The Ultimate JAYUYA Travel Guide | Piedra Escrita, Museo del Cemí, Indigenous Festival and MUCH MORE

Jayuya is the type of place where every corner, street, river, mountain, and person holds an incredible story from our past as a nation. This is a place where you might unknowingly pass by an unassuming building without realizing its profound importance at some moment.

A place with pristine natural landscapes that were sacred to our indigenous Taíno ancestors whose traditions, history, and culture live on to this day thanks to the determination and dedication of the people of Jayuya. A place that played a monumentally important role in our history and shaped the Puerto Rico we live in today.

And a place that surpassed our expectations and captivated our hearts.

Must-See Places In Puerto Rico | Part 1: Coffee, Mountains, Culture and Canyons

Hi and Welcome to our channel. Today we are sharing with you some Must-See places in Puerto Rico in an Epic Road trip through the mountains of the Island. We are taking you to Hacienda Tres Picachos for a delicious Coffee, then we will take you to an awesome Taíno Museum and later to an amazing breathtaking Canyon!

PART 2 OF THIS INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE:

OUR FUN TORO NEGRO ADVENTURE AND CHARCO DONA JUANA!

Our first stop is Café Tres Picachos! Established in 1960, the family-owned Hacienda Tres Picachos is a must stop if you are in Jayuya. The Hacienda is surrounded by a breathtaking view of the Tres Picachos Mountains and full of historical antiques and objects related to Taino and Puerto Rican culture.

Piedra escrita translates roughly as Engraved Stone. The area is a large, protected park with a good parking lot and a beautiful long boardwalk that takes you to the river, so getting there is quite accessible. The Piedra escrita itself is right in the river at the end of the boardwalk.

El Cemi Museum, devoted to ancient religious artifacts of the Taino culture.

Canon Blanco is a water carved canyon on the caonillas river. The bright white color, smooth texture and interesting shapes of the towering rocks make it a truly unique landscape in Puerto Rico and in the whole world. The most famous boulder in the canyon is called El Sofa because it looks like a huge couch.

Day 1: Trip to Jayuya, Puerto Rico! Hacienda Gripinas, La Casona & Flat Tire in Ciudad del Tomate

We drove up to Jayuya, Puerto Rico to spend a few days in the high country. On our first day we drove a long way through the winding roads through towns like Utuado until we finally reached Hacienda Gripinas. We ate at La Casona and then had a flat tire in the dark and rain! Thankfully we were able to get it fixed and back on the road where we explored a little more of the city the next day.

Scary Hills! Cerro de Punta, Jayuya -Highest Point in Puerto Rico! Lago Caonillas, Utuado

We visit the highest point in Puerto Rico: Cerro de Punta in Jayuya on our last day of our trip. The road was so washed out that we had to walk the incline for about a kilometer. It was really cloudy and misty out, but it was still a great spot. The next day we went home, but not before getting lost and having to go down a very crazy and steep hill that ended near Lago Caonillas in Utuado. This lake is a reservoir that was dammed up in 1948.

Jayuya, Puerto Rico: Hacienda Victoria Lucia, Hacienda San Pedro, Bodega de Brujas, El Refugio

On our getaway to Jayuya we stopped at PF Changs in Ponce, 3 Pueblos (Utuado, Jayuya, Ponce) before checking in at Hacienda Victoria Lucia, a beautiful new place to stay and get food too! We played in the pool and hiked around a bit before getting some food at El Refugio. The next day we visited Hacienda San Pedro, a wonderful coffee hacienda with a big, green turtle lake! We also had fun at La Bodega de las Brujas, a fun shop with a witch-theme.
