Horsforth is a suburb and civil parish within the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, in West Yorkshire, England, lying about five miles north west of Leeds city centre. Historically within the West Riding of Yorkshire, it has a population of 18,895 according to the 2011 Census
Horsforth was considered to have the largest population of any village in the United Kingdom during the latter part of the 19th century. It became part of the City of Leeds metropolitan borough in 1974, and became a civil parish with town council in 1999. The electoral ward of Horsforth also includes the southern part of Rawdon.
Horsforth was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Horseford, Horseforde, Hoseforde; but late-ninth-century coins with the legend ORSNA FORD and OHSNA FORD may have come from Horsforth. The name derives from Old English hors or, to judge from the coins, *horsa ('horse') in the genitive plural form horsa/horsna + ford 'ford', thus meaning 'horses' ford'. This refers to a river crossing on the River Aire that was subsequently used to transport woollen goods to and from Pudsey, Shipley and Bradford. The original ford was situated off Calverley Lane, but was replaced by a stone footbridge at the turn of the 19th century.
Horsforth railway station is on the Harrogate Line between Harrogate and Leeds. The station is just outside the Horsforth parish boundary, on the Cookridge side of Moseley Beck. Newlay station, which was built by the Midland Railway, was renamed Newlay & Horsforth station in 1889. It was situated south of the River Aire and was accessible from Horsforth on Pollard Lane which connects Horsforth to Bramley.
Horsforth has a large percentage of sandstone buildings sourced from local quarries, more than any other part of Leeds. A draft design statement was produced in 2010, which summarises much of the architectural and historical character. Given its size, Horsforth has a relatively high number of bars and pubs of varying types from traditional pubs going back to the 17th century to more modern café bars and lounges. Horsforth Town Street has the highest concentration of these with 8 bars and pubs within a short distance of each other. Other popular night life areas include Station Road and New Road Side.

Otley is a market town and civil parish at a bridging point on the River Wharfe in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.
Otley is in lower Wharfedale on the A660 which connects it to Leeds. The parish church (All Saints) has 7th-century origins. Otley lies 28 miles (45 km) south-west of York, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Leeds, 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Bradford, and 196 miles (315 km) from London. The town lies in lower Wharfedale at a bridging point of the River Wharfe where there is a seven arched medieval bridge and is surrounded by arable farmland. The historic town developed on the south bank of the Wharfe, but in the 20th century Otley expanded north of the river, to include new developments at Newall and the Weston Estate.
The south side of the valley is dominated by a gritstone escarpment overlooking Otley called the Chevin and to the north is Newall Carr. In 1944, Major Le G.G.W. Horton Fawkes of Farnley Hall donated 263 acres (1.1 km²) of land on the Chevin to the people of Otley. To the east and west of Otley are flooded gravel pits, where sand and gravel have been extracted in the 20th century. The gravel pits to the east at Knotford Nook are a noted birdwatching site. Those to the west are devoted to angling and sailing.
The main roads through the town are the A660 to the south east, which connects Otley to Bramhope, Adel and Leeds city centre, and the A65 to the west, which goes to Ilkley and Skipton. The A6038 heads to Guiseley, Shipley and Bradford, connecting with the A65. To Harrogate, the A659 heads east to the A658, which is the main Bradford–Harrogate road. Otley bus station is run by West Yorkshire Metro and services are operated by First West Yorkshire, TLC, Utopia and Harrogate Coach Travel. There are local services connecting the town and outlying areas. Otley railway station opened in 1865 and closed in March 1965; the town bypass follows the line of the old railway.
Otley has a diverse range of cultural organisations. It has five active Morris dance sides, the Wharfedale Wayzgoose (Border), The Buttercross Belles (Ladies Northwest), Flash Company (Border, Molly, Appalachian & Clog), Hellz Bellz (Contemporary) and Kitchen Taps (Appalachian Step). Drama groups include the Otley Community Players, Otley Youth Theatre (OY), and a thriving arts centre in the former courthouse. There is a poetry society, which meets monthly in the Black Horse Hotel. The town has a Brass Band who perform at many events in the town.
Otley hosts the annual Otley Folk Festival in September, a Victorian Fayre in December, a carnival in June, and, in May, what is reputed to be the oldest one day agricultural show in the country. This celebrated its bicentenary in 2009. There is a beer festival, organised by the church, in November. Otley once vied with a handful of towns for the distinction of having the most pubs per head of population in England.

