LOW COST CAMPSITES - UK Camping's best kept secrets

The UK has over three thousand Certificated camp sites which are available to members of the Caravan and Motorhome club or the Camping and Caravanning club. Non club members often have never heard of them, and a surprising number of members have never tried them. They almost always lower cost per night than the either the main club or commercial sites. Some are very basic offering a taste of more traditional camping, but others offer facilities rivalling those on offer from the larger sites.
In this video I explain what certificated sites are, what they are like, how to book them and how much you can expect to pay.

Places to see in ( Cobham - UK )

Places to see in ( Cobham - UK )

Cobham is a village in the Borough of Elmbridge in Surrey, England, centred 17 miles south-west of London and 10 miles northeast of Guildford on the River Mole. It has a commercial/services High Street, a significant number of primary and private schools and the Painshill landscape park.

Cobham is an ancient settlement whose origins can be traced back on the ground through Roman times to the Iron Age. It lay within the Elmbridge hundred. Cobham appears in Domesday Book as Covenham and was held by Chertsey Abbey. Historically, Cobham other than outlying farms comprised two developed areas, Street Cobham and Church Cobham. The former lay on the Portsmouth-London Road, and the building now known as the Cobham Exchange was once a coaching inn. The latter grew up around St. Andrew's Church, which dates from the 12th century.

Cobham fits into a triangle between the River Mole to the south, the A3 to the north and a borderline for the most part on the nearside of the (New) London to Guildford railway line to the southeast – directly west of Oxshott. On the southern border is the historic village, Stoke D'Abernon, part of the small post town, which gives its name to the railway station between the two areas on the line mentioned: Cobham and Stoke D'Abernon.

At the heart of Cobham is the Church Cobham Conservation Area, which was designated in 1973 and includes fourteen statutory listed buildings. Amongst these are Pyports, once the home of Vernon Lushington; the picturesque Church Stile House; and two fine houses overlooking the River Mole: Ham Manor and Cedar House, the latter owned by the National Trust.

Across the river from the church into Downside village, the estate of Cobham Park was the home of John Ligonier, 1st Earl Ligonier, who was made Commander-in-Chief of the army in 1757. In 1806 Cobham Park was bought by Harvey Christian Combe a brewer and Lord Mayor of London. The present house was completed in 1873 by his nephew, Charles Combe, to a design by Edward Middleton Barry: it has now been divided into apartments. At the other end of the village, beside the A3, Painshill Park is a fine 18th-century landscape garden, restored from dereliction since 1980. Painshill House dates from the 18th century and has also been divided into apartments.

Two other large houses on the outskirts of Cobham have been taken over by schools: Heywood is now the American Community School, and Burwood House is now Notre Dame School. Chelsea F.C.'s training ground is nearby, close to Cobham and Stoke d'Abernon railway station and some of its more deluxe private homes belong to Chelsea's players. The Fairmile or eastern part of the parish has a high proportions of mansions and gated roads.

The River Mole provides a setting for Cobham's best-known landmark which is the red brick water mill, constructed Late 18C and once part of a much larger complex. Thereafter, the Cobham Mill Preservation Trust was formed as a sister organisation to the Cobham Conservation Group and took over the leasehold. The building was restored to full working order by the volunteers of the Cobham Mill Preservation Trust, and first opened to the public in 1993. Cobham Mill is now open to the public from 2 pm to 5 pm on the second Sunday of each month between April and October, inclusive.

To the north and west of the town is the A3 trunk road, a major arterial route from London to Portsmouth. This road links to the M25 motorway at Junction 10, immediately to the southwest of Cobham. The A307, Portsmouth Road starts in Cobham and runs northwards to the adjoining town of Esher. This is also known as the old A3. The A245 runs through the centre of the town and leads to Leatherhead in the south-east and Byfleet to the west. Cobham & Stoke d'Abernon railway station, opened in 1885, is on the New Guildford Line from London Waterloo.

( Cobham - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Cobham . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Cobham - UK

Places to see in ( Esher - UK )

Places to see in ( Esher - UK )

Esher is a town in Surrey, England, to the east of the River Mole. Esher is an outlying suburb of London, and with Esher Commons at its southern end, the town marks one limit of the Greater London Built-Up Area. Esher has a linear commercial high street and is otherwise suburban in density, with varying elevations, few high rise buildings and very short sections of dual carriageway within the ward itself. Esher covers a large area, between 13 and 15.4 miles southwest of Charing Cross.[n 2] In the south it is bounded by the A3 Portsmouth Road which is of urban motorway standard and buffered by the Esher Commons.

Esher is bisected by the A307, historically the Portsmouth Road, which for approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) forms its high street. Esher railway station (served by the South West Main Line) connects the town to London Waterloo. Sandown Park Racecourse is in the town near the station.

