10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Swindon - Town Centre Panorama | England | UK - 4k 360°

Swindon is a large town in Wiltshire, South West England, lying between Bristol, 35 miles (56 kilometres) to the west, and Reading, the same distance to the east. The town is 71 miles (114 km) west of London. Swindon is a modern town surrounded by some of England’s finest countryside and famous attractions. Enriched with Victorian parks and gardens, museums including the award winning Steam Museum, and an art gallery.

Originally, Swindon was a small market town mentioned in the Domesday Book. This original settlement is now known as Old Town. Here you can take time to wander through its quiet courtyards and alleyways, stroll around the Town Gardens, or enjoy a vibrant mix of traditional shops, pubs, bars, and cafes. The arrival of the GWR in 1840 led to great expansion and the creation of the town as it is today.

Swindon is a thriving and diverse modern town that is full of hidden gems. Surrounded by wonderful countryside, Swindon is the ideal base for a weekend break.
If you love to shop 'til you drop, you will really love the Designer Outlet, the South West's most popular shopping outlet, housed in the lovingly restored railway works. And if culture is your bag, then STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway is right next door to the Designer Outlet, while the Old Town neighbourhood is great for independent shops and the fabulous Oink art gallery.

Where Swindon really punches above its weight is in the green and pleasant land category, with a simply amazing range of outdoor spaces, including Coate Water Country Park, Town Gardens and Lydiard Park. As befits such a diverse town, Swindon also boasts an enviable range of international restaurants - from Indian to Brazilian and all points in between.

Highworth Wiltshire England 2018

WILTSHIRE ENGLAND July, 2018. The attractive town of Highworth is just a short journey by bus from Swindon. There is a large selection of quaint shops to purchase gifts or food from.

Highworth Market Town In The Cotswolds.

Highworth is a market town and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, about 6 miles (10km) northeast of Swindon town centre. The 2011 Census recorded a population of 8,151. The town is notable for its Queen Anne and Georgian buildings, dating from its pre-eminence in the 18th century.

Highworth is on a hill in a strategic position above the Upper Thames Valley, and seems to have been occupied almost continuously for 4,000 years. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book as 'Wrde'. On John Speed's map of Wiltshire (1611), the name is spelt both Highwoth (for the hundred) and Hiworth (for the town itself). In 1206 it was granted a charter for its market, which is still held weekly. The origins and layout of Highworth are medieval.
Highworth was a Royalist stronghold in the English Civil War, but on 17 June 1645 Sir Thomas Fairfax captured it and Parliamentarian troops garrisoned it until October the next year. The occupation coincided with a severe outbreak of plague. Traders moved their business to Swindon, and Highworth market did not recover until the end of the 17th century. Highworth benefited from the economic boom in the Napoleonic Wars and Industrial Revolution, and many of the houses in the town centre date from this time. From 1894 to 1974 there was a Highworth Rural District but the town is now part of Swindon unitary authority. Highworth was once larger than neighbouring Swindon, when Highworth's population exceeded 12,000.
The Church of England parish church of St Michael (see below) is at the centre of the town, at the corner of the High Street and the A361 Swindon Road. The centre of the old town, with many fine Georgian and Queen Anne houses, has been a conservation area since 1976.
The Old Manor House in the High Street, dating from 1656, is a Grade II* listed building.

CORSHAM HISTORIC MARKET TOWN in Wiltshire, England

Corsham is a historic market town and civil parish in west Wiltshire, England. It is situated at the edge of the Cotswolds. The name Corsham is derives from Cosa’s hām. The ”ham” which refers to the Old English word for homestead, or village.

It has been suggested that the town had been known as Corsham Regis due to its reputed association with Anglo-Saxon Ethelred of Wessex and this name remains as that of one of the local primary school.

Corsham has provided the backdrop in numerous films and TV dramas including The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Larkrise to Candleford and The Remains of the Day

Swindon Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Wiltshire, and around 80 miles west of London, is the town of Swindon.

The town's history goes back several centuries. In Saxon times before the Norman Conquest, there was a small farming community in the area. By the 13th century it had become a small market town. Its population remained relatively small for several centuries. In the first Cenus of 1801 there were 1,198 residents recorded.

