Honda ( is one of the Heritage Towns of Colombia ( It is located in the department of Tolima ( at 3 and a half hours by car from Bogotá.
It was founded in 1643 by order of the King of Spain as Villa de San Bartolomé. Honda during the Spanish conquest and even until the twentieth century was one of the main river ports of Colombia, because there goes the Magdalena River (
Today, Honda is a great place of passage due to its proximity to Bogotá and several tourist cities of Colombia. It has a warm climate with an average temperature of 33ºC.

Honda is a small town in the Tolima department on the Magdalena River of Colombia. Honda is one of the most important towns of trade and where the ships docked before arriving to Bogota on the Magdalena River in the past.
Colombia is a country in South America which has many cities and towns, and today we are focusing on a town called Honda Tolima. This town is rich in history and culture with some indigenous elements. It's less polluted and less populated than the city but you can get a good feel of some authentic Colombia culture.
Honda is one of 47 towns in the department of Tolima and is a great place to visit or even settle down. Join me on this journey through Honda Colombia.

Cuando pienses en ir a Honda no lo pienses dos veces, el solo recorrido puede parecer tedioso pero este lugar y su gente se entrega al viajero como ninguno, te da la bienvenida y tiene muchas buenas sorpresas esperando a ser descubiertas.
El clima es caliente y húmedo, prepárate para sudar y ten a la mano el protector solar pero una vez adentrado en Honda el calor pasa a tercer lugar y empiezas a disfrutar todo tu alrededor.
Honda es parte de los pueblos patrimoniales Colombianos, lo que hace que contenga un centro histórico muy bien cuidado y con muchos relatos para conocer, también hace parte fundamental de la construcción de Colombia como país pues fue de los primeros puertos construidos sobre del río magdalena que proveía el centro del país rutas para transporte de personas comida e ideas que conllevaron al desarrollo de esta nación.

Bogotá ( is the capital of Colombia and is a very large city with many things to do, but there are even more things to do around Bogotá. There are several towns to spend a weekend of relaxation or adventure.
To the north of Bogotá in a one-hour tour you can visit the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá ( where you can take a tour of the mine and get to know one of the most notable architectural and artistic achievements of Colombian architecture, considered the number one wonder of Colombia ( You can also enjoy a night of partying at Andrés Carne de Res in Chia ( a large restaurant and nightclub on the outskirts of Bogotá. An hour and a half from Bogotá is the Laguna de Guatavita ( a place that tells the story of El Dorado, a lagoon full of gold.
For extreme activities, you can visit Suesca ( Other places located north of Bogotá are the Puente de Boyacá ( and Villa de Leyva (
To the east of Bogotá, you can enjoy a pleasant afternoon at La Calera ( a place recognized for the large number of restaurants it has and activities such as horse riding. Also, 45 minutes from Bogotá you can visit the highest waterfall in Colombia La Chorrera ( or the hot springs of Choachí ( To the east of Bogotá is also the Chingaza National Park ( perfect for enjoying a day of nature.

In the video I talk about eight of them. The first one is Santa Cruz de Mompós in Bolivar. It was founded in 1537 and is located near the biggest river in Colombia, the Magdalena River. Then, there’s Barichara, located in Santander ant it’s known as the prettiest town in Colombia. In third place is Honda. It was founded in 1539 and it’s a three-hour drive form Bogotá. In fourth place is Jardín, Antioquia. It’s surrounded by hills and it’s a three-hour drive from Medellín (Watch full video about Jardín: Then there is Santafé de Antioquia. Founded in 1541 and one of the most popular towns in Colombia due to its proximity to Medellín, a major Colombian city (Watch full video about Santafé de Antioquia: The next town is Monguí, situated in the Boyacá department. It’s a two to three-hour drive from the capital and has an altitude of 2,900 meters (9,514ft). There you can find the Paramo de Ocetá. In seventh place is Salamina, Caldas. It’s a two-hour drive from Manizales and known as the City of Light because all the artists who were born there. The last town is Villa de Leyva, located in Boyacá. It’s a very famous town because it’s very close to Bogotá (170Km) and has one of the largest plazas in South America.
