What a great trail which use to be an old train system. Wide and mostly flat with great views. It is 31 miles long and runs right in the middle of town.

A visit to High Bridge spanning the Appomatox River along the Cumberland County-Prince Edward County line near Farmville in central Virginia. The bridge is part of High Bridge Trail State Park. The current steel frame structure dates back to 1914, but the original High Bridge was built in 1854 for the South Side Railroad. It was a strategic site during Lee's retreat from Richmond near the end of the Civil War. Both sides attempted to burn the bridge on two days back to back. Today, the bridge is the longest recreational bridge in Virginia, and among the longest in the United States...the bridge is more than 2,400 feet long and is 125 feet high at its highest point over the river.
