Glastonbury Festival 2022 | Our Epic Site Exploration, Volunteering and More
In 2022, Glastonbury Festival returned to Worthy Farm after a 3 year break due to the coronavirus pandemic. In this video we will show you as much of the site as possible, what we got up to, how we managed to get to the festival and everything else inbetween.
We start with a short look back at the last few years and how we made it to this point in Glastonbury history. In 2020 the festival did not take place, and we all took part in Glasthomebury in various ways, from camping in the garden to mini indoor festivals. In 2021, we watched live from Worthy Farm on the global livestream, and went camping on the site for Worthy Pastures, a truly unique experience.
In 2022, we are volunteering on site for Oxfam. Our usual method of entry via working at the silent disco was not to be this year, so we signed up to work for our ticket. This was x3 shifts checking people in and out of the site. In our time off we walked an insane amount around the festival to try and capture as much as possible.
There was always going to be stuff that got missed due to place and time, and being exhausted! However, this video is showing an insight into areas you may not usually see, or have been too, there were certainly new places for us!
From the Pyramid Stage, to the new look Silver Hayes, the Other Stage, the return of the spider at Arcadia, The Park, Glastonbury-on-Sea, Strummerville, the Stone Circle, the night time delights of the SE Corner, West Holts, Theatre and Circus, Williams Green and way more!
Focusing in on each area this video is giving a snapshot of some of the stages, things we saw and what each section of the site looks like.

What to do in Glastonbury England | Travel Guide
Glastonbury, England is probably most famous for its music festival, but it’s much more than that. It is a town steeped in myths, legends and history. This travel guide will provide you with an epic itinerary during your visit.
Glastonbury is Known as the Isle of Avalon — a mythical place symbolizing purity, abundance and magic.
Here are some must do's and see's!
1. Glastonbury Millennium trail:
-This circular walking Trail begins at the Town Hall. It will guide you through Glastonbury’s city center in about an hour.
-I recommend taking the extra time to see the trails “optional detours” so you don’t miss any of Glastonbury’s major sites.
2. Glastonbury Way:
If you really feel like walking, stroll down the 7-mile long Glastonbury Way. You can download a free app for this self- guided tour which includes places of pilgrimage, all the notable parts of Glastonbury’s countryside and key parts of the town center.
3. The Glastonbury Abbey
-Legend claims that Joseph of Arimathea was the Abbeys first founder — and here you can see the sacred Glastonbury Thorn, just like the one created by Joseph himself on nearby Wyrral Hill.
-It is also believed that King Arthur, along with his wife Guinevere, are buried in the Abbey. Their tombs were discovered by the monks in 1191. After the dissolution of the monasteries, the caskets were lost, but you can visit the spot of Arthur’s final resting place.
-What remains now are remnants of the Lady Chapel, built in 1186 and ruins of the Abbey church.
4. The Glastonbury Tor:
-An icon of the Isle of Avalon — and one you can’t miss.
The hill stands over 520 feet above sea level and has been a pilgrimage site for centuries.
-Adding to the mysticism of the site is the remaining 14th century tower of the former St. Michael's church that once rested at the top.
-At the top on a clear day, you have extensive views of the Somerset Levels, Dorset, Wiltshire and Wales.
Near the base of the Tor, there are two different springs believed to have healing properties. Many find it supernatural that they are but a few feet of each other.
5. The Chalice Well:
- Known as the red spring because the water flowing from the well has a high iron content, giving it a reddish hue.
-The Chalice wells and Gardens is a peaceful place for a walk among the greenery and although there is an entrance fee to enter, you can enjoy the waters of the red spring for free.
6. White Spring:
-On the outside, there is a water feature and spigot where you can bottle up the healing waters, but the best way to experience the atmosphere is to take the steps down into the sanctuary which is lit only by candles.
-Many people worship naked in the pools of the well house.
-No video or photos are allowed inside to respect the worshiper’s sacred space.
-It’s free to get in, but opening hours at the White spring are sporadic, so be sure to check before you visit.
7. Unique shops:
-A great way to delve into Glastonbury’s ambience. There’s nothing you won’t find — books, crystals, incense, apothecaries selling ingredients to make potions for witchcraft and more!
8. St. Margaret’s Chapel and Royal Magdalene Almshouses:
-Dating back to the year 1250, it was first constructed as a pilgrims hospital and eventually became a place for aging parishioners until the 1950s.
-As an added bonus there is no entrance fee
9. The George and Pilgrims Hotel:
-Built in the 1400s, it’s a grade I listed building
-Even if you don’t stay at the hotel, you can enjoy the facade and go inside to have a drink or food at the pub.
10. Knights Fish and chips:
- It's been run by the same family since 1909 — well over 100 years! (Not an ad, the food was just great!)
11. The Glastonbury Mural trail:
This initiative was created with the goal of keeping the town colorful.
Now there are over 50 murals for residents and visitors to enjoy.
A map to the mural trail, along with other guides can be found at the Glastonbury Information Center on Magdalene street. They are open 7 days a week from 10am to 3pm.

