Exploring Hitchin Hertfordshire | Best Things to Do in this market town
Welcome to Victoria’s Media and today I am Exploring Hitchin is a market town in the North Hertfordshire. This was a little walk through Hitchin market to st. Marys church but unfortunately church was closed at that moment. But still you can enjoy the walk through the market.
Hitchin is a beautiful historic market town based in North Hertfordshire. The earliest reference to the town dates back to the 7th Century although the first modern reference to the name of ‘Hitchin’ was made as recently as the 17th century.
The town is renowned for St Mary’s Church, the largest parish church in Hertfordshire and one whose tower dates back to 1190. It is linked with the 8th century king of Mercia King Offa and it has been suggested that he founded a church on the same site.
Boosted by the wool trade along the nearby Icknield Way the prosperity of the town flourished in the 17th century and it became a staging post for those travelling to and from London.

Hitchin Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Hertfordshire, and around 30 miles north of central London, is the town of Hitchin.
The first recorded reference of a settlement at Hitchin dates back to the 7th century where it was mentioned in a document alluding to the central place of the Hicce tribe, from which the town's name is believed to have originated.
At the heart of the town is the medieval St Mary's Church, featuring a 12th century tower, while the rest is mostly 14th and 15th centuries. The church is Grade I listed, and is the largest parish church in Hertfordshire.
Hitchin experienced growth due to the wool industry. Its geographical location near the ancient trackway known as the Icknield Way aided in its early development. From the 17th century it became a staging post for those travelling to and from London. Its distance of around 30 miles from the capital was approximate to one day's travel in the early era of the stagecoach. Thus, various timber-framed former coaching inns can be seen around the town.
In 1850 the railway arrived in Hitchin courtesy of the Great Northern Railway. Whilst this effectively brought an end to the coaching inn industry, it ushered in significant growth in the town. Today the station is situated on the East Coast Main Line from London King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley, and at a junction linking up with the Cambridge Line which runs, as the name suggests, from Hitchin to Cambridge.
Famous people from Hitchin include Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and journalist and TV presenter Jennie Bond.

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Best Places to visit, Borehampton, Hertfordshire, England
Borehamwood (also Boreham Wood) is a town in southern Hertfordshire, England, 12 miles (19 km) from Charing Cross. Borehamwood has a population of 31,074, and is within the London commuter belt. The town's film and TV studios are commonly known as Elstree Studios.
On the west side of Borehamwood is Elstree & Borehamwood railway station (TfL Zone 6) served by trains operated by Govia Thameslink Railway on the Thameslink route.
Metroline for London buses runs its number 107 service through the town from New Barnet to Edgware and back, whilst London Sovereign for London buses operates the number 292 bus service going into north-west London. The Uno (bus company) run a bus service that stops at Borehamwood starting from Hatfield to Stanmore and back, as well as a bus service that goes to Watford. Intalink operate a bus service to other parts of Hertfordshire.
The A1 road passes just to the east of the town, and the M25 motorway passes about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of it.

Hitchin is a market town in the North Hertfordshire District in Hertfordshire, England. The town flourished on the wool trade, and located near the Icknield Way and by the 17th century Hitchin was a staging post for coaches coming from London. By the middle of the 19th century the railway had arrived, and with it a new way of life for Hitchin. The corn exchange was built in the market place and within a short time Hitchin established itself as a major centre for grain trading.
The latter half of the 20th century has also brought great changes in communication to Hitchin. Motorways have shortened the journey time and brought Luton, a few miles away on the M1, and the A1 (M) even closer. By the close of the 20th century, Hitchin had become a satellite dormitory town for London. Hitchin also developed a fairly strong Sikh community based around the Walsworth area.
Hitchin railway station is on the Great Northern Line, to which the Cambridge Line connects just north of the station. There are direct connections to London, Stevenage, Peterborough, and Cambridge. Journeys to London and Cambridge both last approximately 30 minutes on the Express services. Stevenage is 5 minutes away and Peterborough is typically 45 minutes distance in journey-time. The A505, A600 and A602 roads intersect in Hitchin, which is about three miles (5 km) from the A1(M) motorway and about ten miles (16 km) from the M1 motorway. Hitchin is about 9 miles from Luton Airport with a direct bus service linking the two.
Hitchin hosts an annual Arts & Music Festival in July which in previous years included Rhythms of the World. Hitchin Festival includes picnics, concerts, theatre, ghost walks, art exhibitions, comedy club, talks, summer fetes and fireworks. Since 2014, Hitchin has hosted the yarn festival Festiwool, organised and run by members of Hitchin Stitchin.

