10 Best place to visit in Darwen United Kingdom

BEST Park in ENGLAND..... probably, Bold Venture Park - Darwen

Bold Venture Park in Darwen, Lancashire is probably the best park in England. It is often described as the gate way to the West Pennine Moors and therefore, is a great place to start a hike up to Darwen Tower and beyond. Alternatively, the park has a rich heritage to explore and also has many artistic features and sculptures. Why not join me as I follow Huntington Heritage Trail through the park and beyond.

The park has an initial formal layout and changes as it travels uphill and the steepness can be challenging in places but does consequently offer a good walking challenge. As you travel upward there are a series of water features including a forty foot high waterfall.

Children are well catered for as there is a good playground with a varied selection of play equipment. However, children will equally be entertained by the various animal wooden sculptures and the giant table and chair, which is know as Huntington's Parlour which they can pose in for the inevitable photo.

This video captures all these features as we amble through the park and out on to the moors to visit Darwen Tower (sometimes known as Jubilee Tower). We return and ensure we capture some of the remaining features including a stone relief scupture before explaining why we believe this to be the best municipal park in England.

The friends of Bold Venture Park are constantly restoring and improving the park, please consider donating below:

Even a small donation would help Friends of Bold Venture Park reach their fundraising target. And if you can't make a donation, it would be great if you could share this video to help spread the word.

10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

BLACKBURN TOWN CENTRE Walking Tour | England, UK

A walk around the town centre of Blackburn. My Adventure Planet

Blackburn is an industrial town and the administrative centre of the Blackburn with Darwen borough in Lancashire.

The town is north of the West Pennine Moors on the southern edge of the Ribble Valley, 8 mi (13 km) east of Preston and 21 mi (34 km) north-northwest of Manchester.

Blackburn is the core centre of the wider unitary authority area along with the town of Darwen. It is the second largest town (after Blackpool) in Lancashire.

At the 2011 census, Blackburn had a population of 117,963, whilst the wider borough of Blackburn with Darwen had a population of 150,030.

A former mill town, textiles have been produced in Blackburn since the middle of the 13th century when wool was woven in people's houses in the domestic system.

Flemish weavers who settled in the area in the 14th century helped to develop the woollen cottage industry.

The most rapid period of growth and development in Blackburn's history coincided with the industrialisation and expansion of textile manufacturing.

Blackburn's textile sector fell into decline from the mid-20th century and subsequently faced similar challenges to other post-industrial northern towns, including deindustrialisation, economic deprivation and housing problems.

Blackburn is located where a Roman military road crossed the river Blakewater. The road linked Bremetennacum Veteranorum (Ribchester) and Mamucium (a major Roman fort that occupied Castlefield in Manchester).

The route of the road passed east of Blackburn Cathedral and probably crossed the river in the Salford neighbourhood just east of the modern town centre. It is not clear whether the road predated the settlement.

All Hallows Spring was excavated by Antiquarians in 1654 and found to contain an inscribed stone commemorating the dedication of a temple to Serapis by Claudius Hieronymus, legate of Legio VI Victrix.

After continued economic decline in the 2000s, new investment began in the 2010s.

In 2015, Scottish designer Patrick Grant rescued Cookson & Clegg, a factory founded in Blackburn in 1860 that was facing closure.

The following year he launched the Blackburn-based clothing brand Community Clothing to boost employment in British mills and factories.

EFL Championship side Blackburn Rovers is based at the Ewood Park stadium. It was established in 1875, becoming a founder member of The Football League in 1888.

In 1890 Rovers moved to its permanent home ground at Ewood Park. Until the formation of the Premier League in 1992, most of Blackburn Rovers' success was pre-1930, when they won the league twice and FA Cup six times.

After finishing runners-up to Manchester United in 1993–1994, Rovers won the English Premier League the following year. In 2002 they won the League Cup.