Steeped in Arthurian legend and history, Glastonbury, Somerset is the UK's centre of alternative and new age culture and is intricately tied up with the legend of King Arthur. The town is also well known for the Glastonbury Festival - established in 1970, ‘Glasto’ as it’s affectingly known, is a 5-day festival celebrating the best music, arts and culture from around the world. We start our circular walk at Glastonbury Market Cross and end up back at the entrance to Glastonbury Abbey.
Explore the independent spiritual shops and cafes and soak up Glastonbury's history. Why is Glastonbury so special? Glastonbury is famous for its mix of English charm, alternative culture and spiritual history - including Glastonbury Tor, the holy Chalice Well and Glastonbury Abbey which is one of the earliest Christian sites in England, and was once said to be King Arthur's burial place.
From London, Glastonbury is around a 3 hour 30 minute journey. You’ll need to catch a train to Bristol, followed by a bus to the West Country town.

Glastonbury is a town and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated at a dry point on the low-lying Somerset Levels, 23 miles south of Bristol. The town of Glastonbury is in the Mendip district. Glastonbury is less than 1 mile (2 km) across the River Brue from Street, which is now larger than Glastonbury.
Evidence from timber trackways such as the Sweet Track show that the town has been inhabited since Neolithic times. Glastonbury Lake Village was an Iron Age village, close to the old course of the River Brue and Sharpham Park approximately 2 miles (3 km) west of Glastonbury, that dates back to the Bronze Age. Centwine was the first Saxon patron of Glastonbury Abbey, which dominated the town for the next 700 years. One of the most important abbeys in England, it was the site of Edmund Ironside's coronation as King of England in 1016. Many of the oldest surviving buildings in the town, including the Tribunal, George Hotel and Pilgrims' Inn and the Somerset Rural Life Museum, which is based in an old tithe barn, are associated with the abbey. The Church of St John the Baptist dates from the 15th century.
The town became a centre for commerce, which led to the construction of the market cross, Glastonbury Canal and the Glastonbury and Street railway station, the largest station on the original Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway. The Brue Valley Living Landscape is a conservation project managed by the Somerset Wildlife Trust and nearby is the Ham Wall National Nature Reserve.
Glastonbury has been described as a New Age community which attracts people with New Age and Neopagan beliefs, and is notable for myths and legends often related to Glastonbury Tor, concerning Joseph of Arimathea, the Holy Grail and King Arthur. Joseph is said to have arrived in Glastonbury and stuck his staff into the ground, when it flowered miraculously into the Glastonbury Thorn. The presence of a landscape zodiac around the town has been suggested but no evidence has been discovered. The Glastonbury Festival, held in the nearby village of Pilton, takes its name from the town.
The Tribunal was a medieval merchant's house, used as the Abbey courthouse and, during the Monmouth Rebellion trials, by Judge Jeffreys. The octagonal Market Cross was built in 1846 by Benjamin Ferrey. The George Hotel and Pilgrims' Inn was built in the late 15th century to accommodate visitors to Glastonbury Abbey.
The Somerset Rural Life Museum is a museum of the social and agricultural history of Somerset, housed in buildings surrounding a 14th-century barn once belonging to Glastonbury Abbey. The Chalice Well is a holy well at the foot of the Tor, covered by a wooden well-cover with wrought-iron decoration made in 1919.
Just a short distance from the Chalice Well site, across a road known as Well House Lane, can be found the White Spring, where a temple has been created in the 21st century. The building now used as the White Spring Temple was originally a Victorian-built well house, erected by the local water board in 1872.
The Glastonbury Canal ran just over 14 miles (23 km) through two locks from Glastonbury to Highbridge where it entered the Bristol Channel in the early 19th century. The nearest railway station is at Castle Cary but there is no direct bus route linking it to Glastonbury. There are convenient bus connections between Glastonbury and the railway stations at Bristol Temple Meads (over an hour travelling time) and at Taunton. The main road in the town is the A39 which passes through Glastonbury from Wells connecting the town with Street and the M5 motorway.

