Welcome to Colombia!

Cali is a Colombian city located in the department of Valle del Cauca, southwest of Bogotá. In this beautiful city you have many things to do and discover, let me introduce some:

The Ermita Church is located on the river, right after the boulevard and the pedestrian zone. There used to be a church in the same place, but it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1925. The current building was built in 1942. The church follows the neo-Gothic style and is an absolute eye-catcher.

Very close to the boulevard and the Ermita church you can find the giant trumpet. Jairo Valera was one of the great salsa masters. Below the trumpet are lyrics by the band Salsa Niche.

The project started in 2011 and the boulevard and pedestrian zone stretches around one kilometer along the center of Cali. The boulevard is a popular meeting place, especially in the afternoon and evening.

The artistic installations by sculptor Hernando Tejada found their place along the Cali River in the center of Cali. The installations were inaugurated in 1996 and have delighted all visitors ever since. The various cats fit perfectly into the environment.

The Caliwood Museum shows the film history of Colombia and abroad and has a variety of historical cameras and players. Tours are in Spanish.

Cali Travel Guide - Colombia Unforgettable Adventure

Cali Travel Guide - Colombia Unforgettable Adventure

Cali is a city in southwestern Colombia, capital of the Valle del Cauca department. It has about 2 million inhabitants and is a significant industrial and commercial center of activity in Colombia. Being at around 1,000 meters above sea level it tends to have a warm midday and afternoon with nice Pacific Ocean breezes while nights are cool. Cali is today's world capital of salsa, claiming that competitive distinction even over Colombia's other vibrant big city party scenes, which keep the music going long into the late hours of the morning.

Cali is located on the Cauca Valley to the west of the Cauca River and to the east of the Western Mountain Range near the hills known as Farallones de Cali. The city rests approximately 1,000 metres (3,281 feet) above sea level. Approximately 100 kilometres (62 miles) west of Cali and over the Western Cordillera, lies the port city of Buenaventura on the Colombian Pacific coast. To the northeast are the manufacturing center of Yumbo and Cali's international airport, the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón (CLO).

Santiago de Cali is located in a valley. The city is completely bordered by mountains to the West; the Farallones de Cali mountains are the closest to the city. The Eastern part of the city is bordered by the Cauca River. To the north and south are extended plains. In the first one you can find the industrial city of Yumbo which is part of Cali's metropolitan area, to the south you can find Jamundí, also part of the metropolitan area. The city is mainly flat, but there are areas mostly to the west that are mountainous, like San Antonio and La loma de la Cruz, which are both tourist sites. There are several rivers that descend from the Western Mountain Range and empty into the Cauca River, passing through the metropolitan area of Cali. In the western part of the city the Aguacatal River flows into the Cali River, which continues on to the Cauca River.

Santiago de Cali offers historical areas with cultural variety and other attractions. In downtown Cali there are many historic churches such as La Merced and La Ermita. Cali contains a well-preserved historical center. The most important zone is La plaza de Cayzedo, considered the center of the city, which is a square surrounded by many historical and modern buildings like El edificio Otero, La Catedral and El Palacio de Justicia. This plaza is close to other tourist places, like The Saint Francis church (in Spanish, Iglesia de San Francisco), the municipal theater and La Merced church. The city is also rich in monuments, parks, squares and museums. The most emblematic sculptures are Cristo Rey, located upon a mountain range; Sebastian de Belalcazar, founder of the city; and Las tres Cruces, a place of pilgrimage during the days of the Holy Week.

The city of Cali offers a variety of ways to move through the city; in March 2009, The Masivo Integrado de Occidente (MIO) began operations. It is planned to be the primary system that connects the city. Taxis and old buses are the secondary way to get around. Taxis are one of the best systems that tourists can use, as they are relatively inexpensive and are more secure. Non-MIO buses round out the system and are used primarily by the working class to get around and are less expensive to use. Buses are secure but not at the same level as taxis. This part of the transport in the city is awaiting a needed reorganization of routes.

For the first part of the trip I’ll be traveling with my mate David to the historical city of Cartagena, some picturesque Carribean islands and to the city of Medellin where we get to learn about the violent past and the transformation of the country. After a few days in the capital Bogota I’ll be joined by my good friend Stefan to learn salsa and take on some outdoor adventures in Cali before heading up to Santa Marta where we checkout the most beautiful beaches, float down rivers and hike through the mountains.

The places in the video:
Christ The King:
Cristo Rey (English: Christ the King) is a statue 26 meters tall located in the Cerro de los Cristales (Hill of the Crystals) in the village of Los Andes, west of the city of Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The hill is so named because of the large amount of quartz that could be collected in the surrounding area.
The Jesuit priest José María Arteaga had commissioned the Palmiran artist Gerardo Navia Carvajal to build the statue, but he only made a model before abandoning the project.

San Antonio:
67 San Antonio is famous and recognized as a traditional neighborhood, for its colonial architecture and its history.
It has been declared an urban landmark, an area of heritage and cultural interest. urban preservation in 2000,85 its chapel and its hill were declared National Monument in the year of 1993.

I am a Cali Colombia Travel Guide

I love Cali Colombia so much that I decided to become an online travel guide. In this video, I am showing you San Antonio Cali Colombia. This is a wonderful place to walk around and enjoy. Lots of people come here with their families. It is a family setting and also a great place to bring a date.
This area is full of restaurants, gift shops and street venders.

San Antonio is a historic and charming neighborhood located in the heart of Cali, Colombia. Known for its narrow streets, colorful colonial buildings, and laid-back atmosphere, San Antonio is a popular destination for both locals and tourists alike.

One of the most notable features of San Antonio is its architecture. Many of the buildings in the neighborhood date back to the colonial era, and feature intricate details such as wrought-iron balconies, ornate facades, and colorful tiles. The neighborhood's narrow streets and alleys add to its charm, creating a sense of intimacy and coziness that is difficult to find in other parts of the city.

In addition to its beautiful architecture, San Antonio is also home to a number of cultural and artistic institutions. The neighborhood is known for its numerous art galleries, which showcase the works of local artists as well as international exhibitions. There are also several museums and cultural centers in the area, including the Museo de Arte Moderno La Tertulia, which houses a collection of contemporary Colombian art.

San Antonio is also known for its vibrant food and nightlife scene. The neighborhood is home to a variety of restaurants and cafes, serving up everything from traditional Colombian cuisine to international flavors. Many of these establishments have outdoor seating, allowing diners to soak up the neighborhood's relaxed and bohemian atmosphere while enjoying their meals. In the evenings, San Antonio comes alive with bars and nightclubs, catering to a range of tastes and preferences.

Despite its many attractions, San Antonio remains a relatively quiet and peaceful neighborhood, making it an ideal place to relax and unwind. The neighborhood's parks and plazas provide plenty of green space, and many of the streets are pedestrianized, making it easy to explore on foot. Additionally, the neighborhood is home to several yoga and wellness studios, offering a range of classes and treatments to help visitors recharge and rejuvenate.

One of the most popular attractions in San Antonio is the Cerro de las Tres Cruces, a hill located at the southern end of the neighborhood. The hill offers stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains, and is a popular spot for picnics and outdoor activities. Visitors can hike up the hill or take a taxi to the top, where they can enjoy panoramic views of Cali and the Valle del Cauca.

Overall, San Antonio is a unique and charming neighborhood that offers visitors a glimpse into Cali's rich history and culture. With its beautiful architecture, vibrant arts scene, and laid-back atmosphere, San Antonio is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Cali. Whether you're looking to relax and unwind or explore the city's cultural and culinary offerings, San Antonio has something to offer everyone.
