Top 10 CITIES Switzerland: Most beautiful Swiss Places – The Highlights [Travel Guide]

Switzerland is full of beautiful cities! They are urban, vibrant and very happening. Although Switzerland is a small country, the diversity among the cities is very noticeable. The architecture, the art and the culture differ a lot from city to city. You will find the cities of Switzerland by the river, lake or even in the valleys. Each city has its unique appearance as well as its hotspots and attractions of where to go to.
Sion is the capital of the very touristy canton of Valais (Wallis). Interestingly, Sion is only little known but ranks easily among the most beautiful cities of Switzerland. Sion feels like being in Italy but is a French-speaking city. Sion is vibrant, full of street art and also a foodie hub. The most remarkable however are the two castles up on the hills. Lugano is the largest city of Ticino in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Lugano lays by the lake, surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and one can feel that Italy is quite near. Lugano charms with its many alleys, culture, lake promenade and its view points. The best view over the surrounding and the city of Lugano you can get at the Monte Brè or Monte San Salvatore. Basel is the hub for the pharmaceutical industry. Basel is an old city and full of culture. It’s important to explore the many alleys with their colorful houses, see the red city hall, the minster and cross the bridges. Basel has a strong connection to its traditions. Important to mention here are the Vogelgryff and the Morgestraich. Bern is the federal city (capital) of Switzerland and the only town that is considered UNESCO world heritage. Very typical for Bern are the many arcades and the fountains. Bern’s old city is really a highlight, thus make sure to spend here at least half a day. Neuchâtel is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, a town that feels Mediterranean and sort of French/Italian. The highlight of Neuchâtel are the lake promenade, the graffiti alley and the collegiate church with the castle. Schaffhausen is probably the largest and best preserved old city in Switzerland. Schaffhausen’s old town charms with its colorful houses and oriel windows (balcony windows). Schaffhausen is easy to explore by walk it’s pretty much car-free. The best things to do in and around Schaffhausen are a visit to the Museum zu Allerheiligen, walking at the Vordergasse alley, going up to the Munot and seeing the nearby Rhinefalls. The Munot is a centre for culture and hosts various events. Zurich is the largest city in all of Switzerland. It’s the hub for innovation and business but at the same time is a very touristy destination. Zurich’s old city concentrates around the Limmat quay. Walk along the river Limmat, enter the many protestant churches or head up to the Lindenhof and Polyterrase to enjoy a great vista over the old city of Zurich. Zurich is modern but also very cultural; the major event being the Sechseläuten festival. Fribourg is a city on two levels. The old city of perfectly preserved and thus great to explore. Ascend the church tower of the St. Nicolas cathedral or the Loretta chapel to enjoy a brilliant vista. Fribourg city has also some similarities with Luxemburg. Solothurn is the most beautiful baroque city of Switzerland. The old town is full of beautiful houses and concentrates around the river Aare. The major landmark is the St. Urseren Cathedral that offers you a great view from its tower. Lucerne is no doubt the most beautiful of the Top 10 Swiss Cities. Lucerne has been a favorite for many tourists since it offers so many great things such as a charming river promenade along the Reuss, a great view over Lake Lucerne (Vierwaldstättersee) and the Swiss Alps and otherwise seems very inviting with its alleys and painted houses. Lucerne’s best attractions are the Jesuitenkirche, Gletschergarten museum and many more. Explore Lucerne on the water by taking a boat ride or head up to Mount Pilatus to get a perfect vista over the Swiss Alps and this old city.

Top 10 Villages of SWITZERLAND – Most beautiful Swiss Towns – Best Places [Full Travel Guide]

