10 Most Affordable Places to Live in Colorado 2021.
For people who look for the most affordable and beautiful states to live in, Colorado usually one of the top 10 candidates. With an average of 300 days of sun a year, residents and visitors alike love spending time in Colorado’s great outdoors. Colorful Colorado is also known as a favorite vacation destination – travelers love to come here for the stunning mountains and all the activities they provide, from skiing in the winter to hiking, camping and rafting in the summer.
With the legalization of marijuana in 2012 (one of the first states to do so), and a reasonable cost of living, there’s been a sharp increase of people moving to the Centennial State. Housing prices continue to rise (as of September 2020), especially along the Front Range, from Fort Collins, Denver, Castle Rock and into Colorado Springs. The popular ski mountain towns are also well above $400,000 in median housing prices – it’s not uncommon to see million-dollar homes in prestigious areas.
But given the outdoors benefits – the cost of living in Colorado is still one of the best values in the country. Here are the ten most affordable places to live in Colorado, taking into account the cost of living, median housing price, average crime rate and other factors which make a place unique.

9. Lamar

Worst RV Campground Ever // (And How we Saved our Weekend!)

***SHADY GROVE CAMPGROUND, DENVER PA***

One of our biggest camping fears came to life this past weekend as we pulled into possibly the worlds worst RV campground. While the spots were tight, the sewer connections were not and we found ourselves in a bad camping situation pretty quickly.

After a confusing run in with some of the seasonal campers, we decided it wasn't worth the stress we had to save our weekend - and in this case we only had one option. To hook our Shadow Cruiser Travel Trailer back up and head home.

Currently holding the record for our shortest camping trip (19 hours between check in and check out) it taught us a lot about vetting campgrounds, when to call it quits, and what red flags to look out for when looking for a place to camp with our travel trailer.

Golden, Colorado - History & Information - #26/100

Golden was one of Colorado's first established communities beginning as a mining camp in 1859. At first it was very prominent, even becoming Territory Capital, but when Denver won the railroad, Golden had to turn to other alternatives including the Colorado School of Mines, Coors Brewery and coal mining. Today, Golden has become quite prestigious with the School of Mines regularly listed as one of America's Top 25 colleges, plus abundant recreation and vivid nightlife available year round.

Ski Lodge consists me and the rest of my family as we explore the great State of Colorado and more. Initially created to get everyone out of the house, it has turned into a vast collection of history, photography and general information. We are most active at facebook.com/skilodgecolorado

Tour Historic Ft. Pickens in Pensacola Beach!

Are you looking for an educational experience for the kids during your Northwest Florida vacation in Pensacola Beach? Or, are you a history buff? Perhaps you just love touring spectacularly beautiful areas while sightseeing. Either way, we highly recommend taking a tour of Ft. Pickens in Pensacola Beach during your Gulf Coast vacation.

Fort Pickens is a US military fort on Santa Rosa Island that was completed in 1834 and in use until 1947. Built after the War of 1812 in an effort to fortify US ports, the fort has a long and interesting history and is also located on some of the most beautiful land in the area. While on vacation, a visit to the Gulf Islands National Seashore, where the fort is located, is great to visit to enjoy the beautiful, tranquil beaches, as well as check out the 21.5 million brick fort.

Check out our short tour here for a taste of the beach, recreation and historic charm of the area and then make it a part of your Pensacola Beach vacation! For more information on Pensacola Beach, or to book your vacation, visit

Rocky Ford, Colorado - History & Information - #30/100

Rocky Ford grew around a railroad station, becoming the hub of the western Ark Valley by the 1880's. Completion of the Colorado Canal fueled sugar beet production, and in no time Rocky Ford become the largest producer of sugar in the entire country. Success lasted through WW2 when the region was unexpectedly forced into decline. Yet to fully recover, Rocky Ford remains famous for its sweet melons and relevant for the services it contains.

Ski Lodge was created to publicly document our travels around Colorado. Started to simply get everyone out of the house, it has turned into a vast collection of history, photography and general information.
