MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
When you go to San Sebastian, it’s all about eating pintxos (the local form of tapas). The pintxo bars in this city are incredible. But the historic centre can get really busy. So in this video, my Devour Tours co-founder Lauren and I head to the neighbourhood of Gros (only a 10 minute walk from the history centre) and visit 9 of the best local pintxo bars there.

At each of the 9 places we try the specialty pintxo - everything from foie, to anchovies, to cured pork belly, to cod, to the most amazing fresh tomatoes and even dessert. And in each of the 9 pintxo bars, we’re largely surrounded by locals. So this gives us a great insight into the true local pintxo culture.

I give lots of tips for how to navigate a pinxto bar. And I also show you all the local drinks you should be enjoying with your pintxos. From the local white wine Txakoli, to super dry Basque cider to Rioja (from just 2 hours north), you’ll really get the low down and what drinks to pair with your pintxos!

SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN - Welcome to San Sebastian, one of the greatest food cities in the world! Today we’re going on an ultimate pincho / pinxto tour, we’ll be eating seafood, jamon, light bites, and a Spanish tortilla. Stay tuned for some of the best Basque food on earth!

Friends in the video:
Gabriella Ranelli:
Jeffrey Merrihue:

Again, San Sebastian is a capital of delicious food and they take it seriously. As soon as you start eating, you’ll notice the quality, care, and pride that people take in their Basque food. It’s ingredient driven, and you’ll get some of the world’s best quality.

Antonio Bar ( - First stop today is Antonio Bar, champion of the Spanish tortilla - a mix of potatoes, onions, and eggs, caramelized until maximum flavor potential is reached. I tried many tortillas in Spain, this was the king.

Gorriti Taberna ( - Next we headed to Gorriti Taberna near the market for some small breakfast bites, all of which were delicious.

El Tamboril ( - After walking around the market we then headed to eat some pinchos for lunch - we tried their potato salad, fried chili peppers, and their deep fried meat filled red chili.

La Cuchara de San Telmo ( - Next we had some meats, especially their delicious roast suckling pig.

Bodega Donostiarra Gros ( - Gabriella took us for one last lunch stop for a simple tuna sandwich with vinegar.

Ganbara ( - In San Sebastian, Ganbara is regarded as one of the best restaurants serving pintxos, and we were lucky to get a chance to eat their. They take food to the next level, everything dedicated to simplicity and best quality. I loved their velvet prawns and their mushroom dishes.

Borda Berri ( - Next meal we headed to Borda Berri, another famous food bar.

La Viña ( - Finally to end this ultimate San Sebastian Spanish food tour we went to La Viña for a slice of the original legendary Basque cheesecake!

What a day in San Sebastian, and truly an ultimate food lovers destination.

So you're probably wonder, how the hell do I do this trip on my own?

First, let me get one thing clear - because all the different names can be confusing. So you're going to be walking from San Sebastian to Pasajes (in Basque it's called Pasaia) along the trail called Talaia Ibilbidea. Pasaia is a municipal area, and it has four village in it. Two of those villages are called San Pedro and San Juan. Sometimes they're called Pasajes San Pedro and Pasajes San Juan. And it can all be a bit confusing. But anyway - I hope that's clearer.

So, how do you do the walk? First, head to the starting point petrol station (which is here: From there, you walk up the street Zemoria Kalea - just keep following it for about 5 minutes. And then you'll hit some steps, from then on you're on the path. And to make sure you're going in the right direction, just keep following the signs for Pasaia (the Basque name for Pasajes). And below Pasaia on the signs, it'll say, Talaia Ibilbidea which is the name of this path that goes from San Sebastian to Pasajes.

And really you can't go very wrong. It's about 2.5-3 hours walking to the villages.

The Albolea (Basque whaling ship) is here:

The first bar Muguruza is here:

You get the boat here: (it comes every couple of minutes and cost €0.80 each way per person).

Casa Cámara is here: (** you should call ahead to reserve to avoid disappointment). And the fish we got was baked monkfish (called rape in Spanish).
