???? ????

???????? BETANZOS is a historic capital located a few kilometers from A Coruña, it is one of the seven capitals that formed the old Kingdom of Galicia, known as the City of Knights. Its fishing and commercial port attracted many bourgeois families who built large manor houses, palaces and churches. Its old town was declared a historic-artistic site in 1970.
It was formerly located at the inner part of the ancient wall that surrounded the city and had five doors. The main one, Porta da Vila, was decorated with three emblems which today are encased in the side of a house. Despite not being preserved, its name is used as the entrance of the historic centre. Nowadays, three doors remain standing: Puerta del Puente Nuevo, Puerta del Puente Viejo and Puerta del Cristo.
Betanzos has two national monuments: the gothic churches of Santa María del Azogue and San Francisco, located in the square of Fernán Pérez de Andrade, “O Boo”.
San Francisco has a Latin cross floor and inside you can find the tombs of the medieval knights that are the most interesting historical-artistic element of the temple’s interior, especially the sarcophagus of Fernán Pérez de Andrade, located at the back of the temple, under the choir, and supported by a bear and a boar.
Santa María de Azogue was built between the second half of the XIV century and the first half of the XV. It has a basilica layout and three naves. The main altarpiece and the capital with the only farming calendar of Galicia stand out.

Spain, El Ferrol Port, Gardens of Pazo de Marina, City of Betanzos, Sept 2021

El Ferrol Sea Port in Spain, the Province of a Coruna, in Galicia, Ferrol is located on the Atlantic Coast in Northwestern Spain. Spanish General Franciso Franco was born here in 1892. And since bagpipes are one of the Traditional instruments in El Ferrol Spain, we were thrilled to see them at the Port. I am cruising with the MSC Cruise Line, single and in my senior years! Ha, Ha! MSC did an outstanding job at keeping everyone safe during the Pandemic, lots of restrictions in place, but I completely appreciated the extra effort this cruise line has put into making cruises available again and keeping everyone safe.
I visited the Pazo de Marinan Gardens, which is located on the banks of the Betanzos and Mandeo rivers, in the area of the province of Coruna called Marinnas dos Condes
The Manor House, also called Palaces has its own Family Chapel. Noblemen back in the day, would surround their Manors with these huge cypress trees so people would know where they lived.
Our Tour Guide was AMAZING! Fluent in Spanish, English, Italian, German
Then it was onto the city of Betanzos. Igrexa de San Francisco or Church of Saint Francis in the historic town Betanzos, Galicia, Spain.
We actually visited three Churches in total, ,
Santa Maria de Azogue
Iglesia de San Francisco
Iglesia de Santiago, The church of Saint James
We also learned about the history of the town and about famous Juan María and Jesús García Naveira, known as the García Brothers Naveira ,
They were Spanish businessmen known and loved for their Charitable works, which included several public facilities, schools and welfare institutions.
We passed by the -Forte de Diana Cazadora --'Diana Cazadora' fountain, in the square 'Hermanos García Naveira' in the town of Betanzos, Galicia, Spain
And stopped for a coffee. Wonderful day out with the MSC Cruise Line Excursion.

BETANZOS MEDIEVAL. A CORUÑA