Hotel Review: Premier Inn Hitchin Town Centre, Hertfordshire, England - August 2023
Hotel Review: Premier Inn Hitchin Town Centre, Hertfordshire, England - August 2023 - .
The Premier Inn in Hitchin Town Centre is centrally located within the town, near the shops, restaurants and bars. It is around a ten minute walk from the town's railway station and is next to a pay and display car park.
The hotel is a reasonably newly built development and is modern and smart, despite being a budget hotel chain. Two of us stayed at this hotel for two nights on a room only basis, which cost £129. This is a very decent price for the area.
The room was a typical Premier Inn room with a good king-sized bed, desk / dressing table, comfy chair, chaise lounge, open wardrobe, coat hooks on the wall, air-conditioning, hair dryer, full length mirror, storage draw, desk lamp, ample plug sockets, Samsung TV, tea and coffee making facilities. The view was to an internal courtyard / car park behind the hotel.
The bathroom was again a typical Premier Inn bathroom with a bath with a shower over it and a shower curtain, sink, toilet and plenty of storage space for toileteries.
The hotel is overall decent, but there is a MAJOR ISSUE at this hotel in that the room keys simply do not work. During the two days that we were there the keys failed multiple times and this became a real inconvenience. This was also the case for other guests and people were constantly at reception having their keys reset.
One other negative was that the hotel was quite noisy with very creaky floorboards, which for a new build is very disappointing.
The staff were all very nice though, and I would give this hotel another chance in future.

England | Road trip to Hitchin Lavender and Birbury Trout Farm

Oh how I miss my roadtrips. This video shows the highlights of our summer roadtrip in 2017. We started our journey from Sheffield to Hitchin Lavender Farm, Cotswold and Aberystwyth. Unfortunately, I only recorded some random clips at the Hitchin Lavender Farm and Birbury Trout Farm.
These two places are recommended to go! Either with your friends or family. SubhanAllah it's a beautiful place to visit in the peak time of summer. At Hitchin Lavender Farm, you need to pay £5 for which they provide a paper bag and a pair of scissors. You can pluck your own lavender! And not to forget sunflowers too!
Birbury Trout Farm is located in the centre of the village of Birbury. The admission fee is also £5 per adult. We had our BBQ lunch at the farm. We didn't prepare at all for the BBQ but yeah everything is available at the gift shop (except for the Brahim's kuah sambal tumis! Haha).
On a side note, a road trip offers the chance for many possible conversations. Everything becomes a subject to talk about and who knows, along the way, you may even learn a thing or two about your friends that you didn’t know before.

Ever wondered where to see lavender fields? Looking for a peaceful place to take your family out? Hitchin Lavender Farm based in Hertfordshire is a perfect destination for an outdoor activity. No wonder Hitchin Lavender Farm is one of the most photographed lavender fields UK.
------ HOW TO GO TO HITCHIN LAVENDER FARM FROM LONDON ------
It is located 2 miles North of Hitchin in the village of Ickleford. Travelling from the A1M turn off at Junction 10 towards Stotfold. The A507 takes you towards Letchworth and Hitchin and within two miles you will see signs to Ickleford, follow these. When you enter the village the Hitchin Lavender Farm is immediately on your left.

------ BEST TIME TO VISIT HITCHIN LAVENDER ------
Early lavenders come into bloom from mid-June - which account for a third of the field - with the main body of the field coming in around mid-July. All flowering will be finished by mid-late August. The sunflowers are set to come into bloom around mid-July to August.
For Hitchin lavender fields opening times it is advisable to check website before going.
We visited early August and paid £6/pp. The ticket price includes lavender picking - a bagful of lavender buds to take home with you. There is a huge cafe with delicious snacks and the gift shop offers lots of goodies to take back like candles, essence, bath salts etc. I was surprised to see they allowed visitors to bring their own food and even eat in the picnic area outside the cafe. If you like the countryside and fancy doing something different then this place is well worth a visit. What a lovely way to spend couple of hours walking through the fields and picking your own as you walk.
