Ducal Palace of Gandia | Gandia | Spain | Things to Do in Spain | Gandia Spain

Ducal Palace of Gandia | Gandia | Spain | Things to Do in Spain | Gandia Spain

The Ducal Palace of Gandia was, from the 14th century, the residence of the Royal Dukes of Gandía, and from 1485, the Borja family. It was the birthplace of Saint Francis Borja.
Initially, the Palace was designed as a civil Gothic-style urban castle and was ultimately transformed into a comfortable fortified palace.

A tour of the Ducal Palace of the Borgias is like experiencing the history of Gandia, a city that has adapted to changes over the centuries, just like this jewel of Valencian architecture. Each of the Palace rooms is full of tradition and culture, making them unique spaces in which to discover all the secrets of its golden history. A visit to this Palace is a must if you want to soak up some of the histories of intrigues, love, and heartbreaks, reaching back to a past in which values and customs were quite different, and where rooms and halls were made for sumptuous living.

MAIN FAÇADE
One of the few remaining vestiges of the primitive construction of the Ducal Palace de Gandia is the current semi-circular voussoired arch at the main entrance to the building.

THE ARMS COURTYARD
Through the main door of the Ducal Palace of the Borgias visitors first come upon the entrance hall, separated from the magnificent Arms Courtyard by an impressive segmental arch covered with a wooden ceiling decorated with 14th-century paintings.

CROWN HALL
One of the most important rooms on the noble floor is undoubtedly the Crown Hall, which was remodeled in the days of Saint Francis Borja. Its name comes from the double crown that decorates the coffered ceiling. This double-crown emblem was used by Alexander VI as a symbol of his papal coronation, and his descendants later adopted it as their own.

NEOGOTHIC CHAPEL
This was the office used by the Duke in the 16th century. After the acquisition of the palace by the Society of Jesus, the current chapel dedicated to Saint Francis Borja was built, done by Brothers Martín Coronas and Orriols.

ORATORY, OR THE PRIVATE CHAPEL OF THE BORGIA DUKES
The Oratory, was reserved for the private worship of the Borgia family Dukes and Duchesses. This enclosure is a small chapel with a polygonal ceiling with walls that still preserve the Renaissance grisailles done by Filippo de San Leocadio.

THE DUCHESS’S CHAMBER
According to tradition, this is the room where Saint Francis Borja was born.
Of note amongst the decorative artistic elements are the ceramic floor tiles from the late 15th century, a fabric cushion with the Borgia coat of arms, and the chasuble of the Saint brought back from Rome.

THE EAGLES HALL
Located on one side of the main façade of the noble floor is one of the first Baroque interventions in the building by the Borgia family.
Its name comes from the birds decorating the frieze, which is covered in gold leaf and was one of the main halls in the building in the days of the Borgia family.

THE GOLDEN GALLERY
The “New Section” or the “Golden Gallery” ranks as one of the constructions that have lent the most beauty and character to the Ducal Palace. It is a highly significant architectural and artistic element within the monument because it is an outstanding reflection of Valencian Baroque civil architecture.

It was built by the 10th Duke of Gandia, Pascual Francis Borja Aragón y Centelles, to commemorate the canonisation of Saint Francis Borja.

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Calle Caballeros

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Calle Caballeros

Calle Caballeros or los Caballeros is a historic city via the center of Valencia . It crosses from the place of the Virgin of the Desamparados until the place of the Tossal , where it changes of name and takes the one of Street of Cuarte.

Calle Caballeros name has been documented since the 15th century. During the Second Republic was renamed as Metallurgy Street. Calle Caballeros is considered one of the oldest streets of the city, because in its essence it coincides with the decumano of the old Roman city. However, it is a narrow and irregular street, which is not straight, but draws a slight curvature, and barely allows the passage of a lane.

Today Calle Caballeros is a street well known for its restaurants and bars, but its historical and artistic value is based on being the center of concentration of power of the city at least in its highlights. In its beginning in the place of to Virgin, was the old seat of the municipality, now demolished, and the palace of the Generality , seat of the power of the kingdom . Along the street were the palaces of the main Valencian families, who competed in the splendor of their Gothic buildings.

Many of those palaces were later renovated or fell under the picket. survived better or worse preserved and renovated palaces like Fuentehermosa or Castellfort, that of the Marquises of Malferit or the Counts of Brizuela, the Counts of Oliva or Centelles (now Daya Nueva), the palace of the Merchants, counts of Buñol, the palace of the counts of Alpuente, the palace of the Queixal or the palace of the Fernandez de Cordova.

In this street are also outstanding buildings such as the church of San Nicolás , the Talía theater , and the historicist buildings of José María Cortina of number 8, and of Lucas García Cardona in number 14-18 (Sancho buildings). In addition the palaces closest to the place of the Tossal maintain important remains of the old Arab wall .

Some of the mansions retain their residential use, but others have been devoted to their use by public institutions, museums and various agencies. Thus, for example, the Malferit palace is home to the Museum of L'Iber toy soldiers . Several cooperatives occupy the palace of the Merchants, and the Presidential Council of the Palace of Fuentehermosa, Joaquín María Arnau Miramón .

( Valencia - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Valencia . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Valencia - Spain

And also, I should explain to you about ”登山” on the thumbnail.
TOZAN (登山) is meaning Mountaineering and / or Trekking.

I have walked the best trails for the spring season, incorporating the historic castle.
Unfortunately, the castle is in ruins and there is no castle. But it was a stunning view in there.
