Hi everybody! Guess where we are now? Ha ha, we got absolutely inspired by Bulgaria. So this morning without planning so much, we just took the bridge that connects Bulgaria (Vidin) to Romania (Calafat) and we crossed it! We are in Romania, guys!
What to do in Orșova?
Orșova is ancient and full of history. It seemed to us a quiet and nice city to relax in. Most sites on the Internet consider it only as a starting point to enjoy the surroundings but barely talk about Orșova itself.
In our opinion, Orșova can be a nice stop for a day trip or for relaxing for a complete weekend. You can easily spend a day here and explore the surroundings the very next day or vice versa. There’s accommodation available in the city and it’s cheaper than the one you can get in the surroundings (along the Danube). The city has a quiet vibe that for sure gets a bit more vibrant and noisy during the high season.
The attractions in the city that we enjoyed the most were the promenade and the park.
Chipuil Lui Decebal or the Face of Decebalus.
Yes, guys! We got it! Finally, we managed to reach our original goal and it felt very nice. The head is impressive just like the landscape that frames it. The view can’t be better, the Danube plus the Carpathian Mountains, and the carved face on the rock of Decebalus.
The creation of the head was Iosif Constantin Dragan’s idea. He directly financed it and Florin Cotarcea was the artist who made it. It’s 25 meters wide and 40.5 meters high, and it’s located close to the Mraconia Bay, 18 kilometers away from Orșova. Check your map and it’s between Eșelnița and Dubova. Something we discovered is that the head is not ancient like other historical treasures in the area. Its construction started in 1994 and it was finished in 2004. Yes, Florin Cotarcea worked 10 years directing the carving with the assistance of at least a dozen of climbers and a ton of dynamite for modeling. Under the head, you will see this inscription: “Decebalus
Rex – Dragan done” (king Decebalus – made by Dragan).
Decebalus was the last king of Dacia. He defended the independence of his country (the current territory of Romania) from Trajan and Domitian, both Roman emperors.
Guys, we looked long for finding the rocky face of Decebalus. When we found it we felt very happy. We visited it in daylight and at night! As we told you before, you can reach this place by boat or by car.

Bine ati (re)venit pe canalul nostru!
Dupa o carantina binemeritata ca urmare a revenirii in tara, ne-am hotarat sa ne facem o vacanta pe Dunare. Asa ca drumurile ne-au dus in sud-vestul Romaniei, sa exploram si aceasta parte a tarii. Am inceput cu Port Cultural Cetate, care este un loc cu incarcatura istorica indelungata, fiind fostul port agricol, al doilea port ca marime din tara. Negustori din toata Europa veneau pe Dunare cu vapoarele si cumparau graul si porumbul romanesc. Se zvoneste ca in vremurile interbelice, croissantele de la Viena era facute din grau romanesc. Cladirile istorice s-au pastrat si astazi servesc ca unitati de cazare sau loc de luat masa. Peisajul este fabulos, fiind amplasat pe malul Dunarii la o distanta considerabila fata de sosea si agitatia lumii.
De acolo am mers in Calafat, care se afla la o aruncatura de bat, si unde am vizitat, spunem noi, cea mai frumoasa cladire din Calafat - Palatul Marincu. Construit la inceputul secolului XX, astazi este sediul Muzeului de Arta si Etnografie din Calafat, care gazduieste impresionante colectii de arta, unde puteti vedea opera lui Nicolae Grigorescu, Henri Catargi sau Theodor Pallady. In salonul central, unde in trecut se organizau baluri si se auzea orchestra, astazi au loc diverse evenimente culturale.
Dupa o scurta vizita si la gara feroviara din Calafat, am hotarat sa mergem mai departe spre Drobeta Turnu Severin unde in prima seara am vizita piciorul Podului lui Traian, care se afla in plina reconditionare si am gasit mai mult o constructie acoperita cu pelicule si schele. Dar dimineata am reusit sa vizitam si Muzeul Regiunii Portilor de Fier de unde am avut o perspectiva mai frumoasa asupra locului.
In cazul in care vreti sa mancati ceva, va recomandam Kripton Pub&Grill pentru preparatele delicioase si servicii de nota 10, si chiar in imediata vecinatate se afla Castelul de Apa.

