SHOCKED by Scotland (it's beautiful!) | Best things to do in Lewis and Harris Island

In this vlog we tour Scotland with Rabbies to the isle of Lewis and Harris, a beautiful island, and find the best things to do ⬇ More Below

We're spending the next few days exploring Scotlands largest island and trying to find the best things to do in Lewis and Harris. We took a tour in England with Rabbies last year also and loved it. So we're back to check out a new country all together. Watch last years series here —

Safe to say that Scotland has completely blown us away - the Isle of Lewis and Harris is stunning! It's a shame more people don't get out to Lewis and Harris when they travel to Scotland though and focus on Isle of Skye instead.

This is our first time in Scotland so all we had to go by was the experience of friends, we'd been told it was going to shock us in the best way possible. They were right. The beaches in Lewis and Harris would probably be considered the best thing to do in our book, not only are they covered in white sand, long and beautiful but they remind us a lot of New Zealand.

Hope this helps if you're planning a trip to Scotland or wanted to specifically know what some of the best things to do in Lewis and Harris.

This is the tour around Lewis and Harris we took, there's plenty of other Rabies Tours also —

Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and most historic town. It features well-preserved architecture from a wide range of time periods, from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. It is one of the best places to visit in Scotland for history enthusiasts and explorers. Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, is the best place for music, shopping, and cultural enthusiasts. It's a city that's constantly evolving, with plenty to do for people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests. Another place of interest is East Lohan. It has a little bit of everything, including the city, the coast, and the countryside, and makes for a perfect vacation destination.

For beach lovers, the Hebrides would be the ultimate destination. The Western Isle is home to beautiful beaches and mountain trails for hiking. Luskentyre Beach is very well-liked by the locals. The beach is gorgeous, with golden sands and blue water and picturesque mountains in the distance.
Dundee, Aberdeen, and Stirling are some of the best places to visit in Scotland for those who enjoy the stunning architecture. The St. Machar's Cathedral, medieval Stirling Castle, and V&A Museum indicate the architectural prowess of the Scots.

There is more than enough to eat, drink, and places to visit within the 32 administrative subdivisions of Scotland.

STORNOWAY (Mini-Travel Guide): Gateway to Scotland's Outer Hebrides

As the only town in the north west Highlands and Islands, the bustling little port of Stornoway is a fixture on UK weather maps despite its modest population. It's the commercial and cultural centre for the Western Isles and has plenty to offer visitors, from shopping for Harris Tweed to enjoying a concert at An Lanntair. If you've made it this far then make time for Stornoway!
In this brief guide you'll see:
Lews Castle;
Museum of the Western Isles ( with 6 genuine Lewis chessmen - no longer replicas as stated in the film);
An Lanntair Arts Venue;
The Herring Girl Sculptures;

The Harbour;
and numerous cafes!

5 Places in Scotland you must see before you die ????????????????????????????

Touring the Outer Hebrides, the Isle of Lewis, Scotland - Part 6

This video is filmed in 4K and is the final part of a series touring the beautiful Outer Hebrides, Scotland in our little white motorhome.

PART 6 – In this final video of the series we move on from Harris to Lewis, where we stay at Ardroil Campsite and explore from there. We visit the huge sands of Uig Bay, the Callanish Standing Stones, the Uig Chessman, the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Gary Beach, the Mangersta Sea Stacks, Cliff Beach, Eoropie Beach and the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse. Then sadly the time has come for us to catch the ferry and say goodbye to these amazing Hebridean Islands - however long you have on these islands it will never be long enough! We had around 5 weeks and we still didn't manage to fit everything in that we wanted to see and do. So, of course... we will just have to come back!

I sincerely hope you have enjoyed the series and if so, please could you help us by clicking the like and subscribe buttons, it's completely free to do so and will really help our brand new channel grow. In the meantime we are off on our travels to bring you more adventures which will be coming soon.

Thank you so much for watching.
Barbara and John

PART 1 - we start our journey from Oban, taking the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry to Castlebay, Barra. Our first campsite is Borve Camping and Caravan site and it's from here we start to explore the Isles of Barra and Vatersay.