Guiseley is a small town in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough in West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is situated south of Otley and Menston, is now a suburb of north west Leeds. At the 2001 census, Guiseley together with Rawdon had a population of over 21,000, increasing to 22,347 at the 2011 Census. The A65, which passes through the town, is the main shopping street. Guiseley railway station has regular train services into Leeds, Bradford and Ilkley on the Wharfedale Line. Guiseley is also served by the stations of Menston to the north and Baildon to the south.
Guiseley was an ancient parish in the West Riding of Yorkshire from the 12th century. The parish also included the townships of Carlton, Horsforth, Rawdon and Yeadon, all of which became separate civil parishes in 1866. In 1937 the civil parish of Guiseley was abolished and merged into the new Aireborough Urban District. In 1974 Aireborough was itself abolished and absorbed into the City of Leeds Metropolitan District in the new county of West Yorkshire.
Guiseley's church, dedicated to St Oswald, was the centre of a large parish that included many surrounding villages. It was used by generations of the Longfellow family. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 5th great-grandfather left here for the New World in the 17th century. The rector of St Oswald's for several decades was Rev. Robert More (died in 1642), the father-in-law of the English explorer, Captain Christopher Levett.
Guiseley has two retail parks: Guiseley Retail Park in the centre of town, and Westside Retail Park between Guiseley and Yeadon. The town has a Morrisons supermarket, charity shops and beauty stores on the High Street, as well as many pubs, bars, takeaways and restaurants located around the town and a leisure centre with swimming pool and gym on The Green.
Many of the retail outlets in the town have been established on the converted sites of old factories or mills. Recently, an increasing number of stores of well known leading brands such as Argos, TK Maxx, Marks & Spencer (food), Asda Living, Currys, Costa Coffee, Next and Sports Direct have been opened in the area. McDonald's, KFC and Subway all have stores in the town. Poundworld have also recently opened a store in the Westside Retail Park.

Recorded over the year 2005 this film follows everyday life, events and happenings in the community. Recorded month by month and, at the end of each month, a resident speaks to camera about his/her hopes for the future of the town. Have any of these happened?
Fascinating to see what the community has lost in that time: Jumble Sales, the Flower Show, Sports Day, the Horsforth Day Centre, Park Lane College (later Leeds City College), Horsforth Leeds Brass Band and, on here, the closure of Woodside School after 143 years and the last of the textile mills.

Horsforth Hall Park, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK - 11th June, 2012 (720 HD)
Horsforth Hall Park is a large community park approximately six miles north-west of Leeds city centre. The park has a number of features including adult exercise facilities, skate park, cricket field, children's play areas, fields, woodland, Japanese Garden and Millennium Garden, bowling green, Indian Restaurant, footpaths criss-cross and circuit the park. This video features footage taken on a rather dull Spring evening whilst I was on a hunt for a Geocache and Munzees, of which there are several in and around the park. The video features some of the approximate areas where these are located without giving any specific locations away.

Horsforth Station, Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK (throughout 2012)
Horsforth railway station is a railway station in West Yorkshire, England. It is on the Harrogate Line 5.75 miles (9 km) north west of Leeds station and the final stop in the Metro regulated area towards Harrogate. The station is located on the Cookridge side of the Moseley beck but has a Horsforth postcode (LS18). Throughout 2012 building work has taken place at the station to create a turn-back facility for the trains, which has also resulted in new electronic sign boards and signalling.
The video is filmed in chronological date order throughout 2012 on a number of different cameras, in all weathers, at both day and night. It features a number of stopping and departing Northern Rail services, as well as the 07:45 East Coast service to London. The train classes within the video are (in order of number), Class 43, Class 142, Class 144, Class 150, Class 153, Class 155, Class 156 and Class 158.
As well as this the station's surroundings including the engineering works, North Eastern Railway signal box, aircraft approaching Leeds Bradford Airport and Moseley Beck are also featured.
Horsforth Railway Station, Cookridge, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England - Throughout 2013
I spend a lot of time travelling by rail, and usually begin my journeys at Horsforth Railway Station. I always have something with me which I can record some video footage with, be it my iPhone, iPad, Flip Ultra or Canon Legria Camcorder, so in the minutes that I'm waiting, I quite often make a few seconds worth of film of either the surroundings or of the passing rail traffic. I have done this for the past three years now, and at the beginning of a new year have released my compilation from the previous year. Here is my compilation of footage from Horsforth Railway Station in 2013. The clips have been put in the order that they were shot chronologically, starting in January and finishing in December. Some shots are by day, and others at night, but all of them capture the moments that I was there waiting.
This film features quite a momentous year for Horsforth Station. The very first clip of this film is at night and features a departing Northbound service. Before the train leaves the station, you can see in the distance the lights of Horsforth signal box. This is the last time that I managed to get any film footage of Horsforth signal box, as only days afterwards it was demolished as the signalling was being run from afar. This is due to the new turn-back facility, which has been built in the rail tracks, allowing more services per hour between Leeds and Horsforth, these are set to commence later in 2014.
In 2013 Horsforth Station subsequently got new electronic display boards and clocks on the platforms, bringing the station a little more into the 21st Century. These have all been captured on the film.

