The Roman Ruins at Baalbek, Lebanon [Amazing Places 4K]

Baalbek was a Phoenician city, probably named after the Phoenician god Baal, in Greek and Roman times it was also known as Heliopolis. Baalbec reached its height during Roman times, when between the 1st and 3rd centuries colossal temples dedicated to Jupiter, Bacchus and other deities were built on site. It is still a mystery how the largest stone blocks known from antiquity, weighing more than thousand tons, were moved to the temple locations.
Baalbec is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the finest examples of Imperial Roman architecture at its apogee.

Due to space limitations I will present you one district or another place here in the future.

Heliopolis
Heliopolis (مصر الجديدة) was a suburb outside Cairo, Egypt, which has since merged with Cairo as a district of the city and is one of the more affluent areas of Cairo.
The name refers to the nearby ancient Egyptian city of Heliopolis, which is now an archaeological site.
It was established in 1905 by the Heliopolis Oasis Company headed by the Belgian industrialist Édouard Empain and by Boghos Nubar, son of the Egyptian Prime Minister Nubar Pasha.
Baron Empain, a well-known amateur Egyptologist and prominent Belgian entrepreneur, arrived in Egypt in January 1904.
His intension was to rescue one of his Belgian wife's development projects: the construction of a railway line linking El-Matareya to Port Said.
His efforts culminated in 1907 with the building of the new town of Heliopolis, in the Sahara Desert ten kilometers from the center of Cairo.
The new city represented the first large-scale attempt to promote its own architecture, known now as the Heliopolis style.
It was designed as a city of luxury and leisure, with broad avenues and equipped with all conveniences and infrastructure:
water, drains, electricity, hotel facilities, such as the Heliopolis Palace Hotel and Heliopolis House, and recreational amenities including a golf course, racetrack and park.
After the 1952 revolution led by Nasser, it became home to much of Cairo's educated middle class.
As Cairo has expanded, the once large distance between Heliopolis and Cairo has vanished and it is now well inside the city.
Because of the large growth in population, the original gardens that filled the city have mostly been built over.
In contrast with its initial establishment as a quiet suburb, Heliopolis now is considered a main part of Cairo.
It is home to celebrities, football players, politicians and wealthy families.

Heliopolis - Nasr Road - Ring Road - El Hadara Axis - Old Cairo - Driving in Cairo, Egypt ????????

Hey folks, driving in Cairo is interesting to watch. It is never boring on the streets of Cairo. For more information subtitles in different languages are available. If you have suggestions or feedback just leave a comment, thank you.

I also permanently displayed the permitted maximum speed. I've heard a lot of complaints about Speeding Tickets. In this way I hope to protect you from possible Speeding tickets. In future videos I will continue this on main roads.

You have to watch out for walking people, taxis, toktok's and especially for (white) microbuses. Their behavior is unpredictable and it can lead to a disaster. Otherwise is driving in Cairo, Egypt a funny and enjoyable thing. Always wear your seat belt and keep to the speed limit.

Ring Road
There were three master plans for the urban development of Cairo, in 1956, 1970 and 1983.
In the third master plan was approved in 1984 under the government of Hosni Mubarak and in collaboration with France.
It appeared as a 73 km (45 mi) long beltway. It would connect the new 16 administrative regions of the city and would isolate them from the rural areas.
The total length of the ring road is about 105 km (65 mi) with more than 50% on desert land, 15% in urbanized area, and 35% on arable land.
The highway has eight lanes. The total budget for the project was 3 billion EGP (160 million Euro).

Old Cairo
The first mosque in Egypt and Africa is located in today's Old Cairo.
It was founded in AD 643 by the General Amr ibn el As.
Today's appearance no longer corresponds to the original building. The current mosque dates from 1796.
In the 18th century the mosque fell into disrepair.
The Mamluk leader Mūrad Bey Muḥammad had the remains demolished and in 1796 a new building was built in its place.
Since then, the mosque has only had six of the original seven rows of columns.
There is also a complex with many Coptic Orthodox churches.
Of the hanging churches, the Sergios and Bakchos Church (Abu Serga) or the St. George Monastery to name three.
There is also a Greek Orthodox Church (St. George's Church) or the Ben Esra Synagogue.
This place is easy to get to by subway. The stop of line M1 is called Mar Girgis

This is my drive from Cairo to Alexandria on Agriculture Road with side view. The route is 15 km shorter than the Desert Road, but this route takes an hour more with an ideal drive. The Agriculture Road is definitely worth seeing, but I recommend the Desert Road.

You have to watch out for walking people, taxis, toktok's and especially for (white) microbuses. Their behavior is unpredictable and it can lead to a disaster. Otherwise is driving in Cairo, Egypt a funny and enjoyable thing.

Basilique Notre Dame d'Heliopolis or “Our Lady of Heliopolis Co-Cathedral” or “Basilica of the Holy Virgin” (كنيسة البازيليك) is a Roman Catholic church building, located on El Ahram Square in the Heliopolis neighbourhood of Cairo.

A crypt within the cathedral houses the remains of its financer, Édouard Empain, and his family.
Baron Empain established Heliopolis in 1905.
The Basilica is dedicated for the Virgin Mary.

Welcome to a new tour. This time we start our trip in El Korba area in Heliopolis district, pass through Nasr City (Madinet Nasr) and end it in El Nozha district with additional side view. Since this ride took place in September 2020, the roads look different again after further modifications. Enjoy this ride.

