10 Best Seaside Towns in the UK

What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

Places to see in ( Ottery St Mary - UK )

Places to see in ( Ottery St Mary - UK )

Ottery St Mary, known as Ottery, is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about 10 miles east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of West Hill, Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John and Wiggaton, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898. There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural & Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the above census was 9,022. Ottery is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as 'Otri' and 'Otrei'. 'Oteri Sancte Marie' is first mentioned in 1242. The town takes its name from the River Otter on which it stands, the river taking its name from the animal. The 'St Mary' element refers to the fact that the town belonged to the church of St Mary in Rouen in 1086.

The town was the birthplace of the Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, where his father, the Reverend John Coleridge, was a vicar. The diplomat Sir Ernest Satow spent his retirement (1906–29) here at a house called Beaumont, which still stands. Sir Ernest was buried in the churchyard; there is a commemorative plaque to him in the church.

Ottery's notable buildings include the Tumbling Weir and St Mary's church. The town is the site of The King's School, now a comprehensive school, a former grammar school founded in 1545 by Henry VIII, and Ottery St Mary Primary School.

The town as it now stands, comprises of several independent shops, mainly in Mill Street, Silver Street and Yonder Street. An area known as 'The Square', is the heart of Ottery St Mary. There are pubs, restaurants, coffee and tea rooms. Ottery provides services, employment and a wide range of shopping for local residents as well as visitors from nearby villages, towns and often visitors coming from further afield and abroad. Historical Features are within walking distance from parking areas allowing residents and visitors to enjoy both history and shopping together.

Until 1967 the town was served by Ottery St Mary railway station, which was closed under the Beeching Axe. The line ran from Sidmouth Junction on the main line from Exeter to Waterloo to the north of Ottery and to Sidmouth and Exmouth to the south. The line split just south of Tipton St John, near the Bowd Inn. The first line to go was the Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton line, which originally connected to the Exeter line. Subsequently the line from Sidmouth to Sidmouth Junction was closed under Beeching. For many years the path of the railway, with the rails removed, remained in place, with evidence of the railway gates at places such as north of Cadhay Bridge.

( Ottery St Mary - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Ottery St Mary . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ottery St Mary - UK

Budleigh Salterton beach and wetlands from above | Devon

#budleigh #devonbeaches #visitdevon
The Budleigh bird wetland area is featured in this video as well as Budleigh Salterton beach.
Devon beaches are a breath taking experience especially if you experience them in all their glory. Budleigh Salterton is a wonderful small town located in East Devon. We are lucky enough to say that both our families are located in and around this area of outstanding natural beauty. Budleigh Salterton has an extensive bird reserve situated at the mouth of the River Otter, shown in the video. Birds of various species attract twitchers from all over to come and admire them from hides found near the tall trees.
Budleigh is a pebble beach situated on the Jurassic coastline. The cliffs are made from clay and can be prone to landslides. Sometimes the sea itself can change colour from beautiful clear water to a clay tinge which can also be caused by the outlet of the river otter.
We came back to visit family and friends in January 2022 and decided to rent a house backing onto the beach itself, wonderful!
There are many cafes to enjoy the views and tuck into delicious choices of cake and coffee, some have even set up shop on the pebbles right next to the sea!
We hope you enjoy our video and Subscribe to our channel.

A Matty’s drive with us production 10/09/22 Budleigh Salterton real time Devon coast West Country UK

Please click the 3 little dots at the top of the Screen and choose highest quality as we always upload a high quality video.

Welcome to Matty’s diaries. Matty is a 15 year old complex character from the English Riviera who just so happens to be my son. Matty started time-lapsing and recording at the beginning of his isolation in March 2020. I have no idea where the idea came from, he just grabbed his IPad one day and started recording his jigsaw progress. This then expanded to diamond paintings, Lego and then our drives out. They became a way of Matty giving his news to loved ones and school friends who he no longer saw. As of today 16.10.2021 writing this update we have been isolating/Shielding 589 days so far. Matty’s just had his first vaccine and we hope to get him back to school in January once staff have retrained. Wrap around care is just me (Tracey) and Mattys dad Mike. I do the waking night shifts and sleep in the morning, this has given me hours of lonely time during the night to edit Matty’s creations and try and make them watchable. It’s almost become a therapy for Matty and I. I’m not going to list Matty’s health record but take away the obvious artificial airway he actually has more complex issues you can’t see. He is really a very innocent, unworldly 4-5 year old who thrives on routine and positive praise. So please be kind, we never imagined that anyone other than family would ever see the videos and to be honest the family stopped watching and commenting a long long time ago. However we have made some lovely YouTube friends who have been such a huge part of Matty’s shielding life. Each day Matty checks his comments to look for his regular viewers who he has come to rely on. They make him happy. Matty cannot reply to comments independently so as much as he reads them every night, I reply with him once or twice a week. We are grateful.
Matty’s drives are split in to smaller parts which makes them easier to find when he sends his weekly links to his class mates.
At this moment in time Matty is home schooled 5 mornings a week for 2 hours by his favourite TA from school, this stops and starts depending on Matty’s wellbeing and on covid/illness in school. This takes place In the garden or behind perspex to keep matty safe. The school have been amazing and we are very lucky.
Any questions please just ask me, I’m happy to answer. We travel within a 2 hour radius of Torbay and are happy to drive somewhere on request, it gives Matty a task and he loves a task.
Matty is in the van with headphones on watching/Listening to his beloved carnival dvds. It’s his happy place, the only place he doesn’t tic, rock, pick and pace. It’s also the closest Mike and I get to down time as Matty will be relaxed and not have any anxiety.
At the moment we stay in the van driving and people watching, rarely get out, Matty in general refuses to. We can be out for 3 - 4 hours on a longer drive so we purchased a Porto loo which is a bucket with a lid. Does the job and keeps Matty safe. It really is the basics and smallest things that are keeping us plodding along until we can be with loved ones again.
Seriously be kind please, we really are just winging it and I’m so exhausted that negative stuff effects me, it shouldn’t but it does.
Anyway stay safe, we hope you like our little videos, but if not that’s fine. We made them for Matty so as long as he is happy, life is good.
We watch the videos on tv everyday that we are stuck at home Which Is 90% of the time, they show us the outside world. So not for critics just for us to enjoy and reminisce and share with like minded souls.

Update Matty started his special needs college on the 14th June 2022, It’s going well. ????????????????
