal forest that occupied the surrounding of the area in the Middle Ages. An announcement was made in the Bath Chronicle in June 1792 of the establishment of the Melksham Bank by the firm of Awdry, Long & Bruges. In November 1813 the misquoting of part of an advertisement in two London newspapers caused panic amongst the bank customers, many of whom quickly withdrew their money, reportedly causing some bustle among the partners of the bank.
In 1815 the Melksham Spa Company was formed by a group of 'respectable gentlemen', with names such as Methuen, Long and others, all of whom had done very well from the now declining textile industry. Their aim was to promote a spa, after abortive attempts to find coal had uncovered two springs.
The civil parish of Melksham includes Melksham Forest, formerly a separate settlement 0.8 miles (1.3 km) to the northeast and now a suburb of the town. It has an Anglican church (St Andrew) and a Methodist church Based upon its overall road length, the shortest street in Melksham is aptly called Short Street, situated at the top of Melksham Forest.
The parish of Melksham Without includes several villages and suburbs of Melksham:
Bowerhill, a large residential community generally considered as separate from Melksham, with a large industrial area
Hunter's Meadow, a relatively new district north of Bowerhill
Berryfield, a village south of and adjacent to Melksham, often considered part of the town
Beanacre, a village to the north, again often considered as a northern suburb of the town.
Melksham has an Assembly Hall and the Rachel Fowler Centre while many of the surrounding villages have community halls which offer a wide variety of activities. Melksham Oak Community School offers a variety of sporting and cultural facilities to the community of Melksham.
The town is served by Melksham railway station, on the branch of the Wessex Main Line from Chippenham to Trowbridge, and currently it is served by eight trains in either direction each weekday (5 to 7 on Sunday), up from just 2 a day prior to December 2013. Trains are operated by Great Western Railway.
Melksham is on the north-south A350 main road from the M4 motorway (Junction 17, near Chippenham) to Poole on the south coast. It is served by bus companies including Faresaver and First West of England. The A350 stretch directly to the south of the town has been designed to allow for possible future expansion to dual-carriageway status if required.

Welcome back to another video from SpottersUK Today we're at Keynsham on the Great Western Mainline between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads Via Swindon and Chippenham. Keynsham is one of the only stations along the Southern end of the route where the train is fully able to pick up some speed through a station along the route, Oldfield Park is also a station where the train passes through however if the train is coming from Bristol the driver will have begun to break for the upcoming station which is Bath Spa, a Major Station in this particular route!
Keynsham is Great, the view looking down towards Bristol is Incredible and also looking back towards bath is a long Sweeping Bend and sometimes you can get a great Shot of the IET's Curling round. Keynsham does not serve any mainline services bound for london, Only Services towards Weymouth, Bristol Temple Meads, FIlton Abbey Wood, Gloucester, Great Malvern and also Westbury. Keynsham does infact have a large catchment area of passengers using the train as the platforms do begin to fill up about 20 minutes before the train arrives, Thankfully the platforms are extremely long so you're not in passengers way and can maintain social distancing!
I do really enjoy Keynsham and if you like fast passing trains and live in the area i would say check it out and tell me what you think i arrived at keynsham at 6 Minutes passed 9 so these trains were rather early in the morning! 6233 Duchess of Sutherland battles frozen points on The Bath & Bristol Christmas Express | 10/12/22
Today's video is of LMS Duchess Class 4-6-2 6233 Duchess of Sutherland hauling the Bath and Bristol Christmas Express heading to Bath and Bristol from London Victoria, seen at Bath Spa and at Keynsham.
I took the 08:12 XC HST train to Bristol, meeting @adtrainvids9569 at Bristol. Here problems began to filter in, and a total meltdown was happening in the Bathampton area due to frozen points. I travelled to Keynsham firstly, but with irregular services and no internet connection I continued up to Bath Spa to see it instead. We were smoked out but I think I did my best to save the shot lol as she powered away to Bristol (props to the crew for not slipping)! After that I headed out to see some family friends for a few hours before seeing @WestCountrySteamVideos at Bath, and meeting for a shot at Bradford-on-Avon. She came powering through the fog at quite a speed! Although she was late I still managed to get the 19:31 off Bristol back to Birmingham, and after that I went to see a close friend in Birmingham before returning home. Hope you enjoy!!
