Jonathan Dickinson is the only state park in south Florida where visitors can hike to the top of an ancient sand dune. The dune stands 86 feet above sea level, the highest natural point south of Lake Okeechobee. Hobe Mountain was once submerged in the Atlantic Ocean and as sea levels rose and fell the mountain was formed by high winds and the crashing of ocean waves.
Hobe Mountain is part of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge, a series of dunes and hills which parallel the Southeastern Florida coastline. The hills found in the eastern portion of the park adjacent to US Highway 1 are some of the only hills found in the area and many of the plants and animals which grow upon them are unique to the desert like conditions of the dunes. The plant community which occupies these sand dunes, the Sand Pine Scrub, is a disappearing habitat which is home to plants and animals found nowhere else in the world. Many of these species are endangered and some are specific only to Jonathan Dickinson State Park and Florida. The Florida Scrub-Jay and Florida Scrub lizard are examples of species endemic to the Florida Sand Pine Scrub. Plant species such as the Florida Dancing Lady Orchid which is also found only in the park.
Park visitors can climb Hobe Mountain by way of a boardwalk leading you through the Florida Sand Pine Scrub and up to Hobe Mountain Observation Tower which rises an additional 27 feet from the mountain. The observation tower allows for optimal viewing of the entire expanse of the park, Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

Hobe Sound Beach is a public access beach on Jupiter Island. There is parking, restrooms, picnic tables, showers to wash off the sand and a lifeguard station. There is a beach cam to check conditions at this beach. A family spot with full beach amenities including showers and picnic area.
Jonathan Dickinson State Park - Hobe Sound, Florida (Park Tour)
Jonathan Dickinson State Park is located in Hobe Sound, Florida just a short distance from West Palm Beach. This 10,500 acre park features a number of activities including hiking, mountain biking, camping, boating, swimming and more.
It costs $6 per vehicle to entire the park (up to 8 people) and campsites are available for rent for $26 per night.

Before this, we actually went to a place called Seabranch. it was nice, but we were attacked by a giant hord of mosquitos and a giant spider made its web in the middle of the damn trail. that's when we had enough and went to the Hobe Sound Nature Center instead. we attempted to walk their trails but once again we were attacked by more mosquitos. haha guess they like blood that's from out of state. then we checked out their building with all the animals and we headed over to the river.

Blowing Rocks Preserve- Jupiter Island, Hobe Sound, Florida
Blowing Rocks Preserve is located in beautiful Jupiter Island in the Hobe Sound area, along the East Coast of Florida. This barrier island sanctuary is a most see if you are visiting the Jupiter area.
Blowing Rocks Preserve is home to a pristine stretch of beach that is absolutely stunning and you will encounter a number of endangered plants and animals that call this special place home, including rare loggerhead, green and leatherback sea turtles.
The preserve was named for its rocky Anastasia limestone shoreline and is the largest along the East Coast of the Atlantic Ocean. During extreme high tides and after winter storms, seas break against the rocks and force a magniture of ocean water up and thru the numerous holes along the limestone formation, but in this episode we took our Average Adventure during the end of a low tide so we could explore the underneath sections of Blowing Rocks Preserve.

Scrub Trail ???????? | 4K | Virtual Hike | Hobe Sound, Florida | Nature | FPV
This hike consists of two very short trails in a very beautiful setting. Scrub trail is 0.3 miles (0.48 km) long and meanders through the Atlantic Coastal Ridge's endangered sand pine scrub habitat. There is significant (for Florida) elevation change as you traverse towards the Indian River Lagoon. Hammock trail is only about 0.1 miles ( 0.16 km) long. This trail is a change in scenery as it is a Sabal palm (a.k.a. Sabal palmetto or Cabbage palm) hammock habitat. Hammock trail terminates at a beach on the Indian River Lagoon.
Both trails are part of Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, which is a coastal refuge bisected by the Indian River Lagoon into two separate tracts of land totaling over 1000 acres. The 735 acre Jupiter Island tract provides some of the most productive sea turtle nesting habitat in the United States, and the 300 acre sand pine scrub mainland tract is valued because more than 90 percent of this community type has been lost to development in Florida. Sand pine scrub habitat is restricted only to Florida and an adjacent county in Alabama.
