Ibagué es la capital del Tolima, uno de los 32 departamentos que conforman la República de Colombia. La ciudad está ubicada en el centro del país, sobre la cordillera central de los Andes colombianos, cerca del Nevado del Tolima. Es una de las ciudades más pobladas del país, con cerca de 600.000 habitantes, lo que la convierte en la séptima (7) ciudad más poblada de Colombia. Fue fundada el 14 de octubre de 1550 por el capitán español Andrés López de Galarza. La ciudad de Ibagué está dividida en 13 comunas y la zona rural cuenta con 17 corregimientos.
