1. Matroosberg Private Nature Reserve
The southern slopes of the Matroosberg, that is located in the Matroosberg Nature Reserve, is well known as one of the best places to see snow in the Western Cape.
This area is one of the most accessible areas to view heavy snowfall in the Western Cape.
It is located 35 kilometres from Ceres, about and hour and a half’s drive from Cape Town.

2. Tulbagh
The picturesque town of Tulbagh is tucked away between the mountains. This makes it a popular snowfall destination in the Western Cape.
It is located just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town.

Discovering the Forgotten Highway on our way to Ceres, having breakfast and then driving through the town. What a busy place with beautiful streets lined with huge trees in the suburbs. After leaving Ceres we stopped at the Hillbilly Farm Stall and the Creative Hub. Now that was a treat! Snow near Ceres in August 2021
Snow is a rare sight in South Africa. We had our second heavy snowfall this year on it was a nice and sunny day on Saturday 28 August when we went to experience it. It is a 2.5 hour drive from Cape Town when you leave early (or up to 5 hours if you leave at 10:00 due to traffic). Just look for Matroosberg Private Reserve and you will start seeing snow next to the Bo Swaarmoed Road about 10 to 15 kilometers outside of Ceres in the Western Cape, South Africa.
We went to the SNOW | Ceres, Western Cape | South Africa
We had to catch the last snow before Spring hits in a few days. We set off at 5:40am from Somerset West to just outside Ceres, close to Matroosberg Nature Reserve. This was by far the most snow we've seen in South Africa and had so much fun. It was so great to see families out and about and having fun together. What a great day and special memories!

Sunny South Africa Road Trip - Langebaan-Tulbagh-Wolseley-Ceres
Instead of travelling overseas during December 2019, we decided to take a short road trip across part of the Western Cape of South Africa, starting in Langebaan and ending in Wolseley/Ceres.

10 Things To Do In Cape Town South Africa.
In this episode, we are going to show you what you can do if you have a week in Cape Town, South Africa. I originally thought I only had 2 days in Cape Town before we sailed away for the Caribbean but due to a boat registration delay, we were stuck in Cape Town for 13 days.
We made the best of it and took advantage of what Cape Town and the surrounding area had to offer. This episode gives you 10 things we did that we would suggest anyone visiting should do.

Driving Michell's Pass between Ceres and Wolseley
I drove Michell's Pass (and not Mitchell's Pass as I thought), between Ceres and Wolseley, on my recent road trip to the Breede River Valley. Michell's Pass is a scenic old mountain pass, originally built in 1848 by Andrew Geddes Bain and widened and tarred in 1938.

Sedgefield Saturday Markets | Garden Route South Africa
If you happen to be into Saturday markets, the proudly slow town of Sedgefield, which is located between George and Knysna in the South African Garden Route, has got a treat for you. Because there are not one, but three markets from which to choose. Each one with a unique atmosphere and an individual vibe.
The Wild Oats Farmers Market has a selection of fresh farm produce and food stalls. For some reason the market closes at midday, right before lunch, so while it's a good spot to grab an early breakfast, it may not be an ideal lunch venue for those who prefer to get going a bit later over the weekend.
Next door to Wild Oats is the Mosaic Outdoor Village and Market, which is more on the craft side, but also with a good selection of food stalls. It's open later so is a good spot to discover some excellent, freshly made foods. And, you will also find some incredibly talented local artists showcasing their creations.
The Scarab Art and Craft Village is my personal favourite, with some excellent creations that you won't find anywhere else. There isn't much in the way of food, although the local craft brewery is a good spot to take a break, do some beer tasting and get a basic meal.
All 3 markets are pet friendly so your dogs are welcome.