Podul Calafat-Vidin sau Vidin-Calafat (bulgară Мост Видин-Калафат) este un pod feroviar și rutier în curs de construire pe Dunăre, care va conecta orașele Calafat (România) și Vidin (Bulgaria). Podul este parte a coridorului paneuropean de transport care leagă orașul german Dresda de orașul Istanbul din Turcia[4].
În Bulgaria, podul este mai cunoscut sub numele Podul peste Dunăre 2 (bulgară Дунав мост 2).
Acest pod va fi cel de-al doilea pod pe Dunăre care conectează România și Bulgaria. Proiectul de construire a unui pod în zona Calafat-Vidin datează din anul 1925.

Am vizitat FARURILE de la MAREA NEAGRA | Povestile nestiute ale FARURILOR din Romania
De la partie la mare, am zis sa vizitam litoralul daca tot s-a incalzit timpul.
Am facut o lista cu farurile de pe litoralul Marii Negre si am zis sa vizitam o parte din ele. Incepand cu Mangalia si avand ca “statie terminus” orasul Constanta.
In Mangalia ne-a surprins in mod placut portul in care erau multe ambarcatiuni care mai de care interesante si cel mai cochet far vizitat de noi pana acum. Faleza nu era aglomerata, plimbarea pana la far placuta si locul instagramabil :D (drept dovada si pozele facute).
De aici am plecat spre Tuzla unde speram sa vizitam farul, avand o arhitectura mai industriala. Acesta face parte dintr-un obiectiv militar, asa ca nu se poate vizita sau fotografia si ne-am multumit cu o plimbare pe plaja pustie si am dat de doua bunkere din timpul celui de-al doilea razboi mondial.
Un pic dezamagiti, ne-am pornit in Constanta unde, nu stiam ce ne asteapta - o dezamagire si mai mare. Din 4 faruri cate ne-am propus sa vizitam, 3 sunt in cadrul portului militar Constanta si nu se pot vizita. Chiar daca Farul Carol apare ca muzeu, nu ni s-a permis sa intram, asa ca nu are rost sa va planificati vizita pana acolo. Asa ca in restul serii ne-am plimbat pe faleza cazinoului si am ajuns la “batranul” far genovez care vegheaza statuia lui Eminescu.

????️ Ξεκινήσαμε την απόλυτη περιπέτεια με μοτοσικλέτα από την Ελλάδα στη Ρουμανία! ???? Καθώς βγήκαμε στο δρόμο, βυθιστήκαμε στην ομορφιά των διαφορετικών τοπίων, από τις ηλιόλουστες παραλίες της Ελλάδας μέχρι τα μαγευτικά Καρπάθια Όρη της Ρουμανίας. ????
Ετοιμαστείτε για συναρπαστικές στροφές, συναρπαστικά περάσματα στα Καρπάθια όρη και αξέχαστες περιηγήσεις στα κάστρα της Τρανσυλβανίας. ???? Ελάτε μαζί μας σε αυτό το επικό ταξίδι, και δείτε μέσα από τα δικά μας μάτια τη μαγεία που προσφέρει η οδήγηση της μοτοσικλέτας μέσα σε αυτά τα εκπληκτικά τοπία !!! ????????????????
Το ταξίδι μας θα διήρκησε 12 ημέρες και θα καλύψαμε μια απόσταση 5.000 χιλιομέτρων περίπου.
3️⃣ Ημέρα. ????
Ξεκινήσαμε από τo Vidin της Βουλγαρίας όπου διανυκτερεύσαμε και την επόμενη μέρα συνεχίσαμε για Targu Jiu στη Ρουμανία. Η απόσταση είναι περίπου 220 χλμ. Επιλέξαμε το Δούναβη να τον περάσουμε από γέφυρες και όχι με πλοιάριο τύπου παντόφλας, αποφεύγοντας έτσι την αναμονή του πλοίου, της αποβίβασης και κατάβασης από το πλοίο. Παρόλα αυτά και στους αυτοκινητόδρομους δεν λείπουν τα απρόοπτα.????♂️

4️⃣ Ημέρα .????
Targu Jiu - Sibiu μέσω Transalpinas. Η απόσταση είναι περίπου 210χλμ.
Στο Targu Jiu επισκεφτήκαμε την συλλογή γλυπτών που κατασκεύασε ο Ρουμάνος Constantin Brâncuși το 1938 και θεωρείται ένα από τα πιο σπουδαία έργα της υπαίθριας γλυπτικής του 20ού αιώνα.

