Hike in El Yunque Rainforest
Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm *Correction & adjusted to reflect pandemic hours
Cost: $2.00 per vehicle
Total time: Up to you!

During the pandemic & as of May 2021 you must make reservations prior to going to the park. The reservation time slots are either 8:00am – 11:00am or 12:00pm to 3:00pm. You may enter any time during your designated slot and stay as long as you’d like. Right now, the park closes at 5:00pm. We hiked the Mt. Britton Trail & Tower. It is a 1.6 mile hike, has a marked trailhead and most of the hike is paved. Bring a rain jacket & wear hiking boots. There are rain shelters and benches along the hike. The tower is climbable and provides great views at the top. Parking is limited along the road.
Kayak the Fajardo Bioluminescent Bay (Night Tour)
Hours: Open Daily Night Tours are at 6:30pm & 8:45pm (May 2021)
Cost: $55.00 per person for a tandem kayak
Total time: 2 hours

Booked directly through the site. Kayaking Puerto Rico offers options of various tours from bioluminescent bay tours to snorkeling tours. We kayaked to Laguna Grande. Due to the pandemic & rules in Puerto Rico, they cancelled our 8:45pm tour & pushed us to the 6:30pm time slot. The tour was a bit crowded with our group as well as many other companies on the water but the bioluminescent bay was amazing! You cannot swim in this bay.

Cost: $10.00 for parking includes entry fee.

This park features two waterfalls. The first waterfall has an entrance as soon as you enter the park with stairs that lead down to a beautiful l viewpoint and then the falls. This waterfall has a rope to climb up & jump off the side. The second is about a 10-minute hike on a paved sidewalk. This waterfall has a rope swing which was really fun!

We visited Old San Juan for a day, but you could easily spend a couple here. We explored both forts, Castillo San Cristobal & Castillo San Felipe del Morro. The fort provides views of the Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery. There are endless shops, restaurants and bars in Old San Juan however, we did find many were closed due to the pandemic.
Hike Surfer’s Beach to Survival Beach
Hours: Open Daily (No set hours)
Cost: Free!
Total time: Up to you!

Surfer’s beach is located off the coast in Aguadilla. You can choose to walk along the beach to Survival beach or you can take the 15 minute scenic hike through the forest. The landscape makes for beautiful pictures and fun exploration but there are not too many places to swim as the water was bit rough. Make sure you wear tennis shoes if you’re going to hike as the trail is a bit rough.
Cueva del Indio
Hours: Open Daily (No set hours)
Cost: $5.00 per person (includes parking)

Located in Arecibo just a couple hours west of San Juan. This park is only $5.00 per person and includes free secured parking. This park features the ancient cavern as well as the seven arch’s which are great for hiking! The cave’s ladder has since been destroyed in the hurricanes so the only way into the cave is through a crevice in the wall. We also found a tide-pool after hiking past several arches. We spent about 6 hours total at the park!
Bonus things to do:
El Salto Collazo. This waterfall is free along the side of Highway 111. Unfortunately, it was saturated with trash, but the falls was gorgeous and refreshing stop if you’re in San Sebastian.
Explore Ruinas del Faro. This is a beautiful abandoned historical site just off of the Punta Borinquen Beach. We visited mid-day and there was not anyone else around. Free to explore & has great views of the beach below. Free parking along the sides of the ruins.
Snorkel Crash Boat Beach. This is a nice beach on the coast in Aguadilla. Unfortunately, it rained while we were here but we did see angel fish & other tropical fish in the water.
Trash pick-up. Be sure to bring eco-friendly trash bags to pick up trash where you explore and help us leave the places we visit better than we found it!
Puerto Rico, Toa Baja
El municipio de Toa Baja se conoce como la ciudad llanera, debido las grandes extensiones de tierras llanas que caracterizan su territorio. También se conoce como la ciudad bajo aguas, la ciudad de los valles del Toa. Limita con los municipios de Dorado, Toa Alta, Cataño y Bayamón; y al norte con el Océano Atlántico.
Sus tierras llanas y fértiles se usan desde su fundación para la agricultura. El año de fundación es debatido por diferentes historiadores, pero algunos señalan que fue en el año 1745, otros dicen que unos años más tarde. Sin embargo, su importancia como lugar para el crecimiento de vegetales traídos de Europa y su función como la primera estación agrícola experimental de la Isla es fehaciente.
Para finales del siglo XVI, Toa Baja tenía una gran actividad agrícola y ganadera, la cual atrajo a numerosos pobladores, siendo los primeros provenientes de las Islas Canarias. Para el 1878, Toa Baja contaba con cuatro haciendas de caña con máquinas de vapor y trapiches. La central Constancia fundada en el 1897 de 450 cuerdas de siembra de caña estuvo operando hasta el año 1962. El cultivo de la caña estuvo activo hasta mediados de la década de 1970, Este municipio también se destacaba por la presencia de vaquerías de primera clase en sus tierras. Gracias a sus tierras fértiles este municipio fue uno de los principales proveedores de los alimentos para San Juan impulsando así su desarrollo económico.
La iglesia que se encuentra en el pueblo es una de las más antiguas de Puerto Rico, construida en el 1759 como parroquia, bajo la advocación de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, San Pedro y San Matías. Actualmente está dedicada a San Pedro Apóstol.
En el año 1963 comienza la construcción de Levittown, siendo una de las urbanizaciones planificadas más grande de Puerto Rico y desarrollada por Levitt & Sons para familias de clase media.
Sus barrios son: Candelaria, Media Luna, Palo Seco, Sabana Seca y Toa Baja Pueblo.
Según el censo del año 2020 Toa Baja tenía 75.293 habitantes.

Poris de Candelaria, La Palma (4K)
Poris de Candelaria is one of the most amazing places in all of La Palma. a hidden hamlet hidden inside a massive sea cave. You access Poris de Candeleria from Tijarafe town, its a short but steep drive down to the carpark. from there its a 10 minute walk to the village. Poris de Candeleria is historically a fishing area. There are a group of maybe 20-40 homes built into the cliff and cave. its a unique sight to behold. You can also swim here when the water is calm, there are several ladders where you can access the water.

CATALONIA PUNTA DEL REY TENERIFE
A brief tour of the lovely CATALONIA PUNTA DEL REY TENERIFE.
We stayed for a week in March 2018. The food was excellent, staff were very polite and professional. The average temperature was 23 degrees c over the week, reaching 26 one day!
I have also featured the hotels solaria over the road, which is adults only and great for sunbathing.
The safe in the room is 18 Euro per week with a 10 Euro deposit.
It is a great location with Santa Cruz only 20mins away on the local bus, costing only 2 Euros 10c per person.