Switzerland is a small country full of surprises and wonderful villages. Since decades, Switzerland has been attracting numerous tourists from allover the world. It is the Alps that fascinates most of the visitors but also the very well preserved villages. Although Switzerland is quite small, depending on the region, the villages and towns may look very different. In this video, the 10 most beautiful villages from allover the country will be presented in detail. While there may be a few that you might have heard of, there will be quite some surprises. Gruyères is THE place to experience the medieval vibes in Switzerland. The castle, the museums and furthermore the foodie world of Gruyères are really exciting to experience, do not forget to try fondue, Gruyère cheese and double cream! Zermatt is the most popular village on this list. Visit the many panoramas over the Swiss Alps, see the Matterhorn or simply explore the village of Zermatt itself! Discover the many beautiful traditional wooden houses scattered around this Swiss village! Visit what used to be the smallest municipality of Switzerland: Corippo. Corippo is located in the Valle Verzasca in Ticino. It's a wonderful village full of stone houses and very interesting: ONLY 12 people live in there! Surely, it's not crowded there. Saint-Ursanne is another medieval village; the town that could be in a fairytale. Saint-Ursanne is built along the river doubs and charms with its many medieval houses and wonderful abbey. Guarda - the town of Schellenursli - in the lower Engadin is located in the Rumantsch speaking region of Switzerland. It's far away the urban centres and very quiet. Best to visit during Summer or on Chalandamarz! Grimentz is THE stereotypical village of Switzerland. It's located up in the Swiss Alps and charms with its many traditional wooden houses. The houses are all decorated with red flowers; cheesy and alluring! Lauterbrunnen is another touristy favorite. The village is small but it's located in the Valley of 72 Waterfalls! Enjoy the scenery with its many waterfalls and greens! Do not forget to go up to Wengen and the Jungfraujoch! Epesses is located in Switzerland's wine region at lake Geneva! It's a wonderful village in the middle of the vineyards and definitely offers you enough viewpoints over the wine terraces, lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps. Stein am Rhein is also a very medieval and cultural village. The old town is perfectly preserved and charms with its many painted houses. Spectacular is the No e Wili play that is held on a 10-25 years base. Enjoy swimming in the river Rhine or dining at the Castle Hohenklingen. MORCOTE is the most beautiful Swiss village on this Top 10 list! It's located at Lake Lugano and charms with its appearance of being built at the hill. Stunning is the church Maria del Sasso, the wonder garden in the Parco Scherrer and furthermore the many viewpoints on the hill. Morcote is by the way considered not very touristy. Thus perfect to rank 1st among the Top 10 Villages of Switzerland! WATCH the ENTIRE VIDEO in 4K!

Interlaken, Bern, Thun, Switzerland

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
Interlaken in the heart of the Alps and Bern, at 8:42 are two of the great destinations of Switzerland presented in this practical guide, along with the historic city of Thun at 25:10 in the travel video.
Please subscribe:
Switzerland playlist Interlaken makes a perfect home base for exploring the beautiful mountains all around the central region of Switzerland, offering many hotels, restaurants and shops, and wonderful train and bus connections to get up to the mountain sites. Tourists have been coming to Interlaken and the area since about 1800 when it was first popularized by some romantic painters and then tourism really increased in the 1890s and early 1900s with the opening of railway service.
Some of the world's most spectacular mountain scenery is waiting for you just outside of Interlaken in the heart of the Swiss Alps. In this movie we’re focusing on how to get the most out of your visit to the town. For the more adventurous you can go paragliding. Or for something less adventurous you can just rent a bicycle and go peddle around. There's a lot to see in the Interlaken area. The town itself is relatively flat and you can peddle through the shopping areas and up into the residential zones.
A main activity in town is shopping – all sorts of souvenirs for sale, clothing, you can buy some hiking gear. It's a great place for backpacks, for boots, hats, clothing of all kinds, walking sticks and a T-shirt that says Interlaken.
There's not much of a pedestrian zone that's free of automobiles here but they do have one little lane that's for pedestrians. But the rest of town is very friendly for walking around, the sidewalks are wide and there's always things to look at and things to do.
The great meadow forms a major park, beautifully landscaped and kept in a semi-natural state with flowers and trees and the meadow along one side and grand hotels on the other.
If you’re a gambler there is a casino like there is in most Swiss towns and it's an elegant place. It’s part of the Kursal complex which for 100 years has been a cultural center of the city, set in a beautiful park with fountains and flowers.
Another major attraction worth seeing near Interlaken is the city of Bern the political capital of Switzerland and it's just one hour away by train.
The Bern train station is right next to the old town so your walk through the historic zone begins the moment you arrive. The main street proceeds directly from the front of the train station right through the historic center. It's one street about ten blocks long, but it changes name several times. By the station and it's the Spitalgasse, then it becomes the Marktgasse, then the Kramgasse, then the Gerechtigkeitsgasse. Today, it's the main street of Bern, as it has been for centuries. This road is remarkable, not only for the ancient buildings and arcades that cover both sides, but for the spectacular Renaissance fountains down the middle. Today it's a popular shopping street with surprisingly modern shop interiors, and there's a slight curve with a long line of Baroque façades that combine to produce one of Bern's most impressive streetscapes. This Kramgasse and its buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site that encompasses the entire old city of Bern – a very impressive honor that UNESCO has designated all of the historic area as a World Heritage Site.
At the end of town across the river they have their famous bear pits. In recent years the government has greatly expanded this bear habitat to make it really a pleasant place for the bears to live.
Another important building is the Gothic cathedral with the nation's highest church tower at 328 feet, which you may climb for a bird’s eye view of the historic center. Construction of the cathedral began in 1421 in the Gothic style. It is a three-nave basilica without a transept or aisles, 85 m long and 34 m wide – it is quite huge. The walls outside are supported by flying buttresses and the majority of the building is constructed with local sandstone, and bricks were used for the ceiling for the vaults.
On the train ride back to Interlaken it is easy to get off at the picturesque city of Thun and spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the special ambience of this place, with a river running through the middle of the Old Town and a unique two-level sidewalk on the main pedestrian street. Then return to Interlaken and continue our exploration of this great city.
This video is part of a longer series that we're presenting all about Switzerland, including Lucerne, Zürich, Zermatt, Lugano, Locarno, and a lot of beautiful mountaintops scenery to share with you.