Το τραπέζι της σιωπής, (The Silent Table)
Και την πύλη του φιλιού (The Gate Of The Kiss)
Είναι ένας φόρος τιμής στους Ρουμάνους ήρωες του πρώτου παγκοσμίου πολέμου που υπερασπίστηκαν το Tirgu Jiu το 1916 από την εισβολή των Κεντρικών δυνάμεων.
Ο λόγος που επιλέξαμε να μείνουμε στο Targu Jiu, είναι ότι θα ήμασταν κοντά στα Καρπάθια όρη και θα είχαμε περισσότερο χρόνο την επόμενη ημέρα να τα διασχίσουμε, οδηγώντας τη μηχανή μας στα όρη Parag, στην πανέμορφη διαδρομή Τransalpina.
????⛰️ Το ψηλότερο σημείο είναι το Pass Urdele με 2.145μ.
Ο αυτοκινητόδρομος είναι συνήθως κλειστός τον Νοέμβριο ή τον Δεκέμβριο λόγω της έντονης χιονόπτωσης και των επικίνδυνων συνθηκών οδήγησης που θα μπορούσαν να δημιουργηθούν. Ανοίγει από τα μέσα Μαΐου έως τα μέσα Οκτωβρίου (ανάλογα με τον καιρό) και μόνο κατά τη διάρκεια της μέρας (08:00-20:00)
Στη συνέχεια περνώντας από διάφορα γραφικά χωριουδάκια καταλήγουμε στο Sibiu όπου θα διανυκτερεύσαμε.
Την όμορφη πόλη του Sibiu θα τη δούμε στο επόμενο επεισόδιο.

Romania to Bulgaria Border Crossing
July 23, 2021 ** Crossing the international border between Romania and Bulgaria via the Giurgiu Friendship Bridge over the Danube River.
The Danube Bridge (also known as the Friendship Bridge) is a steel truss bridge over the Danube River connecting the Bulgarian bank to the south with the Romanian bank to the north and the cities of Ruse and Giurgiu respectively. It is one of only two bridges connecting Romania and Bulgaria, the other one being the New Europe Bridge between the cities of Vidin and Calafat.
Opened on June 20, 1954 and designed by Soviet engineers, the bridge is 2,223 m (7,295 ft) long and was, at the time, the only bridge over the Danube shared by Bulgaria and Romania, with other traffic being served by ferries and land routes. Decorations were designed by Bulgarian architect Georgi Ovcharov. The bridge has two decks - a two lane motorway (on top) and a railway (below).
Sidewalks for pedestrians are also included (I saw several backpackers making the long walk).
The central part of the bridge (85 m) is mobile and can be lifted for oversized boats passage. The maintenance of the mobile part is Romania's responsibility and is periodically checked. The bridge was constructed in two and a half years with the aid of the Soviet Union.
The Soviets named it the Friendship Bridge, but, since the fall of the communist regimes in both countries, the bridge got the more functional name of Danube Bridge.
Border control stations are present on the bridge, due to its serving as a border crossing between the two countries. Since January 2007 there is no more customs control and the passport/identity card control is done on one desk either by the Bulgarian or the Romanian border police, being an internal border within the European Union. Border control will be completely removed when (if?) Bulgaria and Romania join the Schengen Agreement.
Since neither Bulgaria or Romania are part of the Euro economic zone, there are also several money exhchange booths on both sides of the river to exchange Romania lei for Bulgarian lev.
Bulgaria is my 159th country to visit. Trip note: I took a day trip and shared the costs with 3 other travelers from Bucharest to the ancient Bulgarian capital of Veliko Tarnovo - using the excellent services of Mr. Tripp in Bucharest.

Veterani Cave:Famous both for its legend and for its more unusual and somewhat adventurous access - made only on water, the Veterani Cave has its name after the one who was Ianovici's aide, the commander of the Austrian army stationed at Caransebes and who fortified the cave at end of the seventeenth century.
The Veterans Cave has always been in the attention of treasure hunters around the world, who claim that the famous silver treasure of Empress Maria Theresa belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the treasures of the Serbian Tsar Obrenovici were hidden in a cave with rocks. It is said that in Cuza's time, Obranovici, the prince of Serbia, who had quarreled with his brother, Mihai, crossed into Romania with 80 horses carrying bags of gold. All Serbian soldiers who brought this treasure, after it was hidden, were killed. It is also said that the only indication of where the treasure is, is a stone on which a snake is inlaid.
There is also talk of the treasures of the Basarab people, of which the abbot Nicodemus, himself a descendant of the family, would have taken part to build the monastery at Tismana, and the rest of the treasure would have hidden him in a cave in the Danube Gorge.
The legends of the place say that, in the cave, the Dacians had for a long time an altar where they worshiped Zamolxis and in whose honor they made sacrifices, thus explaining the bones of birds and animals discovered by archaeologists in several places dug in stone.
