Not only does it have Turkey’s largest lake, the Van region has plenty of amazing sights that are still quite unknown to most foreign visitors. From historic castles to natural waterfalls and an interesting history - Van definitely surprised me a lot!
This Turkish city doesn’t only serve the best breakfast, but they also have one of the cutest furr friends around!
The Van Cats
I was curious to learn more and so I went and visit Van Cat House which, as it turned out, is more of a small research facility by Van University than a house and they are trying to breed the rare 2-colored-eyes Van Cat species here.
Within Van Cat House, you can spend some time and play around with these magnificent 2-colored-eyes cats and you can learn a little bit more about the features of Van cats from the staff there.

터키 반(Van) 호수의 악다마르섬(Akdamar island) 탐험 영상입니다.
반 시내에서는 약 50분정도 차로 떨어져있는 게바쉬(gevaş)라는 도시의 선착장에서 배가 떠났으며 약 20분정도 배를 타고 섬으로 들어가 구경하고 왔네요.
개인적으로 터키여행중 너무 가보고싶었던 곳이었는데 보고와서 너무 만족스러웠어요!
특히 저 초록빛 호수와 푸르른 하늘, 그리고 아르메니아 성당... 와.....
과연 이게 우리가 알던 터키의 모습인가 하는 생각이 들더군요.

This is a video about visiting Akdamar island in lake Van, Turkey.
The ferry left from the pier in gevaş, which is about 50 minutes away by car from Van city center, and it took 20 minutes to get to the island.
Personally, it was a place I really wanted to visit during my trip to Turkey and it was very meaningful and worth it.
Especially the green lake and the blue sky. and the Armenian church.....
I was so surprised that I didn't feel like it was typical Turkey that we knew!

What to do in Van Turkey, here i found Armenian history. Van Lake is in the far east of Turkey in the Armenian Highlands. It's the largest lake in Turkey. Van Lake was the centre of the Armenian Kingdom of Ararat from about 1000 BC. The history of it can be found in Akdamar Island, where the ancient (10th century) Armenian Cathedral located and still exist till today. The ruins of the Armenian Kingdom can be found in the Van Castle. Two days is enough time to explore Van.

Lake Van is the largest lake in Turkey.The lake was the centre of the Armenian kingdom of Ararat from about 1000 BC. Akhtamar Island is home to the 10th century Armenian Holy Cross Cathedral, which was the seat of the Armenian Apostolic Catholicosate of Aghtamar from 1116 to 1895.

Gün, 11 Mayıs Cumartesi. Akdamar nâmıdiğer Ahtamar Adası'ndayız. Merkezden Edremit Sahili'ne giden minibüslerle Akdamar Adası'na giden deniz otobüslerinin kalktığı yere varıyoruz. Yarım saat kadar sonra adadayız. Karşımızda kilise, göl ve Ahtamar Efsanesi.
*Görüntüyü, günlüğümün ruhuna uygun olduğu için Ağrı-Van Günlükleri'nin tamamında biraz eskittim. Çok sayıda Van Vlogu içerisinde kendi vlogumun salt görüntüyü sunmaktan çok tecrübe ve anlatıma dayalı olmasını tercih ediyorum.

The Fortress of Van [Van / Turkey]
The Fortress of Van is a massive stone fortification built by the ancient kingdom of Urartu during the 9th to 7th centuries BC, and is the largest example of its kind. It overlooks the ruins of Tushpa the ancient Urartian capital during the 9th century which was centered upon the steep-sided bluff where the fortress now sits. A number of similar fortifications were built throughout the Urartian kingdom, usually cut into hillsides and outcrops in places where modern-day Armenia, Turkey and Iran meet. Successive groups such as the Medes, Achaemenids, Armenians, Parthians, Romans, Sassanid Persians, Byzantines, Arabs, Seljuks, Safavids, Afsharids, Ottomans and Russians each controlled the fortress at one time or another. The ancient fortress is located just west of Van and east of Lake Van in the Van Province of Turkey.

Akdamar Church | Cathedral of the Holy Cross [Van / Turkey]
The most interesting place to visit is undoubtedly Akdamar Church and Island. The church is located in an island in Lake Van and it is possible to reach there by boats. After about 30 minutes boat-ride, you will be amazed with what you will see there.
Akdamar Church was built in between 915 and 921. It has amazing reliefs on its’ walls which include lots of stories from The Old Testament and lots of creatures. The church has some frescoes inside, but unfortunately they are not in a good shape. The interesting point about the frescoes is the look of the people.

Akdamar Island, the second largest island in Lake Van, is among the most populer tourist attractions in the region with is church of the same name. Akdamar İsland , within the borders of the Gevaş district of Van, is 70.000 square meters. The Island, which has a coastline of 3 km, is at an altitude of 1,912 meters above ses level. Airline is the best option for transportation to Van, where Akdamar Island is located. There are direct flights to Ferit Melen Airport every day from İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Antalya and Adana.
For those who prefer the railway, the Van Lake Express makes reciprocal flights from İstanbul and Ankara to Tatvan twice a week. Van is 1.702 km from İstanbul, 1.259 km from Ankara and 1.816 km from İzmir. It is possible to greet Lake Van from Akdamar by visiting Van, thanks to its airway connections from all over Turkey. Moreover the Akdamar Church, which was inherited from the Armenians, is the most important symbil that turns the Island into a tourist attraction.

This video is about our Tour to Akdamar Island in Van, Turkey. To get to Akdamar Island, we took a bus from Can city center to Gevas and from there we took the Akdamar Island ferry. It is 40 km from Van city center to Gevas and the ferry took around 20 minutes. This magnificent island is one of the best places to visit in Van, Turkey. It has great views and certianly winter looked magical in Akdamar Island. We hope you like our day trip to Akdamar Island!

Lake Van: In the times of ancient Greece it was known as Thospitis Lacus, or Arsissa Lacus, which is derived from the Urartian city of Van, or ancient Chauon. Lake Van is the largest lake in Turkey and the second largest in the Middle East. It's also the biggest sodium water lake in the world. The lake lies on the high grounds of Eastern Anatolian region near the border with Iran. It was formed by a crater caused by a volcanic explosion of Nemrud mount near the province of Van. It covers an area of 1,434 square miles and is more than 74 miles across at its widest point. It's elevation from the sea level is 1,646 meters, deepest point is 457 meters.