10 Most Boring Places to Live in the UK

What are the most boring places to live in the United Kingdom? Life in most parts of the UK can be interesting. There are fascinating places to live. However, in the same country, there are some other boring towns and cities to live in. In this video, we’ve analyzed the situations in those places to show you the 10 most boring places to live in the UK. One thing stands out about these places; many of them are among the most boring towns in England, the most depressing places to live, either in England or in the UK, or the worst places to live or work in the UK. As we discuss these places, you need to show some appreciation for the ruggedness and tenacity of people in those places.
10. Cinderford, England
As usual, we want to open the log of the most boring places to live in the United Kingdom with a town and civil parish in England. Cinderford is historically a market town. As you meander through the town, your attention will be drawn to its origin as you see on both sides of its streets terraced houses that bring your mind back to the historical past in South Wales when those mining villages were prominent.
Cinderford has suffered a lot of economic backwardness because of the decline of the coal industry in the 1950s and 1960s. Since most of the breadwinners in this town were employed in the mining industry, the effect of the massive job loss is still being felt. For instance, no revenue is being generated through parking as it is free or almost free. The only secondary school is relatively small.
9. Cumbernauld, Scotland
Let’s step out of England to find the next of the 10 most boring places to live in the UK. We land in a large town in Scotland. The town is Cumbernauld, the tenth most populous locality in Scotland. It’s in the center of Scotland's Central Belt. Though it’s on the Scottish watershed situated between the Forth and the Clyde, it’s culturally far tilted towards Glasgow.
In 2001, some residents of the town described it as “the Kabul of the North.” The situation that fetched it that description persists till 2017 when the town that is geographically located between east and west became the only Scottish town on the list of the most dismal towns in the UK. A group of respected analysts in Scotland chastised local authorities in charge of the town for their negligence and incompetence.
8. Burnley, England
Back to England, we find Burnley, a town in Lancashire among the most boring places to live in the UK. The town, with a 2001 population estimate of 73,021, is 21 miles north of Manchester and 20 miles east of Preston, at the confluence of the River Calder and River Brun.
As you likely knew, the thriving market town formerly recognized as one of the most prominent mill towns is considered boring because of the wide gap between the haves and the have-nots. This is a town where affluence exists side by side with poverty and social exclusion. Consequently, over 8,829 children in Burnley were regarded as living in poverty as of 2019 while some children are wasting excess resources.
7. Hartlepool, England
The next city to be considered is Hartlepool, another town in England that is also a port town in County Durham in the northeast. Hartlepool which has since been a major seaport also has a long fishing heritage.
In this one of the most boring places to live in the United Kingdom, the crime rates, especially violent crime, arson, burglary, and drug are too high. The Hartlepudlians, the people living in Hartlepool aren’t happy that their town has been on many lists of the worst towns. Also, as the largest settlement and an administrative center, it’s surprisingly among the most miserable places to live in England. It’s also the second most dangerous major town in Durham. Given this circumstance, there’s no way Hartlepool can avoid being on the list of the most boring places to live in the UK.

Places to see in ( Bolton - UK )

Bolton is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition.

Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.

Close to the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Manchester. It is surrounded by several smaller towns and villages that together form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, of which Bolton is the administrative centre. Historically part of Lancashire, Bolton originated as a small settlement in the moorland known as Bolton le Moors. In the English Civil War, the town was a Parliamentarian outpost in a staunchly Royalist region, and as a result was stormed by 3,000 Royalist troops led by Prince Rupert of the Rhine in 1644. In what became known as the Bolton Massacre, 1,600 residents were killed and 700 were taken prisoner.

Football club Bolton Wanderers play home games at the Macron Stadium and the WBA World light-welterweight champion Amir Khan was born in the town. Cultural interests include the Octagon Theatre and the Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, as well as one of the earliest public libraries established after the Public Libraries Act 1850.

