Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, es conocida como “El corralito de piedra”, “La heroica” y “La fantástica”.
Cartagena es una de las ciudades más visitadas de Colombia y en ella se mezcla la arquitectura de la época de la colonización española con la modernidad de sus grandes y nuevos edificios.
En la posición No. 10 tenemos las playas de Cartagena.
Averigua bien los precios actuales antes de contratar este alquiler, pues muchas veces los vendedores locales se aprovechan de los turistas y les cargan sobrecostos. Además, debes ser paciente, pues en Cartagena los vendedores son muy insistentes y debes estar preparado para decir NO.
Al ir a la playa te recomiendo 3 cosas que no debes olvidar: 1) Cuida bien tus pertenencias. Nunca las dejes solas; 2) Ten cuidado con los vendedores de ostras. Te ofrecen una, supuestamente como prueba, y luego te la cobran a precios astronómicos y 3) Ten cuidado con las masajistas. Ellas empiezan a tocar tu cuerpo, te dicen que solo es una prueba, y luego te cobran cifras muy altas.
En la posición No. 9 nos encontramos con el Cerro de la Popa. Al llegar a Cartagena verás una montaña con una iglesia en la cima. Será muy fácil divisarla desde varios puntos de la ciudad.
El Convento de la Popa es una iglesia de la época de la colonia, construido por los Agustinos Recoletos.
La vista de Cartagena desde la Popa es espectacular y el precio de la entrada al convento es de $13.000 colombianos (Aproximadamente 3 dólares).
En la posición No. 8 tenemos FRITOMAR. Una joya que no todos conocen en Cartagena.
Se llama Fritomar y es un pequeño restaurante donde encontrarás las mayores delicias de la gastronomía costeña: empanadas, carimañolas, arepa ‘e huevo, quibbe, deditos de queso, etc.
En la posición No. 7 nos encontramos la Bahía de Castillogrande.
Castillogrande es el barrio residencial más costoso de Cartagena. En el encontrarás hermosas casas, así como modernos edificios frente a la bahía.
El lugar es excelente para hacer deportes en la madrugada o al atardecer.
En la posición No. 6 tenemos el restaurante bar El Arsenal: The Rum Box.
Cuando estaba trabajando en mi lista para el top 10 observé que este bar es el más destacado según la plataforma TripAdvisor y decidí visitarlo.
El lugar tiene una bonita atmósfera y lo que más me gustó fue la atención.
En la posición No. 5 nos encontramos con el barrio Getsemaní.
Getsemaní es el barrio más divertido y colorido de Cartagena. Hace algunos años este era un barrio común y corriente de la ciudad, pero, últimamente, es el barrio más icónico y visitado.
Sus calles están llenas de colores, imágenes, arte callejero y grafitis y, en él, podrás encontrar muchos restaurantes, bares y sobre todo hostales para turistas extranjeros.
En la posición No. 4 tenemos al bar discoteca ALQUIMICO.
No es por suerte que este bar está en la lista de los 50 mejores bares del mundo y eso ya es un aspecto interesante por resaltar.
Su azotea es un lugar muy interesante y allí tendrás la oportunidad de conocer gente de todas partes del mundo, disfrutando cocteles a muy buen precio y comida de buena calidad.
En la posición No. 3 nos encontramos con las Islas del Rosario y Barú.
Estas playas paradisiacas están ubicadas a pocos minutos de Cartagena.
Las Islas del Rosario son un archipiélago formado por 28 islas. Para llegar a las islas, deberás hacerlo en lancha o barco desde el muelle turístico de Cartagena. El trayecto dependerá de la embarcación en la que viajes.
En la posición No. 2 tenemos el Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas.
Construido en 1657, durante la época colonial española, es uno de los fuertes más importantes de dicha época.
No te pierdas de este lugar en tu visita a Cartagena. Cabe anotar que el precio de la entrada es de 20.000 pesos colombianos. (Aproximadamente 4 USD). Dentro del castillo podrás contratar visitas guidas en español o inglés.
Y…En la posición No. 1 nos encontramos con el atractivo turístico principal de Cartagena: La ciudad amurallada.