Heliopolis
Heliopolis, lit. New Egypt was a suburb outside Cairo, Egypt, which has since merged with Cairo as a district of the city and is one of the more affluent areas of Cairo. It was established in 1905 by the Heliopolis Oasis Company headed by the Belgian industrialist Baron Empain and by Boghos Nubar, son of the Egyptian Prime Minister Nubar Pasha. It is the location of the Cairo International Airport. The population of Heliopolis is estimated at some 142,968 individuals (2016).

Baron Empain, a well-known amateur Egyptologist and prominent Belgian entrepreneur, arrived in Egypt in January 1904, intending to rescue one of his Belgian wife's development projects: the construction of a railway line linking Al-Matariyyah to Port Said. Despite losing the railway contract to the British, Empain stayed on in Egypt.

Shobra
Shobra is one of the largest districts of Cairo, Egypt and it is administratively divided into three areas: Shobra, Rod El Farag, and El Sahel.

Although Shobra has been immensely large for the last few decades, the name originally derives from the Coptic word ϭⲱⲡⲣⲟ Šopro, which means a small village or field, as the area is well known for its rich fields that neighbour the Nile River. In Egypt, there are many neighborhoods, towns and villages that bear the name of Shobra, for example, the administrative region of Shobra that is within the large district of Shobra, both of which are not to be confused with one of Qalyubia's industrial suburbs, Shobra el Kheima.

During the rule of Muhammad Ali of Egypt, Shubra was developed into a residential area after he built himself a palace in the area and extended Shubra street in 1808.

Despite losing the railway contract to the British, Empain stayed on in Egypt.

In 1905, Empain established the Cairo Electric Railways and Heliopolis Oases Company, which bought a large stretch of desert some distance to the northeast of Cairo at a low price from the British occupation government. His efforts culminated in 1907 with the building of the new town of Heliopolis, in the Sahara desert ten kilometers from the center of Cairo. In contrast with its initial establishment as a quiet suburb, Heliopolis now is considered a main part of Cairo. It is home to celebrities, football players, politicians and wealthy families. The numbers of residents have doubled several times since 1922. A tram system used to serve Heliopolis and parts of the surrounding area but it has been almost entirely closed, and partly removed, in 2015. Heliopolis was already integrated into the existing underground system to link it to other pivotal residential areas all around Cairo. Several major areas of Heliopolis such as El-Ahram street, El-Marghany street and Fair Zone are already formal destinations in the newly developed Metro stations belonging to Line 3, with a plan to extend the line to include other stations such as Nozha and Cairo International Airport. The Heliopolis/Airport extensions of Line 3 are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

Cairo
Cairo is the capital and largest city of Egypt. Cairo metropolitan area, with a population of 21.3 million, is the largest in Africa, in the Arab world, and the 6th-largest in the world. Cairo is associated with ancient Egypt, as the famous Giza pyramid complex and the ancient city of Memphis are located in its geographical area. Located near the Nile Delta, Cairo was founded in 969 AD by the Fatimid dynasty, but the land composing the present-day city was the site of ancient national capitals whose remnants remain visible in parts of Old Cairo. Cairo has long been a centre of the region's political and cultural life, and is titled the city of a thousand minarets for its preponderance of Islamic architecture. Cairo is considered a World City with a Beta + classification according to GaWC.

With a population of over 9 million spread over 3,085 km², Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. An additional 9.5 million inhabitants live in close proximity to the city. Cairo, like many other megacities, suffers from high levels of pollution and traffic. The Cairo Metro is one of the only two metro systems in Africa (the other being in Algiers, Algeria), and ranks amongst the fifteen busiest in the world, with over 1 billion annual passenger rides. The economy of Cairo was ranked first in the Middle East in 2005, and 43rd globally on Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index.

Shobra el Kheima
Shubra El Kheima, is the fourth-largest city in Egypt after Cairo, Giza and Alexandria. It is located in the Qalyubia Governorate along the northern edge of the Cairo Governorate. It forms part of the Greater Cairo agglomeration.

Shubra El Kheima hosts the Palace of Mohamed Ali Pasha, the founder of modern Egypt. He chose an isolated palace or an official residence away from the Citadel in the district called Shubra, the construction of the palace began in 1808 and it was completed in 1821. The Palace of Mohammad Ali or Shubra Palace is distinguished by its style of decoration that mixes between the Islamic style of decoration and the European one.

Cairo goes crazy after the 4-0 win over Algeria!

Just a small view of the craziness of the Egyptian football fans after the 4-0 defeat tonight (28/01/10) of Algeria in the semi-final of the African cup of Nations...thereby getting revenge on their arch enemies who lost them a place in the World Cup. This was taken just after midnight and it's the same all over Cairo. The whole population is in the streets celebrating. Car horns, trumpets, drums, fireworks, cheering, singing....what an atmosphere!

I was returning from the Haram district in Giza to Heliopolis, Cairo. Because you liked the videos with a Ring Road part, I decided to show you more than 50km of the road. I would like to mention that I have filmed this trip in September 2019. That is why some modification hasn't been done maybe. This time with side view.

You have to watch out for walking people, taxis, toktok's and especially for (white) microbuses. Their behavior is unpredictable and it can lead to a disaster. Otherwise is driving in Cairo, Egypt a funny and enjoyable thing.