Footage includes the platforms and stations buildings, the singal box, the views down the railway line in both a Harrogate and a Leeds direction, the road bridge over the railway line, Cookridge Beck, a black cat crossing the line and luckily avoiding a Harrogate bound Northern Trains Class 150, and a passing Leeds Bradford Airport bound Ryanair Boeing 737. Also features Northern Rail Class 150 and Class 153 arriving at and departing from Horsforth station.

Horsforth railway station is a railway station in West Yorkshire, England. It is on the Harrogate Line 5.75 miles (9 km) north west of Leeds station and the final stop in the Metro regulated area towards Harrogate. When I travel by train from home, I usually begin my journeys at Horsforth Railway Station. I always have something with me which I can record some video footage with, be it my iPhone, Flip Ultra, Veho Muvi, so in the minutes that I'm waiting, I quite often make a few seconds worth of film of either the surroundings or of the passing rail traffic. I have done this for the past few years now, and at the beginning of a new year have released my compilation from the previous year. Here is my compilation of footage from Horsforth Railway Station in 2017. The clips have been put in the order that they were shot chronologically, starting in January and finishing in December. Some shots are by day, and others at night, but all of them capture the moments that I was there waiting.

A Circular Country Walk Around Cookridge & Horsforth (Leeds) - 4th June, 2012
A circular country walk on Diamond Jubilee Monday from Cookridge up to the lighting pylons to the South East of Leeds Bradford Airport (Runway 32 approach). The walk begins and ends at the top of Moseley Wood Bank, before going along the following streets: Moseley Wood Gardens, Green Lane and Moseley Wood Croft. From the end of Moseley Wood Croft a small woodland path took us on a pedestrian bridge over Moseley Beck, and the Harrogate Line - upon which a Northern Trains Northbound Knaresborough service passes. From the we walked passed a pond and up the meadow hills towards stables and onto Scotland Lane. Here we turned right along Scotland Lane, and then took the public footpath on the left of the road up to the guiding light pylons at the end of Runway 32 at Leeds Bradford Airport - this is a public right of way and not trespassing. From there I filmed a number of aircraft approaching including Jet2, Ryanair, KLM and FlyBE services. We then made our way back to Scotland Lane and walked for a further 700 metres, taking the second right hand side rough track marked 'Public Bridleway' to Cookridge. We walked the length of the track through farm building and across the Harrogate Line, where again we saw a Northbound Northern Train. We then continued up the path past farm houses and farm buildings until we reached Smithy Lane, before walking down Cookridge Avenue to Moseley Wood Avenue, then onto Moseley Wood Gardens, right up Moseley Wood Grove, and left along Moseley Wood Drive until we returned to out starting point at the top of Moseley Wood Bank. The walk distance was between 4 and 5 miles, and the terrain was a combination of easy and moderate with some more challenging parts due to mud. Along this walk we passed two Geocash locations - although I'm keeping there whereabouts quiet so as not to spoil the game!

Temple Newsam is a Tudor-Jacobean house with grounds landscaped by Capability Brown, in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The estate lies to the east of the city, just south of Halton Moor, Halton, Whitkirk and Colton.
Temple Newsam is also the name of an electoral ward for Leeds City Council, which includes the areas of Halton Moor, Halton, Whitkirk, Colton and Austhorpe. Of most significant historical and cultural interest is the Chippendale Society collection of Chippendale works that are on permanent loan. Temple Newsam House is one of Leeds Museums and Galleries sites, and has an international reputation for scholarship and research, unusual in a local authority museum service. In his book Britain's Best Museums and Galleries, Mark Fisher (a former DCMS minister) gives this museum an excellent review. When interviewed on Front Row, Radio 4, November 2004 Mr. Fisher placed Temple Newsam House in the top three non-national museums in the country, along with Birmingham's Barber Institute and the Dulwich Picture Gallery.
Many other events take place at Temple Newsam, such as the Leeds Waggy Walk event for Dogs Trust and Race for Life for Cancer Research UK. As of early 2013, there has also been a weekly Parkrun event.

Horsforth to Leeds on the 07:45 London Inter City Service - 10th December, 2012
Footage taken on the Harrogate Line from the Harrogate to London King's Cross East Coast Trains Inter City 125 as it makes the journey from Horsforth into Leeds. Passed areas include Horsforth, Horsforth Woodside, West Park, Hawksworth, Kirkstall, Headingley, Burley, Armley before the train arrives at Leeds City Station. There is only one Inter City service from Horforth into Leeds per day, so this footage is fairly different to the norm in that it is taken through an open window.
