For New Zealanders and Australians visiting Turkey, Gallipoli Peninsula (known locally as Çanakkale Peninsula) is an important site to visit because of the ANZAC involvement during WW1.
We took a day tour from Canakkale over to the peninsula to get an in-depth tour and history lesson while visiting the ANZAC battle grounds and memorial sites.

How to get to Anzac Cove WITHOUT A TOUR or GUIDE! We couldn't find much information so hopefully this helps!
Pleasantly surprised would be a massive understatement to describe our week in Çanakkale.
WE LOVED IT!
In this video we figure out how to get to ANZAC cove by ourselves during winter and without paying for a tour. turns out that it's not as easy as we thought! BUT there are some positives too.
We also head back to Canakkale and try 3 things we had our eye on the whole time we were there!

Eceabat used to be known as Maydos or its Greek name Madytos, its strategic position opposite Canakkale made it an important key position in the First World War. The town is also the nearest town to the Gallipoli Campaign and the war graves and memorials of the soldiers that fell in battle. I was in Çanakkale back in September. On my final full day, I went to see the famous Trojan Horse that was used in the movie Troy.
Also, I had a chance to check out the impressive Naval Museum which exceeded my expectations. I ended the day with a ferry ride back to Gallipoli.
Çanakkale is a fascinating place to travel to as it's immersed in history. In addition to this, I feel it's a wonderful place to visit as a tourist due to how immaculate it is and how the weather and surrounding sea makes it an ideal place to visit.

Whether you're from New Zealand or Australia, visiting Turkey to sleep in Anzac Cove Gallipoli to wake up on Anzac day for the Dawn Service is something the majority wish they could do. This travel vlog series through Turkey is important for us far beyond just visiting a cool country, we picked this trip with Travel Talk Tours in part because of the history behind our Lest We Forget motto and it's significance for us to be able to visit Gallipoli and attend the Dawn Service.
Our timing wasn't ideal though, with threats of retaliation for a nasty event that happened in New Zealand a few months prior there was genuine safety concerns that had everyone on edge. Not just all of the New Zealand and Australia visitors to Gallipoli attending the Dawn Service either, with the amount of media coverage about Anzac Day back in NZ and Aus it was our families who were seriously concerned and worried as well.
We almost didn't make this video, but decided against letting fear hold us back - it's a genuine experience of an amazing trip to Anzac cove, attending the one true Dawn Service and paying our respect to the spirit of Anzac.
If you're reading this because you're deciding if you should book that ticket to Turkey, make the trek to Gallipoli and visit Anzac cove - DO IT. Fear aside, it was an emotional and incredible experience to be there and understand even deeper what happened to our own.

We’re Marianne and Chris, a married couple from the UK. After some life changing events we decided that life was just too short. We sold all our belongings, bought an old Campervan & rented our house to travel full time. The aim is to attempt to visit every country in the world in either our van or with a backpack. We started videoing our travels for our family and then decided it was a wonderful way to document and share our adventures.
Our latest adventure started in January 2020 when we left the UK in an attempt to drive our van all the way around the world. Let the adventures continue.
Teil 12/Türkei Trip - von Bodrum auf die Halbinsel Gelibolu
Wir starten in das zwölfte, und somit letzte, Video mit der Hafeneinfahrt nach Bodrum. Wir machen einen ausgiebigen Stadtbummel und suchen uns anschließend einen Platz für die Nacht. Wieder einmal finden wir einen wunderschönen Spot direkt am Meer. Hier verbringen wir drei Tage weil es so schön hier ist. Nächstes Ziel ist die antike Ruinenstadt Ephesos. Für uns definitiv die schönste und beeindruckendste Ausgrabungsstätte der Türkei, die wir besucht haben. Weiter geht`s, entlang der Küste, vorbei an Izmir bis nach Canakkale. Wir parken zentral und besuchen die Stadt. Hier finden wir unter anderem die original Requisite der Troja Verfilmung mit Brad Pitt. Es weht ein echt frischer Wind und wir stellen fest dass der Herbst mittlerweile auch in der Türkei angekommen ist. Mit der Fähre geht es am nächsten Tag über die Dardanellen auf die Halbinsel Galipolli. Somit erreichen wir wieder Europa und machen uns, bedingt durch das schlechte Wetter, auf den Heimweg.