In the south, Claremont Landscape Garden owned and managed by the National Trust, once belonged, as their British home, to Princess Charlotte and her husband Leopold I of Belgium. Accordingly, the town was selected to have a fountain by Queen Victoria and has an adjacent Diamond Jubilee column embossed with a relief of the monarch and topped by a statue of Britannia. Unite, the union, trains representatives at its Esher Place centre, and the town has the offices of Elmbridge Borough Council in its high street.

Esher lay within the Saxon feudal division of Elmbridge hundred.
Esher appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Aissela and Aissele, where it is held partly by the Abbey of the Cross in Normandy; partly by William de Waterville; partly by Reginald; partly by Hugh do Port; and partly by Odard Balistarius (probably a crossbowman).

By 1908, Esher contained the fashionable residences of several important figures including Lady Emma Talbot; Sir Robert Hawthorn Collins, the Duchess of Albany and Sir Edgar Vincent, K.C.M.G. who was later created 1st Viscount D'Abernon.
George Harrison of the Beatles had a house (called Kinfauns) in Esher, during the 1960s. The other Beatles were regular visitors to the house, and Harrison's primitive home recording studio.

Esher has office buildings in the High Street and its continuation, Portsmouth Road, which has a cluster of entertainment and dining venues. Esher has a local (roughly county-level) farmers market held on one Saturday every month, moving forward one week each month. Vendors sell locally sourced produce and two riverside farms on the edge of town, one with large shop and grow-your-own are open to the public. A light smattering of small businesses, particularly in construction and landscaping pervades the town. A large hospice in Esher serves North Surrey, with field staff providing relief to cancer patients. Otherwise the town's residents do business or create products from home or elsewhere, such as in the M4 corridor and the City of London.

( Esher - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Esher . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Esher - UK

GLOUCESTERSHIRE, ENGLAND (4K County Tour) Stunning Aerial, Drone, and Walking Tour 4K Footage features spectacular aerial, walking, and drone video footage, great for travel, visit, vacation, and tourism planning set to original music. Gloucestershire is a county in South West England. The county comprises part of the Cotswold Hills, part of the flat fertile valley of the River Severn, and the entire Forest of Dean. The county town is the city of Gloucester, and other principal towns include Cheltenham, Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester, Dursley, Cinderford, and Lydney.

Gloucestershire borders Herefordshire to the north west, Worcestershire to the north, Warwickshire to the north east, Oxfordshire to the east, Wiltshire to the south, Bristol and Somerset to the south west, and the Welsh county of Monmouthshire to the west.

The current Gloucestershire County Council area does not have the same geographical boundaries as the historic county. Some northern parts of the county, including Long Marston and Welford-on-Avon, were transferred to Warwickshire in 1931. Following the Local Government Act 1972, some southern parts of the county were transferred to the new county of Avon, which ceased to exist on 1 April 1996. After 1996, the city of Bristol and South Gloucestershire became separate unitary authorities.

Northern France Road Trip (Le Touquet + Amiens + Montreuil-sur-mer) • Emma Rose Horsley

Last month we travelled to France on a road trip for a few days. We stayed in Le Touquet (my favourite place in Northern France) and visited Amiens, Abbeville and Montreuil-sur-mer. We didn't need to travel far from Calais for a quintessentially French holiday!

I feel quite lucky to live in the south east of England, which means travelling to France is quite easy and only an hour or so away! France is also a country I love to travel in, so I hope that comes through in my video.

Leatherhead 4K | SURREY | UK ????????

Leatherhead is a town in Surrey, England, on the right bank of the River Mole, and at the edge of the contiguous built-up area of London. Its local district is Mole Valley. Records exist of the place from Anglo Saxon England. It has a combined theatre and cinema, which is at the centre of the re-modelling following late 20th century pedestrianisation. The town is situated 21 mi (34 km) south of central London and 13 mi (21 km) northeast of the Surrey county town of Guildford.

Chichester Camping and Caravanning Club Site

Explore the beauty of England's south coast from our campsite.

With cycling and walking trails in abundance, miles of sandy beaches, bustling towns, pretty chocolate box villages and a host of family attractions within a short distance our Chichester Club Campsite offers something for everyone.

Chichester is a small, welcoming campsite. Once an orchard it is now a great base to stay when exploring the numerous attractions for all of the family.

Head across the road on foot or two wheels to enjoy the paths to the coast and Chichester harbour. Or catch a bus from outside the site to Chichester (great for shopping), Bognor, Littlehampton and Brighton in one direction and Southampton and Portsmouth (with the Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf Keys and the Historic Dockyard) in the other.

For a bucket and spade day head to the Blue Flag beach at West Wittering where you’ll find sand dunes, sheltered waters and acres of space. East Head and Selsey too are great for lazy beach days.

HORSLEY: Amber Valley Parish #3 of 35

AMBER VALLEY PARISH #3: HORSLEY

Welcome back to Amber Valley everyone, it’s been a little while! The series starts here and now, in your regular Wednesday slot for the next 30-odd weeks. To kick us off we have Horsley, which lies to the East of the A38, 5 miles due North of Derby. To the locals, this is known as “Ozzley”. Horsley’s parish boundaries also include Lower Kilburn, and part of the hamlet of Coxbench too.

Some of this script was hard to write, because Horsley as a village doesn’t have a great deal of recorded history. That said, it more than makes up for that with its landmarks. Here there are three fountains, positioned at either end, and in the middle of the main village street. There’s a fabulous story behind them! To the South of the village there’s the ruins of a castle too, which goes back to the 12th century. The Horsley side of Coxbench also has a well too which I found quite interesting.

There’s a fabulous village green too, and one of the prettiest churches in Derbyshire here as well. Amenities wise, Horsley can boast a brand new village hall which opened four years ago, and proudly displays on its wall the names of those who sponsored its construction. There’s also a pub too, called the Coach and Horses.

A true Derbyshire village in every sense of the word, within minutes of me parking up here I was being greeted by the locals. Let’s go and see what makes Horsley such a nice place to live!

Places to see in ( Cranbrook - UK )

Places to see in ( Cranbrook - UK )

Cranbrook is a small town in the Weald of Kent in South East England. It lies roughly half-way between Maidstone and Hastings, about 38 miles southeast of central London. The place name Cranbrook derives from Old English cran broc, meaning Crane Marsh, marshy ground frequented by cranes (although more probably herons). Spelling of the place name has evolved over the centuries from Cranebroca (c. 1100); by 1226 it was recorded as Cranebroc, then Cranebrok. By 1610 the name had become Cranbrooke, which evolved into the current spelling.

Located on the Maidstone to Hastings road, it is five miles north of Hawkhurst. The smaller settlements of Swattenden, Colliers Green and Hartley lie within the parish. Baker's Cross is on the eastern outskirts of the town. Cranbrook is on the Hastings Beds, alternating sands and clays which are more resistant to erosion than the surrounding clays and so form the hills of the High Weald. The geology of the area has played a major role in the town's development, deposits of iron ore and fuller's earth were important in the iron industry and cloth industry respectively.

During the 19th century, a group of artists known as the Cranbrook Colony were located here. The Colony artists tended to paint scenes of domestic life in rural Kent – cooking and washing, children playing, and other family activities.

Queen's Hall Theatre, part of Cranbrook School, sponsors many theatre groups, including the Cambridge Footlights and Cranbrook Opera and Dramatic Society (CODS). The Showtimers pantomime group produces an annual show. Cranbrook Town Band, founded in the 1920s, is a British-style brass band, which performs regular concerts in the Queen's Hall, St Dunstan's Church and around Kent.

There are many medieval buildings in the area. At Wilsley Green, to the north of the town, is a Grade I-listed Wealden hall house and cloth hall that dates to the late 14th century. There are a number of medieval cloth halls around the town - the George Hotel is in one dating to 1400, there are two more further down the High St on the north side dating from the late 15th century and 16th century. There are 15th century examples at Goddards Green Farm on Angley Rd, Hill House on The Hill, and on Friezley Lane.

Glassenbury Park is a late-15th-century manor house on the road to Iden Green with a 1730s front block, remodelled in 1877-79 by Anthony Salvia. Wilsley Hotel was originally built in 1864-70 as a home for the Colony artist John Callcott Horsley, designer of the first Christmas card twenty years earlier. The architect was Richard Norman Shaw in his first important domestic commission. The war memorial was erected on Angley Road in 1920.

( Cranbrook - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Cranbrook . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Cranbrook - UK

SWC Free Walk 131, Guildford to Horsley. 25/6/13.

This 12.4 mile Surrey walk along the North Downs ridge provided another fine day's walking.
Setting out from Guildford, the walker is soon walking alongside the River Wey before crossing over it to join the North Downs Way, which is then followed for a good portion of the day. The path ascends through woodland before coming out to open downland for some fine views to the south. Then, it's up to St Martha's-on-the-Hill church for some excellent lunchtime views.
After lunch, the walk descends via The Downs Link path to possible pub lunches in Chilworth or Albury, but this walker continued on past a large pond to ascend to the fine view point of Newlands Corner, with its cafe and visitor centre, and associated crowds.
There's then a fine section of woodland walking before leaving the North Downs Way to follow narrow field-edge paths and woodland tracks to join the Horsley Jubilee Trail. There are some distant views of London from various stages of this finale.
An excellent walk providing some great views and lots of variety. Some sections could be very muddy after rain, and the section near the large pond could well be impassable.
