After my week in Jaca, I drove south to the small town of Buera to explore more of the Huesca province. During my time in Buera, I stayed at the charming La Posada de La Lola hotel run by our friends Miguel Angel and his son, Bruno. I explored the beautiful small towns of Alqueza, Ainsa, and Barbastro. Today we’re visiting Alquézar in Huesca, Aragón. One of Spain’s most beautiful villages...
What’s up guys? Patrick here, Tour Guide and Your Guide to Barcelona and more. If you’re new here, my channel is all about helping you get prepared for your next trip to Barcelona, or Spain in general, while uncovering to all those amazing places that this country has to offer! Today we’re heading outside of Barcelona, out of Catalonia to the region next door, Aragon. Specifically Alquezar, a magical town that seems like it’s frozen in time, the perfect place that I love to visit. Alquezar has been one of Spain’s most beautiful villages since 2015, and it’s easy to see why. The name comes from the Arabic Al-Qasr or Alcazar which was a fortress or castle. You might see these more in the south where Muslim influence lasted longer, so having an entire town with this name lets you know exactly what its purpose was in the past: a fortress.
The town dates back to the 9th century and was a military point under Jalaf Ibn Rasid to protect Barbastro from the Christian in the east. Taken by King Sancho Ramirez in the 11th century, the town began to expand and the fortress was turned into a collegiate church in 1099.
One of the four main entrances left to get inside of the city. Check it out.
All around Alquézar they have these things called callizos. Basically additions to the houses that added even more space. They say that what you could do was walk from one end of the town to the other without ever touching the ground.
During the Middle Ages the idea of witches really scared a lot of people and as a form of protection, wild boars ???? hooves were placed above the entrances of many homes to keep their spells away. You can still find some of these hanging on houses!
The thing you have to do is visit the Collegiate Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was remodeled in the 16th century but was originally consecrated in the 11th century. It’s cloister dates to the 14th century and has some really great artwork within. Tours are lead daily throughout at a price of just 2.5€!
What you’ll find on the inside is a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and even Mudéjar style architecture, something not very common in a lot if these churches in the area.

One of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España, located within a nature reserve at the foothills of the Pyrenees, Alquézar in Huesca province is one of the top places to visit in Spain.
The village is especially beautiful and rightfully earns is designation as one of the most beautiful villages in the world. Alquézar is built on a backdrop of gorges and canyons that connect to the Northern Spain mountains. Beautifully colored stone gives the buildings of the village a special quality that camouflage it perfectly with the surrounding landscape.
It lies in the center of a Triangle in between Zaragoza, Andorra and Barcelona and is easy accessed from all 3 of them.
Alquézar has been well kept and the buildings are in top notch shape. The pride of being a beautiful village shows, as streets and structures are well kept unlike some villages that are falling apart.
Highly recommended as a place to go for a picnic or to go canyoning.
There are some super epic hiking trails that bring you through the canyons and close to the cliffs and is a fantastic place for nature lovers, photographers and hikers.

El Valle de Chistau es un precioso ricón del Pirineo de Huesca, situado en pleno Parque Natural Posets Maladeta y muy próximo al Parque Nacional de Ordesa y Monte Perdido.
Se extiende por la cuenca del río Cinqueta, afluente del Cinca, uno de los principales cursos fluviales de Aragón. Se encuentra rodeado de cumbres de entre 2.000 y 3.000 metros de altitud, entre los que destaca la Tuca Llardana (o Posets), que con 3.375 m. es la segunda cumbre más alta del Pirineo. Además, cuenta con abundantes ibones o lagos, como los de Millares, Barbarisa o el ibón de Plan. El visitante puede disfrutar de sus pequeños pueblos, de la tranquilidad y grandeza de las montañas. Contemplación, cultura, senderismo, ascensiones y diferentes actividades de naturaleza y aventura encuentran aquí un espacio ideal.
The Chistau Valley is a beautiful place of the Pyrenees of Huesca, located in the Posets Maladeta Natural Park and very close to the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido.

La Partacua o Partagua es la denominación histórica de uno de los tres quiñones en los que se dividía geográfica y administrativamente el Valle de Tena, en Huesca (España). Este tipo de demarcaciones fueron muy habituales entre los siglos XVI y XVIII, especialmente en valles y territorios de montaña con abundancia de pastos.
El Quiñón de la Partacua comprendía las poblaciones de Tramacastilla, Sandiniés, Escarrilla, Piedrafita, Búbal y Saqués, todas ellas ubicadas en la ribera derecha del río Gállego. Su nombre proviene de la Sierra de la Partacua, montaña en la que se enclava y entre cuyas cimas destacan la Peña Telera (2.762 m) y Punta Escarra (2.760 m). La recorren los cursos fluviales de Escarra y Lana Mayor, afluentes del Gállego. Actualmente dicho territorio se reparte entre los municipios de Sallent de Gállego y Biescas.

Right before the sunset, we've visited this cute little medieval town.It's located in the northern part of Spain, 30km from the border between Spain and France. It has less than 2000 inhabitants but comes with more than 1000 years of history. Biescas is a municipality of northeastern Spain close to the border with France, in the midst of the Pyrenees in the province of Huesca. The name means hill in a Proto-Indo-European language.
The town of Biescas is located at 875 meters altitude on the banks of the Gállego river. The municipality extends along a small plain and includes the canyon to access to the Tena Valley. At 72 km north of the main city Huesca, Biescas is a communication hub between the regions of Jacetania and Sobrarbe. The town is strategically located to crossing the Gállego river, as a link between the valleys of Tena and Ara.