10 Poorest Towns in England

What are the poorest towns in England? Regardless of how affluent how a country is, poverty is still going to mark its presence in some of its communities, even if it’s not that gripping. This situation is quite obvious in England. To define the poorest towns in England, we have to look at towns with neighborhoods lacking basic social infrastructures such as parks, pubs, and sporting facilities. They are also towns with little or no government funding to catch up with other towns in the availability of shops, cultural assets, sports facilities, and open spaces where people can meet and engage in community life. In this video, we shall discuss some of the 10 poorest towns in England to illustrate this point.
10. Rochdale
If you have to understand the poverty state of this large town in Greater Manchester, check successive government figures about the LSOA which includes Rochdale town center based on the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). You’d see that in all domains of income, wages, employment, education, health, and housing, the town is among the most deprived.
For almost a decade when the attention has been shifted to this town as one of the poorest towns in the UK, a number of scathing articles have featured its condition in the national press. In response, a network of multi-million-pound plans has been put in place which to transform the area. For instance, the town’s housing association is working on upgrading the township housing scheme. However, this doesn’t come without a fierce backlash in form of petitions.
9. Hastings
There’s nothing to really justify millions of pounds of investment in Hastings on the southeast coast of England. For decades, it’s been ranked repeatedly as one of the most deprived towns in England. Grassroots charities’ efforts to improve things with programs such as neighbor-helping-neighbor have not been successful; food charities are unable to bridge the gap.
In Hastings, there’s the catchy phrase heating or eating which shows how bad it is to access basic amenities there. Politicians and journalists usually emphasize the phrase to illustrate the daily dilemma of people who have serious struggles to make ends meet. After feeding, you may not have enough to heat your home and have to endure cold. School attendance and attainment are nothing to write home about here as too many children grow up in poor households.
8. Darwen
Data from towns in Lancashire gave us an insight into how poor Darwen is. It is among the top 5 most dangerous medium-sized towns in the ceremonial and non-metropolitan county of Lancashire and it is among the overall top 20 most dangerous out of 236 towns, villages, and cities in the area. Consider the overall crime rate in the town in 2021 which was 99 crimes per 1,000 people. It is 22 percent higher than Lancashire's overall crime rate of 77 per 1,000. Additionally, Darwen is the 57th most dangerous medium-sized town in all of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Why are we highlighting the crime situation in Darwen? Because the town is very poor and poverty there is aiding crime.
7. Oldham
Oldham in Greater Manchester will not be here if it had maintained its proud history as one of the 19th century largest cotton-producing areas on the globe. However, it suffered the same fate as most of the textile industrial towns in England when the foreign competition was too stiff and was strangulating the local industry.

10 Most Dangerous Towns to Live in England - Burglaries

What are the most dangerous towns to live in England? While burglary might not be the crime with the highest rates in England, it is worthy of consideration when deciding the town to live in. Burglary in this case has been defined as a criminal act of entering a building without permission, or just unlawfully with intent to steal valuable properties or commit some felony. It is different from all other crimes that rob a person of his property such as car snatching, theft from the person, pilferages, and other kinds of robberies. You have reasons to be worried about living in a town that further exposes you to this kind of crime. We, therefore, present in this video the 10 most dangerous towns to live in England for burglaries.
10. Blackpool
Blackpool would always find itself on this kind of list, as the most dangerous major town in Lancashire. In fact, out of the 236 villages, towns, and cities in Lancashire, it is the second most dangerous. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Blackpool was 146 crimes per 1,000 workday people. This is 87 percent higher than Lancashire's crime rate which was 77 per 1,000 residents.
Focusing specifically on burglary, it is 45 percent more dangerous than Lancashire as a whole. While the current burglary rate in Blackpool is 6.19 crimes per 1,000 residents with 902 burglaries reported, the rate for Lancashire as a whole is 4.28. Blackpool burglary rate in 2017 was 4.99 per 1,000 people, 5.95 in 2018, 7.16 in 2019, and 8.54 in 2020.
9. Burnley
We shift attention to Burnley, a town in Lancashire. It is the second most dangerous major town there. It is also among the top 5 most dangerous 236 villages, towns, and cities in Lancashire. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Burnley was 118 crimes per 1,000 people. You can be sure that the high rate of burglary in the town has an effect on that rate.
The Burnley burglary rate is 60 percent more than the rate in Lancashire in 2022. A total of 571 burglaries have been reported giving a rate of 6.85 per 1,000 persons. In 2017, the rate was 5.2, it was 5.99 in 2018, 8.92 in 2019, and 9.83 in 2021. We don’t have the rates for the year 2020.
8. Wigan
This is a large town formerly was within the historic county of Lancashire. Located in Greater Manchester, on the River Douglas, Wigan is midway between Manchester and Liverpool, situated at 25.7 kilometers and 27 kilometers respectively to both cities. The town, which is the largest settlement in its metropolitan borough, has a high rate of burglary. In its postcode area in 2018, a source calculated its burglary rate to be 9.1. That rate was 122 percent of the national burglary crime rate. In 2017, the rate was 5.23. It was 6.47 in 2020 and 6.69 in 2021.
7. Oldham
Oldham is another large town in Greater Manchester. It’s amid the Pennines and between the Irk and Medlock rivers, 8.5 kilometers southeast of Rochdale and 11.1 kilometers of Manchester. This large town is the administrative center of its metropolitan borough.
Like Rochdale its neighbor, Oldham is one of the 10 most dangerous towns to live in England for burglary. Since 2018, the average crime rate in the Oldham postcode area has been 11.7 per annum per 1000 workday people. This rate is 157 percent of the national crime rate. Reports show that burglary crime makes up 7.2 percent of all crimes in the postcode area. In 2017, the rate in the Oldham township was 7.31. It was 7.21 in 2018 and 5.34 in 2021.
