Gmunden (German: [ˈɡmʊndən] (About this soundlisten)) is a town in Upper Austria, Austria in the district of Gmunden. It has 13,204 inhabitants (estimates 2016 [3]). It is much frequented as a health and summer resort, and has a variety of lake, brine, vegetable and pine-cone baths, a hydropathic establishment, inhalation chambers, whey cure, etc. It is also an important centre of the salt industry in Salzkammergut.

Ebensee (Austria)
Ebensee este un oraş în zona Traunviertel, regiune a statului austriac Austria Superioară, situat în Munţii Salzkammergut la capătul de sud al Traunsee. La aproximativ 90 km (56 mile) nord se afla orasul Linz si mai apropiat orasele Gmunden si Bad Ischl.
In anul 1596, Imparatul Rudolph II de Habsburg a construit iazuri de decantare si evaporare a apei din lac pentru obtinerea sarii, astfel, ca Ebensee a devenit cel mai important furnizor de sare al Austriei. În anul 1883, chimistul belgian Ernest Solvay Solvay a descoperit si bicarbonatul, facand din Ebensee un important centru industrial al Austriei.

The Feuerkogel, Upper Austria's most sun-blessed point, invites you to enjoy an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Salzkammergut, with a superb 360 degree panoramic view to Dachstein and the lake region, cosy Alpine lodges and lots of sporting opportunities!
Easily accessible from Ebensee am Traunsee via the Feuerkogel cable car at 1600 metres altitude, which takes you right to the centre of the luxury mountain village. Hike, feast, or laze around in the sunshine there to your heart's content!
In the summer time hiking fans in particular will find the best opportunities, and hikes of all difficulty levels. A trip to the Alberfeldkogel viewing point and the impressive Europe Cross, which takes around an hour to walk to, is just one of the many hiking paths which has fascinating views and which await you on Upper Austria's loveliest and sunniest high plateau.
The sporty among you can continue on a hike to the Großen Höllkogel, or even cross the impressive Höllen mountain range. Even without any knowledge of the area the Höllen mountain range can be conquered without any risk -- just book one of the best trained mountain guides and get a programme tailored made to suit your fitness level.
Guests who aren't so taken with exercise can make use of the four mountain guesthouses to have a stop-off and be indulged with typical hospitality and regional delights!
Feuerkogel mountain run.
The track rekord is held by Austrias best female mountain runner Andrea Mayr (her time was 0:58:21,8) and the Kenian Kosgei. (0:53:09,1).
The main draw for men and women starts at the Rathausplatz at 10.00 a.m. The kids and teenagers start on the Feuerkogel plateau also at 10.00 a.m.

This walk gives you an unobstructed view of the imposing mountain Traunstein.
