Let's dig in to the top destinations in Peru to travel to. Of course, most people visit Peru because they want to see Machu Picchu, and while these Incan ruins are impressive, there is so much more that Peru has to offer! Lima, Peru's capital city is a great place to begin your adventure. This coastal city is beautiful, busy, and known for incredible Peruvian food! There are also the recently discovered Rainbow Mountains, which are still new to the list of tourist attractions in Peru and are bound to get busier and busier as word about them spreads! The beach town of Mancora offers year-round sun and lazy days, which will help you rest up before you visit Huacachina - the adrenaline capital of Peru! Huacachina may looks like a beautiful desert oasis tucked between sand dunes, but don't be fooled - this small town can pack a punch! Thankfully, after the nail-biting experiences in Huacachina, you can head to Cusco to sightsee for a couple of days and learn about Incan history and culture before you visit the iconic wonder of the world: Machu Picchu. In our opinion, the BEST way to get to Machu Picchu is to hike the Salkantay Trail which will take you to Humantay Lake and through the Salkantay Pass. This trek was the absolute highlight of our trip and we highly recommend you take this route if you are able!

Peru is one of the world’s greatest centres for ancient civilization having hosted the well known Inca Empire who left behind one of the richest collections of architecture, metallurgy, ceramics and textiles known to man! The ancient 15th century Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is a must for everyone travelling to Peru and we promise you won’t be disappointed once you discover this new Wonder of the World.

Its internationally recognized gastronomy certainly deserves a special mention since each region boasts its own original dishes with unique flavours.
1. Cusco
Cusco is the ancient capital of the Inca Empire and today is the heart and starting point for every traveler visiting South America! It’s not only one of the most beautiful cities in the continent but also the best hub to visit one of the new 7 Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu.
Its cobblestone narrow streets, unique architecture, historical traditions and festivities, amazing food, the stunning views of the Sacred Valley and Inca ruins make it a must visit place for everyone!

Peru’s most iconic destination and maybe even the most iconic in the entire South American Continent. This new Wonder of the World is a must-see attraction at least once in a lifetime and it guards lots of mysterious histories. It’s not only really popular due to its architecture, history and secrets but because of the stunning panoramic views it offers.
3. Sacred Valley
The Sacred Valley is located in the outskirts of Peru and is one of the most amazing compilations of Inca Ruins and amazing landscapes. There’s a lot to see and learn from but the main and must see attractions are the beautiful ruins of Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Moray, Saqsaywaman, Chinchero and the Maras Salt Mines!

Lake is set between Peru and Bolivia and it’s the largest lake in South America and the highest navigable body of water in the world. The Nazca Lines are one of the world’s most amazing mysteries. In the middles of the Peruvian Desert, distinct white lines gradually evolve and take shape to form simple geometric designs: trapezoids, straight lines, rectangles, triangles, and swirls. Some of the swirls and zigzags start to form more distinct shapes: a hummingbird, a spider, a monkey. This mystery of how these huge figures only visible from the air were created or came to be there are reasons enough to pay them a visit!

This vibrant turquoise lake surrounded by massive snow-capped mountains is Peru’s hidden gem and one of the best day trips from Cusco! Very easily accessible, is the best place to enjoy the amazing nature and head trekking.

Visiting Cusco? Cusco Peru, once the very heart of the great Inca Empire, is one of the best cities to visit in South America. Cusco archaeological sites are world famous and that historical backstory is only part of the amazing things to see, do and experience in the city.
Here are the places you should visit when exploring Cusco
The most famous of all Cusco tourist attractions are the historically renowned archeological sites of the area. Sacsahuaman, a massive fortress and citadel overlooking the city, Tambomachay and the fortified city of Ollantaytambo are just some of the amazing Inca ruins sites around the city and further afield. All of which can are within easy reach of the city. If you're into your history then Cusco really is a must-visit city.
Exploring some of the central points of interest within the city itself is easy enough with a walk around Plaza de Armas - the historic meeting point of the Inca and Cusco's main square - high up on the things to do in Cusco list. There is also a great selection of important museums to visit in Cusco with the chocolate museum proving a popular tourist attraction of Cusco city.
The Sacred Valley and its surrounds are a great place to visit for tourists and offer a most interesting day trip away from Cusco itself. The Sacred Valley represents the heart of the Incan Empire with royal estates flourishing in the fertile land here through the centuries. Today a trip to the Sacred Valley remains one of the great things to do for tourists to the Cusco area.
Both the Moray landscape - which showcases historical cultivation processes and the Maras Salt Mines are situated close to this area.
