Armenia, Etchmiadzin Cathedral / Ejmiacin

Walking tour at Etchmiadzin Cathedral in Armenia, it is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Very beautiful cathedral, which often regarded the oldest cathedral in the world. The first church was built between 301 and 303. The core of the present building was built in 483-484. Unfortunately I couldn’t record inside of this amazing building because of some renovation works but you can see outside which is great too. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Let’s go!

Zvartnots (Armenia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Zvartnots in Armenia.
Close to Yerevan, capital of Armenia, and within sight of the Ararat Mountains, are the ruins of the unusual Zvartnots Palace Church, a sacred place dedicated to angels, which is said to have come to Holy Grigor in a dream. Master craftsmen created the huge circular church in the middle of the 7th century. On the ground are the remains of the construction’s external circular walls with arches, support blocks and grapevines carved in stone. In the southeast, there is a wine press with wine vats that were found buried in the cool and dry soil of the Ararat Valley. According to legend, the emperor of Byzantium attended the consecration of the church and was much impressed by its splendour. He therefore wanted a similar building in his capital city of Constantinople. The emperor took the master builder along with him, but unfortunately passed away during the journey. Scattered everywhere on the site are numerous treasures of Armenian stonemasonry art as well as mighty eagles with outstretched wings. During excavation it was discovered that the church was built on a man-made stepped platform with a cruciform footprint. Only a small number of circular columns with exceptional Voluten capitals, remain. Of its time, the palace church of Zvartnots was quite remarkable, perhaps even spectacular. However, in 930 A,D., it was destroyed by a devastating earthquake.

Etchmiadzin Cathedral ???????? Armenia

Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church, located in the city of Vagharshapat (Ejmiatsin), Armenia. According to most scholars, it was the first cathedral built in ancient Armenia, and is often considered the oldest cathedral in the world.

The original church was built in the early fourth century (between 301 and 303 according to tradition) by Armenia's patron saint Gregory the Illuminator, following the adoption of Christianity as a state religion by King Tiridates III. It was built over a pagan temple, symbolizing the conversion from paganism to Christianity. The core of the current building was built in 483/4 by Vahan Mamikonian after the cathedral was severely damaged in a Persian invasion. From its foundation until the second half of the fifth century, Etchmiadzin was the seat of the Catholicos, the supreme head of the Armenian Church.

Etchmiadzin Cathedral - Armenia ????????

Etchmiadzin Cathedral - Armenia

Where is Armenia?

Armenia, officially the Republic of Armenia, is a landlocked country located in the Armenian Highlands of Western Asia. It is a part of the Caucasus region; and is bordered by Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, the Lachin corridor under a Russian peacekeeping force, and Azerbaijan to the east, and Iran and the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan to the south. Yerevan is the capital and largest city.

Went on a vacation trip for 9 days with my cousins exploring the Euroasian part which is Armenia ???????? and travelled by land to Georgia ???????? .

Do you need a Visa entering both countries?

Since we are all residents of the GCC Counties (UAE and Oman) we had our Visas upon arrival but you can apply for the visa before hand in their website ( ) a little research will not hurt. Visa is around $2-ish. We did not book any tourist agencies. We plan our own itinerary, booked our accomodations through Booking.com and a Tour Guide so our life would be much easier to go around.

We travelled from Armenia to Georgia by land, when we reached the border we did not pay anything for the visa. Just a stamp on our passports.

What to see in Armenia?

Monastery, lots of it! picturesque architecture's, European vibe (country side)

How's the food?

I LOVE IT!!!!! but if you're an Asian, you'll crave for RICE! HAHAHA

How is the weather?

It is cooooold! We toured during the winter season. We did not experienced the snow fall hence we had a great time playing on the snow mountain.

This is just the beginning of the tour, hope to share other videos from Georgia as well.

Thank you for watching..

Zvartnots Cathedral (Armenian: Զուարթնոց (classical); Զվարթնոց (reformed), sometimes rendered in scholarly works as Zuart'nots' or Zuart'noc' ; literally 'celestial angels cathedral') is a medieval Armenian cathedral near Vagharshapat (Ejmiatsin), Armenia. Built in the seventh century and now lying in ruins, Zvartnots was noted for its circular exterior structure, unique in medieval Armenian architecture, and a set of interior piers that upheld a multifloor structure crowned with a dome.

This is a short excerpt from my long Etchmiadzin video.

ZVARTNOTS CATHEDRAL, ARMENIA: 680-639 B. C. ( СОБОР ЗВАРТНОЦ, АРМЕНИЯ) || DAY TOUR TRAVEL GUIDE 2019

ZVARTNOTS CATHEDRAL, a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE is believed to be the site where St. Gregory the Illuminator converted the Armenian king Tiridates lll into Christianity. Destroyed by an earthquake in the 10th century, the ruins of once an impressive architecture are still majestic. Excavations on the site furthermore revealed that Zvartnots stood on the remnants of structures that dated back ti the reign of Urartian, King Rusa II (680-639 B. C.)

This Cathedral is just an hour or so from the city center of Yerevan and on the same region as the World's Oldest Church, Etchmiadzin.

After bargaining with our host we decided that taking a taxi to 4 different destinations in Armenia is the best option.

Day Tours to most of the sights in Armenia are offered by most hostels, hotels and travel agencies. You can ask around, bargain for the price and go with whichever suits you the most. Public transportation (bus 111) is also a budget option but not convenient. Yandex taxi is also a good option.