A number of factors contributed towards a major growth spurt in Swindon. The first being the opening of the Wiltshire and Berkshire Canal in 1810, and later the North Wiltshire Canal in 1819. Then in 1835 the railway arrived, with Swindon situated between London and Bristol on the Great Western Railway line. Under orders of Great Western's chief engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Swindon was to become the location of the Railway Works for GWR i.e. the centre for construction and maintenance.

As the station was situated over a mile away from the town in what is today referred to as Old Swindon, a railway village was constructed within easy commuting distance, with 300 houses completed by the mid 1860s. This was the beginning of what would become New Swindon. In 1900 Queen Victoria signed the charter granting Swindon Municipal Borough status, which in doing so, merged Old Swindon to the south, to New Swindon to the north. The walk begins in Old Swindon and crosses into New Swindon, demonstrating the stark contrast between the two.

During the Second World War, the Great Western Railway Works was repurposed for construction of military hardware including parts for guns, tanks and submarines. After the war, Swindon was designated as an overspill town with around 14,000 people from Blitz-damaged London moving in.

In the 1970s the M4 motorway opened, connecting Swindon to London to the east and South Wales to the West. Shortly after, the notorious Magic Roundabout was constructed. Consisting of five mini-roundabouts arranged in a circle, it has been voted the fourth scariest junction in Britain. Also in the '70s the Brunel Shopping Centre opened and Swindon's town centre was pedestrianised. Swindon's Great Western Railway Works closed in 1986.

Famous people from Swindon include Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues, Nick Hewer off The Apprentice and Billie Piper. Also the band XTC formed in Swindon in 1972.

Places to see in ( Ashford - UK )

Places to see in ( Ashford - UK )

Ashford is a town in the county of Kent, England. Ashford lies on the River Great Stour at the south edge of the North Downs, about 61 miles southeast of central London and 15.3 miles northwest of Folkestone by road. Ashford has been a market town since the 13th century, and a regular market continues to be held.

Ashford has been a communications hub and has stood at the centre of five railway lines since the 19th century. The arrival of the railways became a source of employment and contributed to the town's growth. With the opening of the international passenger station it is now a European communications centre, with new lines running between London and the Channel Tunnel (via High Speed 1). The M20 motorway also links Ashford to those two destinations for road traffic.

The town has been marked as a place for expansion since the 1960s and appeared on several Government plans for growth. Changes have included the County Square shopping centre, the redevelopment of the Templer Barracks at Repton Park, and the award-winning Ashford Designer Outlet. In the 1970s, a controversial ring road scheme and construction of the multi-storey Charter House building destroyed significant parts of the old town, though some areas were spared and preserved.

St Mary's Church in Ashford has been a local landmark since the 13th century, and expanded in the 15th. Today, the church functions in a dual role as a centre for worship and entertainment. Ashford has two grammar schools; the Norton Knatchbull School and Highworth Grammar School.

By road, Ashford is about 61 miles (98 km) southeast of central London, 20.9 kilometres (13.0 mi) southeast of Maidstone, and 15.3 miles (24.6 km) northwest of Folkestone. The town lies at the intersection of two valleys in Kent – the south edge of the North Downs and the valley of the River Stour, at the confluence of the Great Stour and East Stour rivers. This made it an ideal place for a settlement. The Borough of Ashford lies on the eastern edge of the ancient forest of Andredsweald or Anderida. This originally stretched as far west as Hampshire and formed the basis from which the Weald is formed.

St Mary's parish church lies in the town centre. Parts of it date from the 13th century, including a brass of the first rector, Robert de Derby. A Mk. IV tank built in Lincoln and used in World War I was presented to the town on 1 August 1919 to thank the townsfolk for their war efforts. It is situated in St Georges Square near the town centre.

H.S. Pledge & Sons Ltd built two flour mills in Ashford, and became an important employer in the town. The Corn Exchange, situated at the junction of Bank Street and Elwick Road, opened on 3 December 1861. Ashford's main library originally opened in 1966 on a war-damaged site on Church Road. The Ashford Green Corridor is a linear park alongside the two main rivers through the town, which is protected from development by lying on the main flood plain.

( Ashford - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Ashford . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ashford - UK
