Travel People S1 E1: Talking Spain with Camino de Santiago Guide Monica Chantada

How are we coping with this trying time? Reassessing life’s meaning? Seeking a new life?
Welcome! Sometimes we have to get lost for a while to live found and free. Here we talk about essential journeys that lead us home to the people we were created to be. My guests, masters of #reinvention and growth, will share their #travel go-to places and give insider tips on where and how to take timeouts in their backyards. They’ll inspire and empower you to plan your new adventure to find relationships, rejuvenation, rest--whatever you seek. You’ll be encouraged to take what I call beauty breaks for the soul. Today we're off to #Spain.

0.00-3.30 Intro. “Come Run Away with Me” by Carole Edwards
Photography and courtesy of Monica Fernandez Chantada

I’m Cindy McCain, #travel writer and blogger at SouthernGirlGoneGlobal.com where I share my journey as an explorer of 27 countries, former #expat, and #emptynest survivor. When my children flew away, I did, too. I landed in Morocco. After two years there and one in the Caribbean, I’m back in #Nashville teaching university English, telling #traveltales, and coaching others as they write theirs.

I’m so excited to introduce you to some of the colorful cohorts I’ve met from around the world whose heads and hearts push me to press on in growth, live by my core values, never settle. They make me laugh and no matter how far or long we’re apart, they remain my ride or die friends.

We’ll start with where they are, where they’ve been, and how they got there. I will ask them to describe their trajectories using Joseph Campbell’s stages of the hero’s journey--the way he said we follow our bliss. I’ll ask guests when they heard the call to a different life, what pushed them to cross the threshold into a new world, who became mentors and allies as they faced testing, whether or not they found what they were looking for, and how their lives have changed since.

Today’s guest is….
Monica Fernandez Chantada

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Casco antiguo de Pontevedra

Places to see in ( Galicia - Spain ) Casco antiguo de Pontevedra

The historic center of Pontevedra, declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1951, is one of the best preserved in Galicia, and indisputable witness to the medieval splendor of the city, when Pontevedra was still closely linked to the sea.

The beauty of its streets and squares will seduce anyone who visits them, among popular and ancient houses that reveal the past of the city, with important architectural examples that preserve the charm of past times. Throughout the walk you will see the last hidalgo of Pontevedra, when walking to the passage of the many blazons that occupy the facades of all the historical helmet.
La Pla de la Leña, where the firewood used to be used to heat the kitchens, includes the three mansions that currently house the Provincial Museum, which is recognized as one of the most representative museums in Galician history, archeology and art. At one step, the Plaza de Verdura, where the products of the countryside could be marketed only a few years ago, became one of the main centers of the town, a meeting point for a refreshment before continuing our walk to Plaza del Teucro, name of the Greek arquero to which the foundation of Pontevedra is attributed to him.

Going down to the river bank we arrive at Mugártegui square - just before reaching the Plaza de Abastos - where the pazo currently occupying the seat of the Regulatory Council of the Rías Baixas Denomination of Origin, flag of the well-known wine Albariño de area. Following our route, in the highest part of the historical center, we find the spectacular square of the Ferraria, where formerly the artisans worked the forge. Today it is a meeting place for many of the shows organized in the city, and it houses, among other buildings, the Convent of San Francisco, with its beautiful gardens.

Besides the representativeness and excellent state of preservation of its civil architecture, the historical center of Pontevedra stands out for its no less important religious architecture. Thus, the ruins of the old Convent of San Domingos, despite the fact that today only part of its external skeleton and the head of the old temple, are considered the best exponent of Galician Gothic.
Near the ruins of San Domingos is the Basilica of Santa Maria a Mayor, declared a National Monument, which should be emphasized the plateresque front of great size ordered to build polo old Gremio de Mareantes in the XV century, where depicted Christ of the Good Journey, to which the fishermen entrusted themselves before leaving to the sea.
In addition, it is worth mentioning several representative conventual churches, such as San Francisco, La Peregrina, with a scallop-shaped plant as a symbol of the Xacobeos Roads - and, a little further on, below the Plaza de la Leña, of San Bartolomeu and Santa Clara.

( Galicia - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Galicia . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Galicia - Spain

The world of the Camino de Santiago is an intricate and complex adventure that invites us to ask ourselves questions such as: Which path to choose , how we prepare for the adventure, what will be our necessary equipment for each route, or what sites we can get to see on this trip . For this reason, and because we want to answer all possible questions about this adventure.

Ribeira Sacra Wine Route in Galicia

It is a small wonder that the Ribeira Sacra has not yet achieved a 'must visit status' both within and outside Spain. The area boasts some of the most spectacular gorge scenery in Europe. Terraces of vines perch precariously on improbably steep slopes and a multitude of medieval monasteries, churches and chapels overlook the rivers or nestle in gentler terrain nearby. Lying northeast of Ourense the Ribera Sacra is located deep in the interior of Galicia, yet can be reached in less than an hour and three quarters from Santiago de Compostela.

Camino De Invierno: Monforte de Lemos to Santiago (Day 6-10) The LAST 100 KM!

Hike with us from Monforte de Lemos and the last 100 km to Santiago de Compostela. We started the Camino de Santiago de Invierno (Winter Way) in Ponferrada on February 27th, 2023.

In this video we walk from Monforte de Lemos, across the Miño River to Chantada, eat a huge cocido lunch in Lalín, and end our journey in Santiago de Compostela.

This is our first time walking the Camino De Invierno, and our first time hiking the Camino in winter. We hiked the Camino del Norte in Summer 2019 and the Camino Frances in Fall 2017. We packed ultralight bags for all of our journeys.

The way to Santiago

Hey there! Here we go. Finally i've had a spare time to watch and edit the footages I took during my journey through the Spanish Navarra, Rioja, Castilla y Leon and Galicia; all the way to Cabo Fisterra, also known as El antiguo fin del mundo.
I began my walk in Bayonne hitchhiking cause the bus left us stranded, once i got in Saint-Jaen-Pied-de-Port is was already time to set my alarm for the next morning. I don't want to be a spoiler so go ahead and plug your earphones or turn up the volume :)
Hope you enjoy it guys.
Peace

???????? Bosque de Cobre Hiking Route | Serranía de Ronda in Autumn ????

In this short video we will be Hiking in the Bosque de Cobre, which translated into English it can be known as the Copper Forest, due to its vibrant colours in Autumn, but for simplicity, we will stick with el Bosque de Cobre

The Bosque de Cobre is located mainly in the Valle Genal, which is part of the landscape of the Serranía de Ronda.

It receives its name due to the golden colour of the leaves from the chestnut trees, and it offers, one of the most stunning autumn landscapes views in the interior of the province of Malaga, where you will come across a range of yellow, brown, orange and ocher colours. Just spectacular!

The municipalities within the Bosque de Cobre area are: Alpandeire, Benadalid, Benalauría, Cartajima, Faraján, Genalguacil, Igualeja, Jubrique, Júzcar, Parauta, Pujerra y Yunquera.

This video was filmed doing the circular route of Parauta - Igualeja and back to Parauta.

And a special thanks to Las Cabras Locas group, who once again welcomed us and made us feel like part of the family.