PART 2 - we move on to Scurrival Campsite, where we discover more beautiful beaches, the ancient Cille Bharra Church and of course the famous Barra Airport where we film the aircraft taking off and landing on the beach - a magical experience.

PART 3 - We take a ferry to the Isles of Uist, where we stay at two different campsites, Moorcroft Holidays and Balranald Campsite, plus a fantastic park-up next to an incredible beach on Berneray.

PART 4 - In this video we travel by ferry from Berneray to Leverburgh on the Isle of Harris, where we spend two nights at Pairc Niseaboist Campsite and explore the local area.

PART 5 - In this Episode we leave Pairc Niseaboist Campsite and treat ourselves to a week's stay in an apartment with stunning views overlooking Luskentyre beach - you seriously do not want to miss this... what an amazing place! We continue to explore the Isle of Harris and make our way to the Hushinish region travelling along a twisty and very picturesque 14 mile single track road. The journey is worth the effort, it was a beautiful drive and we were treated to some spectacular rainbows!

So if you enjoy this first video and the above is of interest to you, then please make sure you subscribe, like and hit the bell, so you don't miss our future episodes.

Places to see in ( Isle of Lewis - UK )

Places to see in ( Isle of Lewis - UK )

Lewis is the northern part of Lewis and Harris, the largest island of the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides. The total area of Lewis is 683 square miles. As both parts of the island are frequently referred to as if they were separate islands, Lewis is known as the Isle of Lewis.

Lewis is, in general, the lower-lying part of the island: the other part, Harris, is more mountainous. Due to its flatter, more fertile land, Lewis contains three-quarters of the population of the Western Isles, and the largest settlement, Stornoway. The island's diverse habitats are home to an assortment of flora and fauna, such as the golden eagle, red deer and seal, and are recognised in a number of conservation areas.

Lewis has a Presbyterian tradition and a rich history. It was once part of the Norse Kingdom of Mann and the Isles. Today, life is very different from elsewhere in Scotland, with Sabbath observance, the Gaelic language and peat cutting retaining more importance than elsewhere. Lewis has a rich cultural heritage as can be seen from its myths and legends as well as the local literary and musical traditions.

The Isle of Lewis has a variety of locations of historical and archaeological interest, including:

Callanish Stones
Dun Carloway Broch
Iron Age houses near Bostadh (Great Bernera)
The Garenin blackhouse village in Carloway and the Black House at Arnol
Bragar whale bone arch
St Columba's church in Aignish
Teampull Mholuaidh in Ness
Clach an Truiseil monolith
Clach Na Thursa, Carloway
Bonnie Prince Charlie's Monument, Arnish
Lews Castle
Butt of Lewis cliffs and Butt of Lewis Lighthouse
Dùn Èistean, a small island which is the ancestral home of the Lewis Morrisons
Ui Church, burial place of the Clan Chiefs MacLeod of Lewis and MacKenzie
There are also numerous lesser stone circles and the remains of five further brochs.

The coastline is severely indented, creating a number of large sea lochs, such as Lochs Resort and Seaforth, which form part of the border with Harris, Loch Roag, which surrounds the island of Great Bernera, and Loch Erisort. The principal capes are the Butt of Lewis, in the extreme north, with hundred foot (30 m) cliffs (the high point is 142 ft (43 m) high) and crowned with a lighthouse, the light of which is visible for 19 miles (31 km); Tolsta Head, Tiumpan Head and Cabag Head, on the east; Renish Point, in the extreme south; and, on the west, Toe Head and Gallon Head. The largest island associated with Lewis is Bernera or Great Bernera in the district of Uig and is linked to the mainland of Lewis by a bridge opened in 1953.

A daily Caledonian MacBrayne ferry (MV Loch Seaforth) sails from Stornoway to Ullapool on the Scottish mainland, taking 2 hours 30 minutes connecting Lewis with the mainland. Lewis has a linguistic heritage rooted in Scottish Gaelic and Old Norse, which both continue to influence life in Lewis.

Isle of Lewis Scotland ????????????????????????????

