Die Tuishuise in Cradock is an elegant collection of beautifully restored Victorian era craftsmen's houses in Craddock, the frontier town at the eastern edge of the Great Karoo of South Africa. More than two dozen Tuishuise line Market Street up to the Victoria Manor, a grand old colonial hotel that welcomes you with hearty country fare and décor from the days of Cecil John Rhodes, Olive Schreiner and the droves of adventurers who passed here en route to the hinterland. S1 – Ep 187 – Mountain Zebra National Park – Outside Cradock in the Eastern Cape!
The excitement was wild in the car as we were driving to the Mountain Zebra National Park! It was our first visit to this National Park just outside Cradock in the Eastern Cape and we were very surprised to hear there were lions. Sadly, we never saw any lions but we saw many other different types of animals and birds. After a fair bit of game-spotting, we decided to take a drive through the rest camp to have a peek at the chalets and the campsite. The layout of the rest camp has been beautifully designed to have minimal impact on the natural surroundings. Then it was time to leave, BUT the highlight was yet to come. We spotted a cheetah and we had the privilege of watching it for about five seconds and it was gone! I was lucky enough to have gotten a few seconds of it walking on video. Karoo Hideaway Cabin AirBnB Tour | Mountain Zebra National Park
The Karoo hideaway cabin is situated on a farm just outside of Cradock. It is about 10km from the Mountain Zebra national park entrance which makes this cabin the perfect spot to stay when visiting the National park. The cabin was purposely built around huge boulders , one of which features an outside bath and shower ontop of the rock. The cabin sleeps 2 guests with a sleeper couch. It has all the self catering essentials and an outside braai area overlooking the stream.
This is definitely worth a visit especially when visiting the National park which is filled with activities from 4x4 self drives, game drives, and a restaurant.

S1 – Ep 185 – Hofmeyr – A Pretty Town close to the Bamboes Mountains!
Hofmeyr is yet another pretty Eastern Cape Karoo town which we enjoyed visiting. This town is very close to the Bamboes Mountain Range and its original name was Maraisburg and later renamed after Jan Hofmeyr. While driving around we found the Anglo Boer War Memorial in the park as well as the Great Trek centenary celebratory pyramid which was in the same park in the centre of town. Then it was time for us to leave this beautiful town and find our accommodation at Waterlea-on-River Tented Cabins about 35km from Hofmeyr. What an amazing stay we had, on the river in a fancy tent! Olifantskop pass, Eastern Cape
The Olifantskop pass (Elephants Head) is on the N10 national road between Port Elizabeth and Cradock in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It's a nice road with lots of gentle curves, and with amazing scenery going up and coming down.

Mountain Zebra National Park - Best View in the Karoo
Episode 23: For me, Mountain Zebra National Park in the Eastern Cape province is a very special place. Heck, the entire of the Eastern Cape province is a special place for me, but that can be the subject of a different article!
Mountain Zebra NP is situated on high ground close to Cradock. The entire park has very mountainous terrain and reminded me of Ithala Game Reserve in the interior of KwaZulu-Natal for that reason.

Mountain Zebra National Park Eastern Cape South Africa
Road Trip to the Mountain Zebra National Park in the Eastern Cape - with awesome game viewing. We saw a whole pride of 14 Lions, with mother, cubs and all ages, as well as a huge male Lion. Also saw a Rhino mother and child, Buffalo, Zebra, Antelope and other African wildlife.
The park is in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, around 10Km from the town of Cradock. It was proclaimed in 1937 to protect the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra, which was down to only 6 animals at that time. Today it's a place where one can experience a true African wilderness safari and see 4 of Africa's Big 5 (no Elephants).
I can highly recommend the park, there is excellent accommodation and a restaurant provided by South Africa National Parks (SAN Parks), check their website to book online:
