Denizli (Ancient Greek: Αττούδα) is an industrial city in the southwestern part of Turkey and the eastern end of the alluvial valley formed by the river Büyük Menderes, where the plain reaches an elevation of about three hundred and fifty metres (1,148 ft). Denizli is located in the country's Aegean Region.
The city has a population of about 646,278 (2018 census). This is a jump from 389,000 in 2007, due to the merger of 13 municipalities and 10 villages when the area under Denizli Municipality jurisdiction increased almost fivefold and the population around 50 percent. Denizli (Municipality) is the capital city of Denizli Province.
Denizli has seen economic development in the last few decades, mostly due to textile production and exports.
Denizli also attracts visitors to the nearby mineral-coated hillside hot spring of Pamukkale, and with red color thermal water spa hotels Karahayıt, just 5 kilometres (3 miles) north of Pamukkale. Recently, Denizli became a major domestic tourism destination due to the various types of thermal waters in Sarayköy, Central/Denizli (where Karahayıt and Pamukkale towns are located), Akköy (Gölemezli), Buldan (Yenicekent), and Çardak districts.

We travelled to one of the most scenic places in Turkey: Pamukkale (Denizli Turkiye)!!!
This place literally translates to “Cotton castle” and offers a stunningly unique landscape with Thermal travertines and historical Roman architecture – Hierapolis, one of the most notable ruined cities in Pamukkale It is located within the Denizli Province, in the River Menderes valley to the south-west of Turkey.
The Legend of Pamukkale
Like every mysterious place in the world, Pamukkale has a strong legend that makes this place even more appealing. People believe that back in the hay day, there was a Turkish young girl that no one wanted to marry because she was ugly. Depressed, the girl tried to commit suicide throwing herself off the mineral travertine. She fell into a natural pool and survived the fall. The water in the pool turned her into a beautiful girl who caught the attention of the Turkish lord, Denizli, while he was passing by the spiritual site. He fell in love with the girl and decided to marry her. That is why people nowadays believe that in addition to the health benefits, the rocks in Pamukkale can make you more beautiful.
Up until the 1980s, Pamukkale was exclusively a local destination in Turkey because of not many people outside of the country knew the benefits of the water. But then Turkish people decided to represent and develop Pamukkale as a spa center. Motels and resorts were raised and the land became clear, the road up the slope was converted into pools, and visitors were allowed in them to walk, play, splash and even soak.
We highly recommend you to visit the white cliffs early morning - it’s very hot during the day in summer. Also don’t forget to grab a big bottle of water (or 2), hat and sunscreen lotion. You can buy them inside but it’s more than twice the price.
This unique natural site embraces the ancient Roman city called Hierapolis which has the largest known graveyard of the antiquity that gives this site another unique character. Hierapolis, World Heritage site since 1988 with Pamukkale, means sacred city.
The historical artifacts found in the excavations are on display at the Hierapolis Ruins. Tripolis Antique City in Buldan Country, Colossea Antique City in Honaz Country, Tabea Antique City in Kale Country, Apollonia and Herakleia Salbace antique cities in Tavas Country are other important antique settlements located around Hierapolis.
the Antique Pool and Cleopatra’s Pool. One might find it interesting to know that the shape of the present day Antique Pool has been formed due to an earthquake in the 7th century A. D. The marble portico with an ionic arrangement fell into the pool during the earthquake and remains like that till today.
A bath in Cleopatra’s Pool has always been known to possess healing properties. It is actually a thermal pool where the water temperature ranges from 36 to 57 degree Celsius. The pool water is rich in substances like bicarbonates, sulphates, iron and carbon dioxide. As can be gathered, the water of the spring is suitable for taking baths and drinking, and can be found to be beneficial.

Kaklik Cave / Kaklık Mağarası in Denizli, Turkey, 10/16/2013
Kaklik Cave (Kaklık Mağarası) is one of the lesser known places among visitors in Denizli region. Kaklik Cave is usually referred as the Underground Pamukkale and it's easy to understand why. Kaklik Cave has the same travertine structure as Pamukkale. The difference, however, it's smaller in size and it's inside a cave. The cave came to light after the collapse of its roof. After opening to tourists in 2002, Kaklik Cave started to earn visitor traction.
The water that comes out in the cave contains sulphur and high amount of sodium bicarbonate. This water is used for health purposes as well as agricultural irrigation in the area. Because the water contains sulphur, there's a smell in the cave which explains the name that locals gave for this location, Kokarhamam Pinari (which can be translated as Smelling Bath Foundation).
Kaklik Cave is 65 meters long in northwest-southeast direction and 40 meters long in northeast-southwest direction. The entrance, which is shaped as a circle is 13 to 11 meters wide. The deepest point of the cave is 14 meters from the entrance point and the total length of the cave is about 190 meters.
Kaklik Cave is definitely a good alternative destination to visit while you are in Denizli.

Visit To Colossae
A city of Phrygia on the Lycus River (modern-day Turkey),
Colossae was on the great highway traversing the country
from Ephesus to the Euphrates valley, 13 miles from Hierapolis
and 10 from Laodicea. Its history is chiefly associated with that of
these two cities. Early, according to both Herodotus and Xenophon,
it was a place of great importance. There Xerxes stopped 481 BC
(Herodotus vii.30) and Cyrus the Younger marched 401 BC.
From Colossians 2:1 it is not likely that Paul visited the place in person;
but its Christianization was due to the efforts of Epaphras and Timothy
(Colossians 1:1,7), and it was the home of Philemon and Epaphras.
That a church was established there early is evident from
Colossians 4:12,13; Revelation 1:11; 3:14. As the neighboring
cities, Hierapolis and Laodicea, increased in importance,
Colosse declined.
There were many Jews living there, and a chief article
of commerce, for which the place was renowned,
was the collossinus, a peculiar wool, probably of a purple color.
In religion the people were specially lax, worshipping angels.
It was this belief in angels which called forth Paul's epistle
(Colossians 2:18).
During the 7th and 8th centuries the place was overrun
by the Saracens; in the 12th century the church was
destroyed by the Turks and the city disappeared.

Review of the mountain hiking (trekking) routes in Turkey/Türkiye:
to Karadağ volcano, 2 271 m (7 450 ft) high,
and to /Mount Delikkaya Tepe, 2 806 m (9 200 ft) high.
As an ordinary city dweller, without training and light in one day, climb the mount Delikkaya Tepe, one of the peaks of the Western Taurus Mountains, as well as get to the Karadağ volcano.
Overview of the mountains that can be visited to the east of the resort Antalya. We consider the available ways to reach the peaks.
Description of the extinct Karadağ volcano and surrounding attractions.
Overview of the route from the start to the top of mount Delikkaya Tepe and the state of the hiking route with photos and videos.