Top 10 Switzerland Places I visited in 2021 – Best Attractions / Highlights [Travel Guide]

I was hopeful to do some international travels in 2021, but instead I stayed back in Switzerland. Nevertheless, I managed to travel around a lot in my home country Switzerland. The year 2021 was full of highlights: I got to discover many hidden gems and other Top places of Switzerland. Thus, after all these travels, I present you my Top 10 Switzerland places that I visited in the year 2021. Switzerland offers so many amazing things: great hiking trails, lakes, cities, villages, adventurous activities and more! I really enjoyed my visit to the city of Thun, which is very comparable to more famous Lucerne. Thun is a wonderful old city with wooden bridges just by the lake with a great alpine panorama and you can even see the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The discovery of the year was my visit to the Lake of Les Brenets (Parc du Doubs) in the canton of Neuchâtel. I would say it's one of the best places to witness the colors of Autumn. Really beautiful were the cruise on the Brenets lake and the visit to the Saut du Doubs. The adventure park at the Rhine Falls were also really thrilling. There are so many great trails with tricky obstacles. Fun, lots of zip lines and great views to the Rhinefalls. Sledding at the town of Bergün was really cool too! The village is very charming during Winter and the train ride up to Preda with the famous glacier express was quite exciting. The toboggan run was fantastic: Great views to the train line when sledding down hill for a couple of kilometres! The hidden gem of 2021 was the Lake at Champex-Lac. It's a wonderful hidden gem that is stunning at any time of the year. The lake looks brilliant and is a true oasis of serenity. A great place to take a break. Chästeilet at the Justital was one of my favorite traditions I got to witness in 2021. It's a unique event, where the farmers are sharing their cheeses among each other through a lucky draw process. It's a great event that very well represents Swiss culture! Up on the Fronalpstock, I had one of my best sunsets I have wintessed in 2021. There was a sea of clouds, which covered the entire landscape. Only few mountains were visible, which gave the scene a wonderful impression. I consider this being a Top destination up in the Swiss Alps. Lake Saoseo was the most beautiful lake I probably have ever visited. For that I had to hike up 2 hours and got so many wonderful impressions. The lake was glowing in a wonderful blue color, which was complemented by the green spruces and golden larches... a top highlight of Autumn in Switzerland. Very enjoyable was my sunrise tour at the Altesch Glacier. The panorama over the glacier and the Swiss Alps was unforgettable. The hike down to the Märjelensee was also very enjoyable, especially when having reached the front of the glacier. The Altesch Glacier is the largest glacier of the Alps! The best trip I made was to Oeschinensee. It's a wonderful lake embedded in the bernese Alps. The lake is a perfect place for hiking. There are a lot of great photospots... in fact, many people say that Oeschinensee is considered an instagram wonder of Switzerland. Really thrilling was also the Alpine Rollercoaster, which shall not be missed when visiting up there. These are the Top 10 best places of Switzerland that I visited in 2021!

