Clydebank is a town in West Dunbartonshire, Scotland. Situated on the north bank of the River Clyde, it borders the village of Old Kilpatrick to the west, and the Yoker and Drumchapel areas of the adjacent City of Glasgow immediately to the east.
History
when J&G Tomson opened their shipyard in 1871 on the site of the West Barns o' Clyde farm. Clydebank grew rapidly when the Singer Company began construction of Europe's largest sewing machine factory in 1882. Clydebank became a burgh in 1886 and by 1913 the population was 43,000.

Old Photographs Dalmuir Scotland
Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Dalmuir an area on the western side of Clydebank, in West Dunbartonshire. Before being annexed to the growing shipbuilding town of Clydebank, early Dalmuir was a town in its own right and host to Richard Collins paper mill, which opened in 1747 on the banks of the Duntocher Burn. The William Beardmore and Company shipbuilding and engineering works attracted a large population to settle in the area. It was active from 1886 to the mid 1930s and at its peak employed about 40,000 people. Its most well known area these days is Dalmuir Park. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day.

Clydebank is the home of some of the world's finest-built ocean liners, and tens of millions of Singer sewing machines. However, during World War II, it tragically became the worst-blitzed town in all of Scotland. It has also borne actors (for example, James Cosmo), artists, athletes, entrepreneurs (Duncan Bannatyne OBE), film-makers, and musicians (Wet Wet Wet).
Launching at 11:00 on Saturday, 01 May 2010, is 'Clyde-built: a walking tour of Clydebank,' a 90-minute audio-visual walking tour led by a friendly tour guide. It is the creation of award-winning film-maker, Iain McGuinness, director of Post-Blitz Clydebank and Clydebank Through A Lens.
In May, June, September and October, the walking tours will take place twice per day; on every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 11:00 to 12:30, and from 15:00 to 16:30.
In July and August (peak season), the walking tours will take place up to three times per day; on every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 11:00 to 12:30, and from 15:00 to 16:30, and then from 17:00 to 18:30.
Beginning at Queens' Quay (site of the former John Brown & Co. shipyard), each walking tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, and costs only £6 per adult walker (16 or over; £3 concession; i.e., 10- to 15-year-olds, and 60 or over). Included in the price, are mid-journey light refreshments of orange juice, tea / coffee, and shortbread.
The locations visited include: Atlas Street and Cunard Street (former Clydebank Riverside train station); Glasgow Road and Argyll Road (Kizil Mansions); Glasgow Road and Argyll Road (Sue Jane Taylor's sculpture, Kromer Hat); Hume Street (former Clydebank Co-op offices and hall); Chalmers Street and Sylvania Way South (Clydebank Co-op department store); Sylvania Way South (Salvation Army Citadel); Alexander Street (Baptist Church); Bruce Street (former swimming baths); Dumbarton Road and Hall Street (Clydebank Town Hall (and Clydebank Museum)); Hall Street (former fire station); Hall Street and Dumbarton Road (Morrison Memorial Church); Dumbarton Road (Clydebank Library); Miller Street and Dumbarton Road (Solidarity Plaza); Kilbowie Road (site of the former Clydebank School); The canal and Business Park (site of the former Singer's factory); Clyde Shopping Centre; McMonagles Fish Restaurant (the world's first sail-through fish-and-chip shop); John Crosby's sculpture, Bankies' Bike; and Stanford Street (site of the former Stanford Chemical Works).

The length of the Forth & Clyde Canal is 35 miles, and it's possible to walk its entire length - but not be me and not today. 9 miles was enough, from Bowling to Maryhill. I pass 23 locks and have a close look at the Kelvin Aqueduct.

Drive down A818 - Sinclair Drive - Left on to E Clyde Street out to Colgrain Roundabout, back to the Town with a wee Detour to visit the New Leisure Centre then continue along W Clyde Street towards Garelochead
Helensburgh,( Scottish Gaelic: Baile Eilidh ) is an affluent coastal town on the north side of the Firth of Clyde in Scotland, situated at the mouth of the Gareloch. Historically in Dunbartonshire, it became part of Argyll and Bute following local government reorganisation in 1996.
Helensburgh is 25 miles (40 km) northwest of Glasgow. The town faces south towards Greenock across the Firth of Clyde, which is approximately 3 miles (5 km) wide at this point. Ocean-going ships can call at Greenock, but the shore at Helensburgh is very shallow, although to the west of the town the Gareloch is deep.
In upper Helensburgh, developed by wealthy Victorian Glasgow merchants, is Hill House, now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. This exquisite building, complete with original furnishings, is renowned as the finest domestic masterpiece of the internationally famous Scots architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Night Photography Vlog - Queens quay, Clydebank
As the weather was pretty poor during the day on Saturday, I was unable to do my Glasgow cathedral/Necropolis Vlog as planned. So, instead I decided to do a video down at Queens quay in Clydebank, my home town.
The quay is the site where John Brown's shipping yards used to be but all that remains are the slipways and little else except the Titan crane. However the area is still very much one of local interest and at night its a place that is worth checking out for photography.
I hope you enjoy the video and if you stick around to the end you'll see I've added in a blooper too!
