Hello and welcome back to your travel channel ????
Today we invite you for a beautiful walking tour to Capdepera in Palma de Mallorca in Balearic Islands in Spain.
The mountain-top town and municipality of Capdepera is a place rich in history and tradition.
Located in one of the most easterly parts of Mallorca and neighbouring the better known resort of Cala Ratjada, Capdepera remains largely undiscovered by the majority of visitors to the island.
The general area around Capdepera was the site of many Bronze Age settlements and was later occupied by invading forces due to its strategic importance. Capdepera itself was built as a result of a decree by King Jaume II from 1300 AD in order to protect the citizens and shipping lanes from invaders and pirate attacks. His order to build a fortified town inland up the mountains was not popular with the locals who were initially reluctant to move there, but they later survived many battles and sieges due to the fortified walls. This easterly tip of Mallorca is closest to the neighbouring island of Menorca and the watch towers and fortress built here were invaluable in the defense of the island.
Since these ancient times this walled town has spread to surrounding areas with stones from the original fortifications being used to build later homes. The original 14th century castle fortress of ‘Castell de Capdepera’ remains. Capdepera still has much more to admire for history buffs, yet is eclipsed by surrounding resorts which offer a more traditional sun, sea and sand type holiday. Today it is a residential town, mainly populated by Mallorcan locals and a scattering of ex-pats.

Going back in time to medieval times to find out how the inhabitants of Capdepera lived at that time.The Market Medieval takes place in the Castell de Capdepera and adjacent streets. During this popular event , the town dresses up as medieval and is filled with lights, colours, sounds and smells that transport us to the Middle Ages. In the market we find different artisans; blacksmiths, herbalists, silversmiths, carpenters, jugglers, shoemakers, magicians, embroiderers, sculptors, cheesemakers and potters, among many others. The public can also enjoy the music, clothes and games typical of medieval times.

A trip to the island could start in Palma, the capital of Majorca, and continue in villages where you can forget about the outside world, like canyamel or Sóller. Where the climate is always mild, and everywhere you go, you’ll find the true Mediterranean lifestyle and cuisine. Because Majorca really embodies the Mediterranean spirit.
► How to reach:
Flying is almost certainly the quickest and most convenient method of travel to the island of Majorca. There's a wide choice of airlines which offer flights at competitive prices.
The public transport in Majorca is just ok, several buses running on an island but to really explore an island you definitely need a car, infact where we booked our stay there were no buses running on the route, therefore we certainly recommend you rent a car and explore the Majorca's diversity.
► Places we explored:
Canyamel: it is a small, relaxed coastal holiday resort town on one of the most eastern points of Majorca in the municipality of Capdepera, Canyamel is an incredibly tranquil holiday destination. The small city centre offers a variety of shops, restaurants and small supermarkets.
Canyamel is a beautiful Blue Flag beach 10 km from the villages of Artá and Capdepera and 76 km from Palma Airport, it is situated in a picturesque bay, surrounded on both sides by hills.
Artà: The north-east of Majorca is still one of the very original regions on the Balearic Island that have hardly been touched by mass tourism, the city has modernized over the past few decades without giving up its historically grown overall image and an impressive testimony to the island's history is the Almudaina d'Arta.
On Tuesdays there are cultural market, if you get time to see do visit that.
Cala Agulla, Cala Moltó, Torre de Son Jaumell:
Cala Agulla another beautiful beach in the north east coast of Majorca, it is located in the municipality of Capdepera near the town of Cala Ratjada, It is the 800m long beach of fine sand and clear waters.
Cala Molto is the small, rocky neighboring beach to the popular Cala Agulla, Cala Molto is a nature reserve and - apart from a few fisherman's huts and the remains of a bunker from the civil war - undeveloped.
Son Jaumell is a historical watchtower on the coast of the Spanish Mediterranean island of Majorca that has only been preserved as a ruin, the watchtower is located in the municipality of Capdepera near the town of Cala Ratjada. It is a small mountain of 277 meters high where a watchtower that dates from the sixteenth century is located.
The first section of the excursion to the Watchtower of Son Jaumell is easy and runs through the Mediterranean forest and on the excursion to the Atalaya de Son Jaumell half of the way passes through pine forests and as you climb the mountain there is less vegetation.

After spending a relaxing day at a beach, you can take a stop and visit the beautiful castle in the village of Capdepera,
It is a fortified structure built during the 14th century under the orders of King Jaume II, so that the inhabitants of the region would have somewhere to settle, especially during those periods when pirate attacks were more common.

Capdepera Market and Castle - Mallorca - Majorca
Wednesday is market day in Capdepera, not as big as some that we have visited but still interesting.
From the market we headed up the hill to the castle. On a hot August day, the climb is quite a slog, but once we reached the top the views mad the effort worthwhile.

Welcome to the caves in Coves d'Artà .
Coves d'Artà is a stalactite cave system on the east coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. Coves d'Artà has a large staircase to the caves, and is about 50 meters above sea level, from where there is also an excellent view of the bay of Canyamel. A well-marked road leads north above the village to the parking lot at the cave entrance. The caves are located in the village of Capdepera, east of the village of Canyamel. Coves d'Artà is located on the southern side of the Cap Vermell peninsula, not far from Platja de Canyamel and the tourist resort of Canyamel. The Artà cave is also called otherwise (Castilian: Cuevas de Artá Art's caves) or Coves de s'Ermità. The name Coves d'Artà comes from before 1858, when Capdepera was not an independent municipality, but belonged to the territory of Artà together with Son Servera. The coves of Coves d'Artà are, together with Coves del Drac and Coves dels Hams, the most famous cave system in the east of Mallorca, in the Llevant region (Comarca). While the other two caves are located near the town of Porto Cristo, the Caves of Artà are located further to the northeast, about 15 kilometers from them.