// ABOUT THIS VIDEO //

One of the best things to do in Switzerland? EAT! (But being in the Swiss Alps is a close second????)
Switzerland food is incredibly fresh, natural, and tasty. We’ve spent 2 summers living in Interlaken. Here are our favorite Swiss foods, Swiss drinks, and where to find them!

— ????SWISS CHEESE: Of course! Delicious cheese to eat on a picnic, or cheese fondue, and even raclette. Straight from our favorite local place. [Find it on our free map!]
— ????SWISS CHOCOLATE, naturally. It’s what Switzerland is known for!
— ????️SWISS FOOD like local dried sausage and fresh beef.
— ????SWISS CUISINE such as quiche and Sunday bread.
— ????SWISS DISHES. Our favorite is the lamb, but you can’t go wrong with beef or rösti either!
— ????SWISS DESSERTS, including hazelnut cake, and, well, a lot of Swiss cakes!
— ????SWISS DRINKS. Beer is the go-to beverage here! But Brett loves coffee too much to not share his favorite cafes with you.

Top 15 VALAIS / Wallis SWITZERLAND – Best Attractions / Places / Things to do [Travel Guide]

The Canton of Valais / Wallis is one of Switzerland’s most touristy and fascinating regions. It is well-known due to the world-famous Matterhorn, the villages of Zermatt and Saas Fee and the many other skiing resorts. However, the Canton of Valais / Wallis offers way more than these: There are plenty of other attractions such as dams, villages, mountain tops, panoramas, zip lines, lakes, funiculars, glaciers museums, thermal baths, hiking trails, bisses, castles and train lines. This video summarizes the Top 15 attractions in brief, including all the necessary information one needs when planning his/her trip to the Canton of Valais / Wallis.
A highlight is definitely Zermatt with the Gornergrat and the panorama up to the Matterhorn. Furthermore, Zermatt is a wonderful village to visit. The Aletsch Glacier is also a place one shall not miss when visiting the canton of Valais. It's the largest glacier of the Alps. Wonderful is going up to the Eggishorn for the sunrise tour in July/August. The Aletsch Glacier is going to glow in a beautiful golden color. The old town of Sion is very stunning: Italian vibes in the Canton of Valais. Very much alive and apparently a foodie lab! Thus, do not miss to take your dinner there: Hérens beef, valaisans tomatoes and apricots are local specialities. Also visit the 2 castles of Sion. The Pierre Gianadda Foundation is considered to be one of Switzerland's top museums. The museum hosts a brilliant collection of paintings (Cézanne, Picasso and Mathys), old cars and roman artifacts. A trip up to the Mont-Fort near the village of Verbier is another highlight of Valais / Wallis. The 360° panorama up there allows you to see the Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn... on your way down, better take the zip line: It's going to be very thrilling! At Martigny, you may also visit the Barryland museum. It's a foundation that takes care of the Barry dog breed; one of Switzerland's national animals. It's a very family friendly attraction. Saas-Fee is a beautiful village to visit, surely because of it's many glaciers. The Metro Alpin up to the Mittelallalin and the ice pavilion are a highlight. Take a break at the baths of Leukerbad. This is premium wellness up in the Swiss Alps! Consider bathing at the Hotels of the Thermal bath of Leukerbad village. Really nice is also the Grande Dixence dam, the largest dam of Switzerland. Very thrilling is the zipline just along the dam! The underground Lake at Saint-Léonard is considered being one of Switzerland's most unique natural treasures. It's a great attraction to visit during rainy weather. The dam at Emosson with the world's steepest funicular and the panoramic train is another hidden gem attraction of Valais. Visit it and enjoy a brilliant vista over Mont-Blanc! Relax at the Lake of Champex-Lac, one of the best lakes one could visit in Switzerland. Pure nature and few people. The Bisse de Clavau is a serene hiking trail in the middle of the vineyards above Sion. From there you may enjoy a great view over the Rhone valley and the Swiss Alps. The Stockalper palace of Brig is a place for people who love to visit medieval heritage places. It's a castle with beautiful arcardes. Not the glacier express but the steam railway train over the Furkapass are considered the most stunning trainline one can take in the canton of Valais / Wallis. Take a journey back to the past and experience what it means to travel with class! All in all, there are too many attractions in the canton of Valais: but in this video, you will see the Top 15 place / attractions that you can visit!
