Desde el entorno de Barbate a Caños de Meca y tierra adentro hasta Vejer de la Frontera se extiende uno de los parques naturales menos extensos de Andalucía con unas 5.000 hectáreas, el Parque Natural de la Breña y Marismas del Barbate. En él se distinguen hasta cinco ecosistemas diferentes: marino, acantilado, pinar, marismas y sistemas dunares. Destaca el impresionante Tajo de Barbate que, con más de 100 metros de altura, constituye el acantilado más notorio del Atlántico andaluz.
Se distinguen en sus acantilados, aún erosionados por el agua y el viento, manantiales de agua potable que vierten en pequeñas caletas, son los conocidos caños. Junto a zarzas e higueras crecen plantas típicas de ambientes salinos como almajos, barrillas o siemprevivas. En los huecos de la piedra crían numerosas garcillas bueyeras, grajillas, y la gaviotapatiamarilla, halcón peregrino, vuelvepiedras y zarapito trinador. Entre las rapaces, destacan el águila pescadora, la lechuza y el cernícalo vulgar.
Esta biodiversidad se multiplica en las marismas y lagunas, que cobijan gran número de aves, al ser zona de nidificación y paso de migraciones. Un paseo por su interior nos permitirá fotografiar al ánade real, focha común, pato cuchara, e incluso algún zampullín chico, garza real o imperial. Entre el carrizo se observan avetorillos, ruiseñores bastardos y carriceros comunes.
Otro paisaje característico es el pinar de La Breña. Su intensa repoblación para frenar las dunas móviles lo han convertido en el mayor pinar de Cádiz, del que se aprovechan piñas y piñones. En este lugar, el aroma a pino se mezcla con el de romero y lavanda que, junto con palmito, espino negro e, incluso retama o lentisco, forman el matorral mediterráneo existente. El pinar se extiende hasta bordear el acantilado, donde el pino carrasco convive con bosquetes de sabinas y abundantes enebros. Lo mejor es recorrerlo a caballo, destacando el sendero Torre del Tajo que culmina en una hermosa panorámica. Ésta es una de las torres vigías que en los siglos XV y XVI alertaban sobre naves piratas y que, posteriormente, presenciaron la Batalla de Trafalgar.
From the surroundings of Barbate to Caños de Meca and inland to Vejer de la Frontera, one of the least extensive natural parks in Andalusia extends with some 5,000 hectares, the Breña y Marismas del Barbate Natural Park. Up to five different ecosystems are distinguished: marine, cliff, pine forest, marshes and dune systems. The impressive Tajo de Barbate stands out, which, with more than 100 meters high, constitutes the most notorious cliff in the Andalusian Atlantic.
They are distinguished in their cliffs, still eroded by water and wind, springs of drinking water that pour into small coves, are the well-known pipes. Along with brambles and fig trees, plants typical of salty environments such as almajos, barrillas or evergreens grow. In the hollows of the stone they breed numerous cattle egrets, jackdaws, and the yellow-legged gull, peregrine falcon, stone thrower and whistling curlew. Among the birds of prey, the osprey, the owl and the kestrel stand out.
This biodiversity is multiplied in the marshes and lagoons, which shelter a large number of birds, being a nesting area and passage for migrations. A walk through its interior will allow us to photograph the mallard, coot, spoon duck, and even a small grebe, gray or imperial heron. Among the reed there are little bitters, bastard nightingales and common reed warblers.
Another characteristic landscape is the pine forest of La Breña. Its intense repopulation to stop the mobile dunes has turned it into the largest pine forest in Cádiz, from which pineapples and pine nuts are used. In this place, the aroma of pine is mixed with that of rosemary and lavender that, together with palm hearts, blackthorn and even broom or mastic, form the existing Mediterranean scrub. The pine forest extends until it borders the cliff, where Aleppo pine coexists with juniper groves and abundant junipers. The best thing is to explore it on horseback, highlighting the Torre del Tajo trail that culminates in a beautiful panoramic view. This is one of the watchtowers that in the 15th and 16th centuries alerted to pirate ships and that subsequently witnessed the Battle of Trafalgar.

Torre Tavira is the most important watch tower and one of the most important tourist attractions in Cádiz. It has been the official watchtower of Cádiz since 1778. It is located in the House-Palace of the Marquises of Recaño which is considered one of the best examples of Baroque palatial architecture in the city. This historic building is one of the main attractions when visiting Cádiz. And since it is at the highest point in the old town with a height of 45 meters above sea level, the best panoramic viewpoint is here where you will see the spectacular views of the historical center, the beaches, the port and even some cities in the Bay of Cádiz.
Aside from its amazing viewpoint, other highlights to see here are the Camera Obscura and their exhibition rooms that will tell you more about the history of Cadiz. Their camera obscura is located in the dark room and it has an extraordinary lens system that can reflect real time images of the outdoors. Each session takes place every half hour and lasts 15 minutes and is always accompanied by a guide. These visits are available in German, English, Spanish or French.