El centro de Cartagena está rodeado por unas hermosas murallas que se construyeron para defenderla del constante asedio de pitaras y corsarios.
En la ciudad amurallada encontrarás los mejores restaurantes y hoteles de la ciudad. En un lugar lleno de gente, en el que hay plazas, parques, comercio y muchos museos para visitar.

6 lugares increíbles que solo existen en Colombia
Uno de mis mayores sueños siempre había sido conocer el hermoso país de Colombia, veía fotos y videos en internet y me parecía un lugar tan mágico que me hacía soñar cada noche con pisar esas bellas tierras. Hasta que el día llegó y por fin pude respirar su aire tan puro gracias a lo verde que lo rodea, su impactante color ladrillo me enamoró a primera vista y ahora quiero compartirles algunos lugares que conocí, espero que como a mi, los enamoren y quieran viajar para vivir esta increíble experiencia.
6.- Cascada la Chorrera
Un sitio donde la magia, el verde eterno de la selva y la maravillosa vista regalan al mundo una experiencia única. A 42 kilómetros de Bogotá, se encuentra la Chorrera, la cascada más impresionante y alta de todo Colombia. Esta caída de agua de 590 metros de altura, es una de las tantas maravillas naturales que guarda el municipio de Choachí. Pero en el camino hacia este increíble lugar, también se encuentra la cascada El Chiflón, la cual tiene una altura de 55 metros, nombrada así por el sonido que provoca el agua al caer con tanta fuerza.
Existe una leyenda que recorre los huecos más oscuros de esta imponente cascada, pues cuentan los lugareños que detrás de las rocas húmedas de la Chorrera, se encuentra un antiguo cáliz que le fue robado a la iglesia hace muchísimos años, según el relato, los ladrones escondieron dicha reliquia entre las rocas para que nadie la encontrara, lo cual añade un toque de misterio e historia a tan bello lugar.
5.- Laguna de Guatapé
En el corazón de Antioquía, se encuentra el municipio de Guatapé, un sitio que nos recuerda lo pequeños que somos frente a la madre naturaleza. Al llegar al sitio se observa en el horizonte un desfile de edificios y casas con fachadas de mil colores; la riqueza arquitectónica de esta provincia, le da al sitio un encanto majestuoso y pintoresco.
4.- Cerro Monserrate
El más imponente cerros de Bogotá, es también un gigante de 3,152 metros de altura, que además tiene alrededor de 16 millones de años de antigüedad. Admirado desde la época colonial, en el punto máximo del cerro, se asoma un recinto sagrado, La Basílica del Señor de Monserrate, testigo de las más largas peregrinaciones, un atractivo turístico que además, cuenta con una espectacular vista panorámica, sin duda ,estar en la cúspide del majestuoso cerro alegra el alma y purifica todo con su aire limpio.
3.- Museo del Oro
Este sitio guarda gran parte de la riqueza histórica de la ciudad. El museo del oro del banco de la República colombiana nació para conservar todas las piezas de orfebrería y alfarería de distintas culturas indígenas colombianas.
El museo resguarda alrededor de 34 mil piezas de oro, por lo que es considerada la colección más grande del mundo, misma que rinde homenaje a la riqueza cultural del país.
2.- Comuna 13
Aunque durante una época, la comuna 13 fue asociada a la violencia, el narcotráfico y la pobreza, hoy, una nueva generación de jóvenes, han decidido tomar el futuro de este sitio en sus manos. Con la esperanza de salir adelante, comenzaron a impulsar el turismo con ayuda de arte, para así apoyar a los comercios locales. Hoy la violencia es cosa del pasado, y la comuna 13 ofrece un espectáculo genial que cuenta la historia de este barrio en sus paredes; cualquier visitante se maravilla con galerías urbanas de arte y hasta el conocido graffiti tour, un recorrido dirigido por los jóvenes para mostrar el nuevo rostro de este sitio.
