Trabzon - City of Emperors, Silk Roads and Splendid Nature (4K)
Trabzon is much more than Uzungöl and Sumela Monastery!
In this video, taken during an amazing roadtrip in the provinces of Trabzon and partly in Gümüshane, I have not only recorded Trabzon's amazing nature but also the hidden gems of its city. (See below in the description for the places covered in the sequence of this video).
Trabzon is a historical Turkish city at the eastern end of the Black Sea, surrounded by green mountains and close to the border of Georgia.
Trabzon's history, stretching from its ancient Greek foundation to the modern Turkish city, was most illustruous when it was the capital of a breakaway Byzantine state called the Empire of Trebizond. From 1204 to 1461, luxurious palaces, magnificent city walls and sumptuous Byzantine churches were built. Continuing to call themselves Romans, the local Pontic Greeks came to live with the many Turkish tribes, Armenians, Laz, Georgians and Genovese traders that lived within and outside its borders. This created a fascinating blend of cultures which is most obvious in the Hagia Sophia, originally built as an imperial church in the 13th century. Seljuk Turkish and Caucassian architectural details provides it a distinguished eastern vibe. Furthermore, it was an important western port and terminus of the Silk Road, being directly connected to Tabriz in Persia from which much science from the Islamic civilization entered the city. This multicultural diversity continued for many centuries during the Ottoman period, when many mosques and caravanserais were built and when it became the birthplace of infamous Ottoman sultans such as Selim.
Although gritty and unpolished today, this history is still hidden within its monuments and ruins, tucked away between the winding, lively alleys of the city which is still full of culture, craftmanship and traditions. And while the city and its infrastructure and service is not really oriented towards (foreign) tourism, this is offset by sheer local authenticity. Restaurants provide typical traditional food and teafrom the region. Quirky, sturdy and conservative yet very hospitable people provide additional magic to this city and region. Trabzon is a beautiful city which will never bore you.
Surrounding the city is the mysterious turquoise blue Black Sea and its emerald green mountains. Many tourists, mostly Turkish or Arabs, flock to natural and cultural wonders such as Uzungöl lake and the splendidly suspended Sumela Monastery, which was a Byzantine monastery built within a cliff of a mountain. Trabzon is beautiful as a whole however. Every corner that you turn allows for a new awesome view on the mountains and its valleys. The Pontic Alps immediatly rise up from the coastline, with many valleys carved by its streaming rivers where most of its rural population live. In the lower areas you will find hazlenut and tea plantations, and gardens filled with vegetables, corn, pomegrenades and figs. Higher up you reach pine forests and above even the high plateaus with grasslands. Semi-nomadic people live up here tending their flocks, living a traditional lifestyle. Deeper in the mountains some ruined but still living historical villages form remote hidden gems, such as Santa Harabeleri and Olucak in the Gumushane province south of Trabzon. Here, remains such as (Byzantine) churches and mansions remind of the past when these lands were once inhabited by christian Pontic Greeks before the 1923 population exchange between Turkey and Greece. However, Romeyka (Roman) people, being Pontic Greek muslims who still speak a local Greek dialect, and descendants from Laz and muslim Armenians called Hemshin still live in the Eastern Black Sea region.
Trabzon is an adventure for those who dare to venture it, and allow themselves to spend multiple days to go really deep. You will see that the possibilities are endless here.

In 2021, the metropolitan municipality of Trabzon had a total of 816,684 inhabitants and the city center Ortahisar 334,228 inhabitants. The metropolitan municipality is identical in area to the province of the same name. The city is also a transshipment point for the export of hazelnuts, tea and tobacco grown in the surrounding area.
In this video I am walking at Trabzon Meydan & Uzun Sokak which is a famous shopping street after the championship of Trabzonspor which was celebrated in the city center.

I must admit, I didn’t only come to Usak to see the city center or to try Tarhana Corbasi, even though it’s pretty good. But what’s really exciting about Usak are the places outside the city!

تبعد مغارة تشال حوالي 50 كم عن مدينة طرابزون، تقع مغارة تشال في بلدة دوزكوي بولاية طرابزون على ارتفاع 1050 متر فوق مستوى سطح البحر، سعر تذكرة الدخول الى مغارة تشال 11 ليرة تركي وتعتبر مغارة تشال ثاني أطول مغارات العالم.
تحتوي المغارة على نظام تهوية طبيعي تشكل عبر الزمن من خلال الشقوق في جدرانها يسمح للزائرين التجول في مسافة 1 كم الأولى من المغارة ويقدر طول الممرات التي تم اكتشافها في المغارة بـ 8 كم
هضبة حيدر نبي - Hidirnebi Yaylasi -
تبعد مرتفعات حيدر نبي أو خضر نبي عن طرابزون مسافة 35 كيلو متر. يصل إرتفاع مرتفعات حيدر نبي إلى 1600 متر فوق سطح البحر، ويمكنك الاستمتاع فيها بالمشي بين الغيوم في أوقات معينة من السنة.

Cal Cave - Çal Mağarasi -
The Çal Cave is about 50 km from the city of Trabzon. The Çal Cave is located in the town of Dozkoy in the state of Trabzon at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level. The entrance ticket to the Çal Cave is 11 Turkish lira. The Çal Cave is the second longest cave in the world.
The cave contains a natural ventilation system formed over time through cracks in its walls, visitors are allowed to roam the first 1 km distance from the cave. The length of the corridors that were discovered in the cave is estimated at 8 km.
Haider Nabi Heights - Haidernebi Yaylasi -
The heights of Haydarnabi or Khadernabi are 35 km from Trabzon. The heights of Haider Nabi reach 1,600 meters above sea level, and you can enjoy walking among the clouds at certain times of the year.

'Çal' Mağarası Trabzon-Türkiye [4K&60FPS]
Dünya'nın en uzun 2. mağarası olarak kabul edilen 'Çal' mağarası, Türkiye'nin Trabzon şehrinin Düzköy İlçesinde bulunmaktadır. Mağaranın içinden küçük bir dere akmaktadır. Mağaranın girişi geniş olup içerisinde genişliği ve yüksekliği değişmektedir. Mağara girişten yaklaşık 200 metre sonra ikiye ayrılmaktadır. Sola ayrılan yol yaklaşık 150 metre uzunluğundadır. Bu yolun sonunda yukarıdan fazla miktarda suyun aktığı bölüm vardır. Mağaranın sağ tarafına giden taraf ise yaklaşık 400 metre uzunluğunda olup, 60. metresinde küçük bir göl ve çağlayan vardır.