Escape to Scotland: 10 Unforgettable Experiences Revealed #scotlandvlog #scotland #scotlandtravel

If you’re planning a trip to Scotland, here are some ideas of things you can do and add to your itinerary:
This is Part 2 of our 10 things to do in Scotland, so really now it is 20 things ????

Save this video for later:

1. The Jacobite Steam train, or for Harry Potter fans, the Hogwarts Express, is a great opportunity to see the Highlands. If planning on actually riding it, you will need to book many months in advance, as the tickets sell out very quickly! Keep in mind, the train only runs from early April to late October. It departs from Fort William, and goes all the way to Mallaig, and back. Prices vary from £57 to £89 for adults, and £33 to £63 for children. Check out their website for all the latest prices and to see availability + book tickets. If your plan is to only watch it pass over the beautiful Glenfinnan Viaduct (like we did), the train will pass over the viaduct at 10:45 am and 3:15 pm, but be sure to arrive at least one hour prior, because the car park fills up quick, and you need to walk a good 30 minutes to a good viewing point.

2. The Eilean Donan castle is one of the most photographed castles in Scotland, and is a popular stop for people on their way to the Isle of Skye. Add this famous castle to your stop if visiting the Scottish Highlands.

3. St. Andrews - The Old Course is considered by many to be the home of Golf, as the sport was played there since the early 15th century. Located just 1:27 hour drive by car from Edinburgh, this can even be a day trip for those staying in Edinburgh and want to visit, or play golf.

4. Dunnottar Castle - in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, is a little over 2 hour drive from Edinburgh. This stunning cliffside castle ruin played a huge part in Scotland’s history, due to its strategic location and defensive strength. This is also a popular area for walking and hiking, as well as it offers nice views of the North Sea, with the possibility of spotting dolphins and seals off the coast.

5. Stirling Castle and the National Wallace Monument - This powerful stronghold (Stirling castle) sits very high up on top of volcanic rock, and can be seen even while driving to other places from Edinburgh or Glasgow. From Edinburgh it is a 1 hour drive, and from Glasgow 35 minutes. The cost to enter for adults is £19.50, but if you book online you will save £2. Children cost £11.70, or £10.50 if booking online. Check the website for latest costs and booking. The National Wallace monument is only 10 minutes away from Stirling Castle. It is a 67 meter tower that overlooks Stirling and commemorates Sir William Wallace - remember Braveheart ???? there are 246 steps up to the observatory tower, and there are 3 exhibition rooms within the body of the tower. Unfortunately the tower is not accessible to disabled visitors. Prices range from £9 to £11, and there are packages available for families.

6. There are MANY whisky distilleries to visit, so depending on where you are visiting, check one of them out and find out how the drink is made in Scotland, as well as do a tasting ????

7. Inveraray is a small town in the Scottish Highlands. If you are visiting in July, they have some great Highland Games to check out! The Inveraray castle is the home of the Duke of Argyll, and is a beautiful castle with stunning gardens to visit and spend at least half a day.

8. Oban - the seafood capital and gateway to the Isles, is a town on the west coast of Scotland. Try some delicious seafood, fish and chips, explore McCaig’s Tower (free to enter) and enjoy some beautiful views of the town! Oban is also home to the Oban Distillery - one of Scotland’s smallest distilleries but known for its West Highland flavor.

9. Outer Hebrides Isles - from Lewis and Harris, to Mull, Iona, Islay or Staff (and many more), these isles will take your breath away! You will need to take a ferry to visit any of these, check out the website for the Calmac ferries for times and prices. We only visited Lewis and Harris but hope to return to others in the future. Our ferry left from Uig on the Isle of Skye and took close to 2 hours to arrive in Tarbert, Harris. The ferry was so nice, and had a lot of great food offered in the cafeteria.

10. Clava Cairns - these bronze aged circular tombs and stones are a great visit if staying in Inverness. Besides the circular shaped cairns, there are also standing stones. The Cairns are only 18 minutes from Inverness city center, and 6 minutes away from Culloden Battlefield, and is free to enter.
