Greenhow Moor & Plantation, North York Moors - 10 January 2015
An 8mile round trip from the lay by at the top of Clay Bank. The route followed the Cleveland Way over Greenham Moor & Round Hill towards Bloworth Crossing then descended from the moor tops by Ingleby Incline with the return via Greenhow Plantation.

Ingleby Moor & Greenhow Bank, North York Moors - 30 April 2012
A 10 mile circular walk from Ingleby Greenhow up onto Ingleby Moor and returning via Ingleby Incline on Greenhow Bank in the North York Moors. Starting from the village the walk heads towards Ingleby Bank at Bank Foot, climbing steeply to a viewpoint location. From here the walk crosses Ingleby Moor towards the rim of Grain Beck Valley before heading south west along Middle Head Top to Burton Howe , a Bronze Age burial chamber. At Burton Howe the route joins the Cleveland Way heading south towards Bloworth Crossing, here the walk turns a sharp right heading north west and follows the route of the old Rosedale Ironstone Railway towards Ingleby Incline, the ¾ mile straight where ironstone descended down from the moors to the Cleveland Plain below. Here the walk follows the old line of the railway back towards Bank Foot and then returns the same way as previous, passing Ingleby Manor then entering the village and returning to the starting location at Ingleby Greenhow church.

Ingleby Greenhow, Round Hill & Bloworth Crossing, North York Moors - 18 November 2012
Starting at Ingleby Greenhow the route heads towards Bank Foot and then onto Ingleby Incline. After this climb the route joins the Cleveland Way and heads west towards Round Hill, the highest point in the North York Moors. Leaving the Round Hill and the Cleveland Way the route heads west over Urra Moor towards the ridge above Chop Gate. Following the ridge south the path then turns east into the steep valley of Tripsdale and then on pass the Slape Wath Huts towards Bransdale Ridge where the route turns north and then bears east following the track over Cockayne Ridge. The path heads back towards Bloworth Crossing joining up with The Cleveland Way again and leading north along the ridge of Greenhow Bank and Battersby Moor before descending into Kildale and returning to Ingleby Greenhow via Battersby

Rosedale Historic Railway Walk
A GASBAGS (Great Ayton & Stokesley Biking & Guzzling Society) walk from Bank Bottom near Ingleby Greenhow, going up the Ingleby Incline, past the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge, and round the Rosedale Circuit. Almost all the walk was on the North Yorkshire & Cleveland Railway.
No record of the this railway would be complete without a special mention of Ingleby Incline. This incredible inclined tramway was the only rail link between the moorland Rosedale branch and the marshalling yards at Battersby Junction below. Built by the North Eastern Railway it replaced the Ingleby Ironstone Mining Company's previous narrow gauge railway and incline which terminated at 1200ft and served mines below Burton Head.
The escarpment to the southwest of Ingleby Manor still bears the scars of at least two other inclined tramways built by the Ingleby Ironstone & Freestone Mining Company to serve mining or quarrying operations in the area.
Railway workers cottages were built at both Incline Foot and Incline Top - the latter christened Siberia by the inhabitants on account of the frequent treacherous weather conditions.
The incline worked on the principle of descending wagons, full of iron-ore, hauling empties up the 1430yd, steep 1 in 5 gradient, attached to long steel ropes revolving in opposite directions around a huge drum and controlled by a brake. Accidents were common, so railway workers were not permitted to ride on either ascending or descending wagons.
The first locomotives to be based at Rosedale were long boilered 0-6-0s, built by Robert Stephenson. By 1900 NER class P (LNER J24) locos, fitted with special tender cabs to help protect crews from severe weather, worked the branch from Incline Top to Rosedale. Rosedale engines normally remained on the high level for several years due to the great difficulties in moving them up and down the incline. This operation involved the removal of the centre driving wheels before the loco could be safely maneuvered onto the steep slope.
After more than sixty years, following the closure of ironstone mining and the subsequent trade in calcine dust from Rosedale in 1929, Ingleby Incline closed. Today all that remains is a pile of rubble at Incline Top and the remote cottages now in private use below. The deep scar that was once the incline still stands proud on the escarpment side as a lasting reminder of this most innovative and industrious period of Ingleby's history.

Westerdale & Baysdale, North York Moors - 10 April 2014
A 16 mile round trip from Hob Hole near Westerdale. The route heads south into Westerdale. Following the valley the route then joins the old Rosedale Ironstone Railway towards Bloworth Crossing and then the Cleveland Way back towards Baysdale. From here the route leaves the Cleveland Way, bearing east and then at Warren Farm, joining a bridleway back to Hob Hole.

A 9 mile round trip from Clay Bank Lay-By, the route follows the Cleveland Way to Round Hill, from here, the route then heads west towards Seave Green and then onto Cold Moor before returning back to the lay-by via the Wainstones.

Rosedale Mineral Railway Line - The Rosedale Round Walk - Rosedale, North Yorkshire, England
The route of the former Rosedale Mineral Railway Line lies just a short distance away from the village of Rosedale Abbey, on the North York Moors, near Pickering in North Yorkshire, England.
It is now used as a popular circular walk of approximately 13 miles, called The Rosedale Round, and follows the route of the old raiklway line around the Head of Rosedale, passing the famous Lion Inn pub at Blakey Ridge en route.
Along its route there are several reminders of it's former use, including several remains of the old calcination kilns and the ruins of a few old railway buildings.
The railway line was constructed between 1861 and 1865 and was used to transport the ironstone from the quarries to the kilns where it was processed, and was in use up until it's closure in 1929.
This video shows the remains of one of the old railway buildings alongside the old railway line.

Rosedale Ironstone Railway, North York Moors - 30 January 2012
A round trip of Rosedale Valley using, for the majority, the remains of the Rosedale Ironstone Railway route. Starting from the car park at Little Blakey the route heads south initially before descending towards Thorgill before climbing back up to the Hill Cottages and the Old Kilns of the Ironstone works. Here the route leads north following the old railway past the new kilns (not so new now) and then turning at the head of the valley back towards Little Blakey. A 13½ mile round walk from Lordstones Cafe. The walk heads south passing the Carlton Moor Glider Club towards Barker's Ridge before turning west onto Whorlton Moor and to Swainby Shooting House. From here the route bears north west following the ridge of Limekiln Bank before descending and joining the Cleveland Way and returning via Scugdale, Round Hill & Carlton Moor.