Glastonbury is a town and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated at a dry point on the low-lying Somerset Levels, 23 miles south of Bristol.
Glastonbury has been described as having a New Age community, and possibly being where New Age beliefs originated at the turn of the twentieth century when a feminine landscape was created where Christianity had ‘first touched Britain’, which attracts people with New Age and Neopagan beliefs, and is notable for myths and legends often related to Glastonbury Tor, concerning Joseph of Arimathea, the Holy Grail and King Arthur. Joseph is said to have arrived in Glastonbury and stuck his staff into the ground, when it flowered miraculously into the Glastonbury Thorn.
The Glastonbury Festival, held in the nearby village of Pilton, takes its name from the town. Glastonbury Festival is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Pilton, Somerset, England. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. The festival receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. Glastonbury is attended by around 200,000 people, requiring extensive infrastructure in terms of security, transport, water, and electricity supply. The majority of staff are volunteers, helping the festival to raise millions of pounds for charity organisations.
Regarded as a major event in British culture, the festival is inspired by the ethos of the hippie, counterculture, and free festival movements. It retains vestiges of these traditions, such as the Green Fields area, which includes sections known as the Green Futures and Healing Field.
Many of the oldest surviving buildings in the town, including the Tribunal, George Hotel and Pilgrims' Inn and the Somerset Rural Life Museum, which is based at the site of a 14th century abbey manor barn, often referred to as a tithe barn, are associated with Glastonbury abbey.
Glastonbury Abbey was a monastery in Glastonbury, Somerset, England. Its ruins, a grade I listed building and scheduled ancient monument, are open as a visitor attraction. The abbey was founded in the 7th century and enlarged in the 10th. It was destroyed by a major fire in 1184, but subsequently rebuilt and by the 14th century was one of the richest and most powerful monasteries in England.
From at least the 12th century the Glastonbury area has been associated with the legend of King Arthur, a connection promoted by medieval monks who asserted that Glastonbury was Avalon.
The Tribunal in Glastonbury, Somerset, England, was built in the 15th century as a merchant's house. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building. The history of the building is not well documented, although the majority of the present stone house was constructed in the 15th century on the site of a 12th-century wooden building. The current front wall was added in the 16th century. It has been used as a merchant's house and possibly a shop and school. It was thought that it was the venue for court proceedings, hence the title Tribunal, however there is no evidence this ever occurred. One of the ground floor rooms still has the window and ceiling panels from the Elizabethan era.

History of Glastonbury, England. Glastonbury is a town close to the town of Avebury, with its stone circle, and the famous stone circle of stonehenge. It is said to have been visited by Joseph of Arimethia, with young Jesus Christ, and then again after Jesus died. Weary All Hill is said to be where Joseph rested, and plunged his staff into the ground. The staff, made of the thorn tree from which Jesus's crown of thorns was made, took root and several of these Holy Thorn trees grow here today.

I have been wanting to take an early morning walk in Glastonbury for a while and here I am at last. The morning was very cold, but such a beautiful light for a rainy mid-November! This town is wrapped of history and legends and is revered as a holy place by many to this day. It is considered the cradle of Christianity in England and its Abbey is thought to have been the burial place of Joseph of Arimathea, The Virgin Mary, Saint Patrick and King Arthur. Yet it's home to many neo-pagan believers and you won't find a single, boring high street shop in its town centre. Definitely worth a visit if you are in this part of the UK.

I take you around Glastonbury High Street in Somerset, one of the most magical places in England, and show you some of my favourite shops, and a few tips for visitors.
Yeah, my hair annoys me in this video too. Oh my goodness it took so long to get this video up. I was editing this when I got home that same day when suddenly I get really badly ill, and oh! It lingered and lingered. I couldn't breathe to begin with let alone edit. Few weeks later and only a slight cough remains so I can do the voice overs and get back to it.
