CEUTA (Spain in Africa) - A day in the Spanish exclave across the Strait of Gibraltar (Travel Guide)

Ceuta and Melilla (see separate film) are unique autonomous cities located on the African coast. Centuries of European rule have set them apart from the Moroccan nation that surrounds them, both politically and culturally. Both the architecture and the gastronomy are recognisably Spanish, but with subtle twists resulting from their distinct geography.

Ceuta is easily reached by ferry or Catamaran from Algeciras (see separate film) and is well worth a visit. This film takes you on a walking tour of the city with a particular look at the many works of public art. A delicious meal at La Columna is also not to be missed.

Ceuta emociona is the slogan of the tourist board, and emotions are certainly stirred by the fantasy architecture of the Casa de los Dragones and the mighty sculptures of Hercules.

Ceuta, Spain Travel

Welcome to my travel video featuring the Spanish enclave in Northern Africa - Ceuta. I actually did not know about this city until I relocated in Gibraltar in 2017. I was curious how such a Spanish city could be located in Africa.

A brief history, Ceuta was ceded by Portugal to Spain in 1668, and until today Spain controls this territory. That spans around more than 300 years to date. Spain's sovereignty over Ceuta did not come easy as Morocco have long contested the ownership of Ceuta along with another territory Melilla.

Setting territorial rights and politics aside, I had a wonderful journey in visiting Ceuta. I took the Helity helicopter from Algeciras to Ceuta which was a unique experience, and the ferry Balearia on my way back. There a number of places to visit in the city centre and definitely you can do it by foot. Although, I rented out a taxi to visit Monte Hacho and Benzu as these places are located further away from the city centre. If you plan to indulge in a good gastronomical experience, I highly recommend El Restaurante along Calle Valentin Cabillas. This is one of my best tapas experiences in my visit to Spain.

Melilla - Where Spain Meets Africa (Travel Guide). Discover this unique city enclave.

Occupying 12 square kilometres of the North African coast - 6 hours sailing time from mainland Europe - Melilla is without doubt Spain's most unique city. Sadly its only appearances in the news tend to portray a city on the front-line of migration from sub-Saharan Africa. Yet that is not an accurate picture of a proud community where the languages of Spain and North Africa mix peacefully in the cafes and bars.

The city boasts centuries of history as well as a concentration of Modernist architecture second only to Barcelona. This short guide will take you on a tour of Melilla La Vieja (the fortress where the city began), through the parks and elegant streets, and finally to the heavily fortified border.

The film features an incredible display of drumming from Batu Cañada.

SPAIN in AFRICA | Europe's MOST PROBLEMATIC BORDER | CEUTA ???????? ????????

Inspired by @SabbaticalTommy and @RealLifeLore , I decided to visit Ceuta, Spain, the Spanish enclave in Africa that borders Morocco. Some call it Europe's most problematic border. It's a fascinating geopolitical border situation, and I've always been curious as to how life differs there from the mainland of Spain.. Join me on an adventure to find out.

The goal of my channel is simple yet complex: I want to document and share authentic & educational content of anything related to Adventure Travel, Geography, & Language in the Spanish-speaking world. It's kind of a loaded topic, but it allows me to never exhaust my creative outlets. The truth is, I've always been extremely passionate about what I'm doing on my channel, but I never properly documented it when I started adventuring as a younger man in my college years. I've made over 150 Youtube videos in both English and Spanish, and I have aspirations to make 1000s more. If that sounds interesting to you, join the community and follow me along the way.. THIS IS ALGECIRAS! (Cultural Travel Guide / Guía de viaje)

The port of Algeciras dominates the Bay of Gibraltar and is a busy transit point for North Africa. Most guide books recommend passing through as quickly as possible - but beyond the docks and refineries you'll find a vibrant town centre of typically Andalucian architecture and welcoming street cafes. A visit to the friendly Municipal Museum is the best way to learn about the trials and tribulations that this harbour settlement has both enjoyed and endured throughout the centuries from Phoenician times. For the traveller it's also an affordable and convenient base for day trips to Tarifa, Ceuta and Tangiers. Take a walk through Plaza Alta in the evening before heading to a tapas bar, and dispel any fears that this is a dangerous port city.

I ❤️ Spain ???????? - Best Destination To Travel - Awesome Trips Travel Vlog

I Love Spain - Best place to visit - Awesome Trips Travel Vlog

Spain officially the Kingdom of Spain](Spanish: Reino de España), is a country in Southwestern Europe with some pockets of territory across the Strait of Gibraltar and the Atlantic Ocean. Its continental European territory is situated on the Iberian Peninsula. Its territory also includes two archipelagos: the Canary Islands off the coast of North Africa, and the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. The African enclaves of Ceuta, Melilla, and Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera make Spain the only European country to have a physical border with an African country (Morocco). Several small islands in the Alboran Sea are also part of Spanish territory. The country's mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea; to the north and northeast by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west and northwest by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean respectively.

One Day in Paradise. CEUTA 2023. Walking tour. #Ceuta #Spain #Spain_Travel.

An open city which links two continents and in which four different cultures come together and intermingle: Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Jewish.

On a bay, the fortified city of Ceuta has been a lookout for the Strait of Gibraltar since ancient times. The walled enclosure presides over the old town of this cosmopolitan Mediterranean city.Since ancient times, the strategic location of Ceuta has attracted different civilizations. Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths, and later Arabs and Portuguese occupied the city for commercial or military purposes; it eventually chose to become a part of Spain.

Inside Spain's Exclave In Africa ???????????????? (#124)

Sometimes, you just never know what to expect in Africa. I was in the far north of Morocco, on a very unusual border -- a border with Spain, not in Europe, but on the African continent. This was the Spanish exclave of Ceuta, which borders the Moroccan town of Fnidiq on the other side. What a strange situation, I thought. Your first thought might be, hey why does Spain still have colonies there? But the truth is a bit more complicated -- Ceuta is considered as Spanish as any other part of Spain.

...which is only a problem when you consider some controversial outfits they wear for Christian ceremonies and festivals. What was life like on the border? Let's go and find out!

An intercontinental ferry within the same country? Welcome to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta!

Ceuta is a very interesting place, and also somewhere I had never heard of before, so join me on a journey of discovery, which also happens to be a ferry review with a look at the difference between travelling Standard Class and Premium. Thankfully there wasn't much difference in price as the layout was almost identical, with one big difference that means I'd ALWAYS choose Premium in future. Enjoy the video!

Itinerary details
Outbound Wed 5th October 2022, 14:30/15:30, Standard, €34.90
Return Thu 6th October 2022, 13:00/14:00, Premium, €46.90
(I did hear someone enquire about upgrade to Premium whilst onboard, and I believe they were quoted €25 to do so! Therefore, well worth booking in advance!)
For a one hour ferry, I don't think this is cheap, but the difference between Standard and Premium is minimal.

I stayed at Hostal Central in Ceuta (booking.com £30). Bear in mind, there is a difference between a 'hostel' and a 'hostal' in Spain - Hostales tend to be much more like a budget hotel, and suitable for a guy of my age as well!