1.- Laguna de Guatavita “El Dorado”
Escondida entre kilómetros de vegetación, se encuentra esta laguna, que resguarda en las profundidades un tesoro oculto. Guatavita, ha sido el centro de una increíble leyenda. De acuerdo a los historiadores, esta laguna era un sitio sagrado, un centro ceremonial donde los Muiscas, habitantes del lugar, adoraban y aceptaban a su nuevo líder en una grandiosa ceremonia, misma que se llevaba a cabo en el lago. Cuenta la leyenda, que el líder de la comunidad, debía ser presentado sobre una balsa en el lago, cubierto únicamente en polvo de oro, y en el ritual, debía ofrendar a los dioses ricos ornamentos de esmeraldas y joyas elaboradas con el metal dorado. Dicho tributo se arrojaba al fondo del lago y por su parte, los demás miembros de la comunidad, debían presenciar el acto y jurar fidelidad a su nuevo jefe desde la orillas del lago.

El Peñol is a giant rock known as 'la piedra más grande de Colombia' (the biggest stone in Colombia). It weighs 66 million tonnes and contains granite and quartz. The first documented climb was in 1954 when three men took five days to reach the top. Nowadays, it takes 740 steps to reach the very top of the man-made tower at the summit. We found that the weather in this part of Colombia changes every twenty minutes or so - we saw both the sun and rain during our climb. The clouds lifted enough at the top for us to enjoy the gorgeous view of the surrounding lakes and landscape. You'll notice what looks like a 'GI' written on the northern face of the rock. The monolith is situated between two towns, Guatapé and El Peñol, and each has fought over ownership over the years. One day the people of Guatapé decided to settle it once and for all by writing 'Guatapé' in huge letters. By the time they had finished the 'G' and the first vertical line of the 'U' the people of El Peñol had taken notice and assembled to stop it. All that remains is an unfinished name and a part of local history that hasn't washed away.

Colombia is well known for El Peñol in Guatape; the giant rock that dominates a gorgeous lake district near Medellin. It is possible to climb this big rock in Colombia by hiking up more than 700 stairs built into the side of El Peñol. If you are looking for easy day tours from Medellin, going to Guatape is the best one! Here's why you should visit Bogota, Colombia's colorful capital city! It was way better than we expected!
Bogota is one of those cities that gets a bit of a bad reputation and many travelers will merely pass through the airport or bus terminals on their way to some of Colombia's more touristy destinations like Cartagena or Medellin.
But if you do choose to stick around in Colombia's capital you'll be rewarded with some really great experiences! We spent one week living in Bogota and definitely recommend allowing at least a few days to get to know the city during your Colombia trip!

GIANT BUGS IN COLOMBIA | Eileen Aldis
Outside of Portland, Oregon, I'd never seen an entire lot devoted to food trucks set up in such a cute way - until we found La Estación del Foodtruck in Salento, Colombia. There are ten food trucks facing a central courtyard which is a covered area with both picnic tables and round tables and stools made out of tree stumps. At one end is a fire pit with a comfy couch you can sink into as well. There are lots of different kinds of food on offer, including Mexican, Middle Eastern, fries, grilled meats, vegetarian, burgers, and a bar cart serving drinks. My favourite cuisine was from the Venezuelan food truck called La Guaira. The women who operate the truck are incredibly friendly and kind - always smiling :) I ate there about ten times and ordered the same thing: Pabelllón Criollo. It's a plate full of lots of different kinds of delicious food and I loved to sample them all: rice, beef, fried plantain, avocado, beans, and an arepa. This area is such a fun place to go and get something to eat and on Saturdays a live band plays. After eating, I saw a giant bug that had flipped onto its back and appeared to be stuck. I was nervous to go near it but wanted to help so I got a big stick to try and help it get back on its feet. A man saw me and came over and picked up the bug in his hand!! He said it wouldn't bite me or fly so I decided to put it on my hand - why not?? But as the bug was climbing over to me its pinchers dug deep into my finger, which hurt, so I decided that was enough contact! The same man showed me another 'more dangerous' bug which is the kind we'd seen all around Salento either on the ground or flying around. They look like big beetles. He said not to touch this kind as they can hurt you. Locals refer to them as 'samurai' because, if they feel threatened, they go into fighting position by standing up on their back feet and putting their arms out like a boxer while a huge sword-like appendage sticks straight out like a samurai warrior. You could see it throwing punches! I thought it was enough to observe that one from afar. I've never seen bugs anywhere near this big in nature.
