????????[4K] RONDA Spain Amazing City Walking Tour in May 2023 | Málaga, Andalucía

Ronda is one of the most spectacular villages that you can get. Sitting high above a gorge, on a rugged rock plateau, it is adjoined by the photogenic stone bridge called Puente Nuevo, 120m high that took over 40 years to be built.

One of Spain’s oldest towns, Ronda was first settled by the Celts and later inhabited by the Romans and Moors. It was a favourite with the 19th century Viajeros Romanticos (romantic travellers) – artists and writers like Orson Welles, Alexander Dumas and Ernest Hemingway who searched for inspiration in Europe’s most unspoilt destinations.

No doubt Ronda is a must visit city when in Andalusia, being so close to Seville or Málaga (1,5h-2h drive).

????????[4K] Cómpeta Spain Beautiful White Village | Málaga, Axarquía | March 2023

Hills covered with vines and beautiful mountain landscapes welcomes the traveler arriving in Cómpeta.

Cómpeta is a town and municipality in the comarca of Axarquía and province of Málaga, part of the autonomous community of Andalusia in southern Spain. The municipality is situated approximately 18 kilometres from the coast (Costa del Sol), and 52 kilometres from Málaga, the provincial capital.

It is a charming flower bedecked old town with its main centre, the Plaza Almijara, dominated by a magnificent sixteenth century church. This bustling square is one of the best places to enjoy a break with a choice of several bars and restaurants.

Cómpeta is fascinating to explore with its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets that date back to Moorish times.

Along with the impressive views, people also know Cómpeta for its quality local products that includes almonds, honey or tropical fruits, but their main crops are grapevines and olive groves.

Local dishes that stand out are the migas, fennel stew, garlic pork loin, choto, asada a lo pastoril or potajes de vigilia.

Located seven hundred metres above sea level with stunning views of the surrounding mountains, countryside and Mediterranean Sea, Cómpeta is best known to many for its locally produced wine, available both dry and sweet, as well as being plentiful and cheap. One of the most popular annual fiestas here is the Noche del Vino (Night of the Wine) on the 15th August which features a programme of flamenco and sevillana music and dance, plus plenty of free-flowing vino.

Cascada El Saltillo, Canillas de Aceituno, Málaga

Cascada El Saltillo, Canillas de Aceituno, Málaga, Spain.
Marzo 2022.

This is Campillos' most significant monument. It was built in the early 16th century (1506), although it was heavily restored in the 18th and 19th centuries, the most important renovation taking place between 1805 and 1821. As a result, it features a number of different architectural styles, though neoclassicism and Seville baroque are the dominant trends.
The church is of the Doric variety, with two stone façades, the main one built in baroque style, the other in the Doric tradition, which are considered to be among the most spectacular to be found in the region. The main façade is the work of Antonio Matías de Figueroa and is laid out in the manner of an altarpiece, with a dinteled bay whose keystone houses a sculpture of the Virgin and Child, pilasters with semi-circular shafts, scroll entablature, burnished streaked marble supported by stone blocks and a projecting cornice with pinnacles at each end.
The building is of rectangular ground plan with three naves, a main chapel, 17th century tower-belfry, sacristy and chapels along the walls of the Gospel nave. The central nave, which is marked out by round pillars, is covered by a half-barrel vault, while the other two feature arris vaults. Alongside the pillars, Ionic pilasters support a denticulated entablature which runs horizontally across the walls of the naves and the presbytery.
The main altar consists of a pinewood tabernacle with eight Ionic columns of imitation marble and jasper dominated by a 17th century carving of Nuestra Señora del Reposo from the Granada school.
In September 2004, the Andalusian Regional Government declared the church an item of cultural interest, establishing a protection order around it that includes public and private areas of Calle San Sebastián, Calle Benito Luna, Calle Real, Calle Santa Ana and Calle Donantes de Sangre, as well as Plaza de España and Plaza Gallego Cuéllar.

Caminito del Rey by drone, El Choro, ANDALUSIA - Ścieżka Króla | SPAIN ????????

El Caminito del Rey (The King's Little Path) is a walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Ardales in the province of Málaga, Spain. The name derives from the original name of Camino del Rey (King's Pathway), abbreviated locally to el caminito. The walkway had fallen into disrepair and was partially closed for over a decade. After four years of extensive repairs and renovations, it re-opened in 2015. It has been known in the past as the world's most dangerous walkway following five deaths in 1999 and 2000.

The walkway was built to provide workers at the hydroelectric power plants at Chorro Falls and Gaitanejo Falls with a means to cross between them, to provide for transport of materials, and to help facilitate inspection and maintenance of the channel. The construction began in 1901 and was finished in 1905. King Alfonso XIII crossed the walkway in 1921 for the inauguration of the dam Conde del Guadalhorce, and it became known by its present name. The walkway is 1 metre in width and rises over 100 metres above the river below.
