Riding From Palma To Sóller On The 110-Year-Old Vintage Train (The 'Ferrocarril') | Mallorca, Spain

The 110-year-old 'Ferrocarril de Sollér' is one of Spain's most unique and lovely old trains, which carries passengers from Mallorca's capital, Palma de Mallorca, up to the popular town of Sóller, deep in a valley surrounded by citrus groves.

This stunning old vintage train is, without doubt, the most enjoyable way to reach Sóller from Palma. Sure, the highway and tunnel are faster, but who's in a rush in Mallorca?! Just cough up the 18 Euros required to travel one way, grab yourself a seat (or stand between carriages as I like to do), and enjoy chugging along through the beautiful Mallorca countryside with the warm breeze in your hair.

Traveling from Palma de Mallorca to Sóller on the vintage train (also known as the 'Ferrocarril de Sollér') takes around an hour (and a glorious one at that), and makes a variety of stops to pick up passengers along the way. There is one specific stop, however, to grab a photo of Sóller Town from above, against a stunning Tramuntana Mountain backdrop. After you've climbed back aboard the old wooden vintage train, it will snake down into Sóller, where you can jump off and continue your adventure... either by looking around charming Sóller Town, or hopping straight onto one of the trams that ferries passengers between town and the picturesque Port de Sóller, about 15 minutes away by rail (one hour on foot).

If you plan on booking a return ticket from Palma, you can book it online here:

...otherwise, to travel one way from Palma to Sóller, you'll need to purchase your ticket at the station in Palma. The train does fill up, so try to grab your tickets a decent amount of time in advance of travel (I took the 10:10am train, and bought my tickets at 9am with no problem).

To buy a ticket for the tram between Sóller and the port, just purchase it on board the tram (they depart ever 30 minutes, all day, and at the time of publishing this video it was 7 Euros).

-Jardines de Alfabia in Bunyola/Soller.

Musik:

Luis Fonsi – Despacito (Instrumental Version)
Alvaro Soller – Sofia & El Mismo So

Mallorca Travel: Great Panorama in the Mountain Town of Bunyola

Spain - one of my favourite countries.... One destination I have wanted to explore for a long time is the beautiful island of Mallorca. So from May 20 to 31, 2009 I had the opportunity to get to know a good portion of this special Mediterranean island.

Popular as a package tourism destination since the 1960s, I was more interested in Mallorca's natural and cultural treasures which can be found away from the massive hotel developments that dominate some parts of the coastline. My favourite area of the island became the north: the rugged, relatively untouched Serra de Tramuntana mountain chain that runs along the islands north coast from east to west.

With my little rental car I was able to get into the tiniest villages and I ended up visiting virtually every major settlement on the Costa Nord. My favourite spot become Soller, a popular tourist town in the heart of the Tramuntana region, which has long been famous for its citrus plantations and its position among Mallorca's highest mountains. The Puig Major reaches an altitude of 1,445 metres (over 4700 feet) and Soller is embedded in a wide valley surrounded by majestic mountains. Soller is also the final terminal of the Palma to Soller vintage electric train. In addition, Soller is connected with a historic streetcar to the harbour town of Port de Soller which lies about 4 km away.

Some of my other favourites included Pollenca and Cap Formentor on the east side of the island; Banyalbufar and Sa Calobra on the steep, picturesque northern coast; Sant Elm, on the extreme western side of the island, a village that offers a great view of Sa Dragonera, the Dragon's Island; and Valdemossa, a very pretty village just a few kilometres inland from the coast, in the northern mountain area. Other country excursions included Inca, Mallorca's leather manufacturing town; Alaro, a gorgeous little mountain town; and various towns on the western side of the island, such as Puigpunyent, Galilea, Andratz and Calvia.

I also explored the eastern and southern coastlines of the island, including the historic walled city of Alcudia, the impressive medieval castles of Arta and Capdepera, and the scenic coves of Cala Rajada and Porto Cristo. Of course, a few visits to the capital of Palma de Mallorca were also part of my program. I thoroughly enjoyed the old downtown with its narrow alleyways and cobble-stoned streets. La Seu, the imposing Gothic Cathedral, is simply breathtaking, and I had the good fortune to be inside the church when there was an organ concert.

Palma has so many beautiful sights, which include the Palau de l'Almudaina, the Consolat de Mar, the gorgeous Parc de la Mar on the waterfront, and the round Gothic Castell de Bellver, which dates back to the early 1300s. For me Mallorca turned out to be a dream destination that offers near perfect weather, amazing landscapes, great recreational opportunities on land and at sea, and fabulous history and culture. I am sure I will make it back there again...

Sóller, Mallorca | Guided Tour 2022

Sóller, Mallorca, in the UNESCO Tramuntana Mountains, is one of the most popular and lovely towns to visit on the island.

In this guided tour (filmed 2022), I arrive by the historic 'Ferrocarril de Sóller' (the vintage wooden train carrying passengers from Palma), wander around Placa de la Constitucion (Sóller's main square), check out St Bartholemew's Chapel, stroll the shaded streets, and then get quite annoyed with a sandwich which is impossible to eat unless you can unhinge your jaw like a python.

Sóller, Mallorca, is a place I've only briefly zipped around in the past, so it was really enjoyable to spend a long afternoon here with no real agenda - other than making this video, of course ;) If you've never been before, Sóller most definitely has a touch of class, and as an affluent part of Mallorca, you'll enjoy the chilled, ever-so-slightly monied vibe that everyone seems to have here. I certainly enjoyed an hour of people-watching as I dismantled my ridiculous sandwich into parts consumable by a human with a normal-sized mouth.

If you enjoyed this Sóller, Mallorca Guided Tour 2022, please give it a LIKE, leave me a COMMENT, and please consider SUBSCRIBING! It's free to do so on YouTube, and if you want to be notified next time I upload a video, hit that little BELL icon as well, and then select 'ALL'. That way, you'll get a nudge when my next video goes live.

I had a lovely time in Sóller, and a lot of fun doing this guided tour... and I hope to see you soon on the next video from Mallorca, Spain!

Valldemossa, Mallorca | The ULTIMATE Guide (2020)

Valldemossa, Mallorca, is the most famous and arguably most lovely village on the whole island, perched atop a peak in the dramatic Tramuntana Mountains. Fancy a tour? Well, come on then!

Valldemossa, Mallorca, was stuck on the map way back when by the composer Chopin, who traveled up to the idyllic hilly pueblito with a lady writer friend called George. They had a rubbish time (more on that in the video), but I'll bet the ranch you won't have when you visit. Valldemossa is a staggeringly beautiful spot, with breathtaking views, and the quaintest atmosphere you can imagine... and all this a mere 20 minutes from Palma by bus or car.

Mallorca's Tramuntana range - a UNESCO world heritage site - is home to many gorgeous little villages and towns, but Valldemossa is the most famous of them all for a reason! So go on, watch this video to the end, give it a like (if you like it), don't forget to subscribe to my channel (no pressure) and make sure to take a trip to Valldemossa next time you're in beautiful Mallorca!

The Lluc Sanctuary - an extremely important and equally beautiful monastery in the Tramuntana - is another mountainous spot very worth while checking out, and you can stay the night if you're lazy and get a bit pissed like I did (yes, they have a bar - we're in Spain for God's sake!). Check out my silly but extremely informative guide to the Lluc Sanctuary here, a truly historic and very serene place on the island:
