10 Best Towns to Live in England - My Subcriber's List

What are the best towns in England? Thank you, so much, dear subscribers, for bearing your minds on my video regarding the 10 best towns to live in England. I have analyzed your opinions about the towns you consider 10 best when living in England is on the balance. Indeed, England is an interesting and diverse country. Offering a variety of living experiences, I understand that different groups of people and individuals will love different features of towns. That necessarily creates different rankings of the towns in England among my subscribers. From the towns you listed as the best towns to live in England, I have compiled this as the 10 best towns to live in England, but in my order since my subscribers have varying orders.
10. Alnwick
Thanks for calling my attention to the market town of Alnwick in Northumberland, of which it’s the traditional county town. This coastal town on the River Aln's southern bank is 55 kilometers north of Newcastle upon Tyne. It's 51 kilometers south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and 8 kilometers inland from the North Sea at Alnmouth.
A lot of things contributed to making Alnwick one of the best towns to live in England. Some of the things that my subscribers saw about this town are its cheap homes, good characters, good transport links, fascinating history, and of course, low crime rates. I have no other choice than to agree with you that this town whose residents believe that living there affords them a fantastic quality of life is one of the best towns in England.
9. Weston-Super-Mare
I love the inclusion of Weston-super-Mare on my subscribers’ list. I found the communities in Weston-Super-Mare so small but the people are quite pleasant. I wholeheartedly join in ranking it among the best places in England. It’s a town with a warm and temperate climate with plenty of rainfall all year round.
For those planning for their retirement, Weston-Super-Mare is a great place due to its relaxing atmosphere and variety of interesting activities at all times of the year. The town has a lot to offer, including its beautiful beach, dozens of entertainment venues where your soul will be treated to good music, comedy, and many more. Home prices are cheap in Weston-Super-Mare also. Therefore, as a family-friendly commuter town with good links to many cities and plenty of shopping opportunities, this is a very good town to live in in England.
8. Frome
I’m happy that you all agree with all I said about the market town of Frome and you added it to your list. In addition to all that I have told you about this town sitting on the eastern flanks of the Mendip Hills which is some 20 kilometers south of the ancient town of Bath and some 172 kilometers west of London, I want to show you some of the things that make Frome one of the loveliest little towns, not only in England but also in the UK as a whole.
It has a vibrant nightlife that gives a justification for its being the fourth largest Somerset town. Also, its education, transportation, and good links will always combine to make it one of the 10 best towns to live in England.

Places to see in ( Berwick upon Tweed - UK )

Places to see in ( Berwick upon Tweed - UK )

Berwick-upon-Tweed is a town in the county of Northumberland. It is the northernmost town in England. Berwick upon Tweed is located 2 ¹⁄₂ miles south of the Scottish border, at the mouth of the River Tweed on the east coast.

Berwick upon Tweed is about 56 miles (90 km) east-south east of Edinburgh, 65 miles (105 km) north of Newcastle upon Tyne and 345 miles (555 km) north of London. Berwick was founded as an Anglo-Saxon settlement during the time of the Kingdom of Northumbria, which was annexed by England in the 10th century.

Berwick remains a traditional market town and also has some notable architectural features, in particular its medieval town walls, its Elizabethan ramparts and Britain's earliest barracks buildings (1717–21 by Nicholas Hawksmoor for the Board of Ordnance).

The old A1 road passes through Berwick. The modern A1 goes around the town to the west. The town is on the East Coast Main Line railway, and has a railway station. A small seaport at Tweedmouth facilitates the import and export of goods, but provides no passenger services. The port is protected by a long breakwater built in the 19th century, at the end of which is a red and white lighthouse. Completed in 1826, the 13 metres (43 ft) tower emits a white light every five seconds from a window overlooking the sea.

Berwick Castle was built in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 1290s. Berwick town walls and Tudor ramparts – some of the finest remaining examples of their type in the country. The Old Bridge, 15-span sandstone arch bridge 1,164 feet (355 m) long, built in 1610.

Holy Trinity Parish Church, unusual for having been built during the Commonwealth of England. Berwick Barracks, built 1717–21, the design attributed to Nicholas Hawksmoor. Dewars Lane Granary, built in 1769, now restored as a hotel and art gallery. Marshall Meadows Country House Hotel, built in 1780 as a country house, is north of the town.

Union Bridge, 5 miles (8 km) upstream, from Berwick, was built in 1821 and is the World's oldest surviving suspension bridge. The Kings Arms Hotel on Hide Hill was built in 1782 and rebuilt in 1845. The Royal Border Bridge, designed by Robert Stephenson and built in 1847. St Andrew's Church, Wallace Green was built in 1859 and is one of only eight Church of Scotland congregations in England.

The Masonic Hall was built in 1872 for the town's St David's Masonic Lodge for £1,800. The Royal Tweed Bridge, built in 1925 to carry the A1 road across the Tweed. Its span is 361 feet (110 m). Dewars Lane runs down Back Street just off Bridge Street.

BERWICK UPON TWEED

BERWICK UPON TWEED, sometimes known as Berwick-on-Tweed or simply Berwick, is a town and civil parish in Northumberland, England.
Also watch our tour of nearby Bamburgh -

Berwick Upon Tweed is Located 2+1⁄2 miles (4 kilometres) south of the Anglo-Scottish border, it is the northernmost town in England.

This border town has a history of being passed between England and Scotland like a hot potato, and Berwick-upon-Tweed’s dominant Town Walls, old prison cells of the Town Hall and winding, cobbled streets hold a complex and violent past.

Berwick Upon Tweed is a fabulous destination for a day out if you're in North East England. Full of tourist attractions, Berwick offers everything from a thriving town centre high street to amazing historic town walls and one of the most scenic river walks in the UK.

The town has passed between England and Scotland on so many occasions and been the location of some really violent and historic moments!

Steeped in history, Berwick on Tweed is now a tourism destination with lots to see and do here and plenty of history to explore from Berwick Town Walls to the remains of Berwick Castle. Other attractions include Berwick Barracks and Berwick Town Hall which are worth a visit!

The Royal Tweed Bridge over the River Tweed is another fascinating feature here worth seeing if you're in the town.

Berwick remains a traditional market town and also has some notable architectural features, in particular its medieval town walls, its Georgian Town Hall, its Elizabethan ramparts, and Britain's earliest barracks buildings

Berwick, along with former fishing village Tweedmouth and the seaside resort of Spittal, historically owes its livelihood to the river. A hub for exports, a centre of a thriving salmon fishing industry from the sixteenth century and a boat-building town from the eighteenth century, it has stone harbour walls and a cobbled quayside beneath the massive ramparts.

The definitive border town, focus of many centuries of warfare between England and Scotland, Berwick has perfectly preserved Elizabethan fortifications, the most complete town defences of its type in Northern Europe, and eighteenth century Barracks that were the first in Britain to be purpose-built. In 2015 Berwick celebrated 900 years of history and heritage with exhibitions, living history, and a programme of exciting events.

Built between and around these iconic historic sites are Georgian buildings of great character, linked by cobbled lanes and narrow archways. This is a town packed with interest and tradition, and even boasts a building which leans even more than the Tower of Pisa - a Granary, now restored as a youth hostel, art gallery and bistro

Berwick-Upon-Tweed is a town in the county of Northumberland. It is the northernmost town in England, at the mouth of the River Tweed on the east coast, 2 1⁄2 miles (4 km) south of the Scottish border.

This short film was taken from an Edinburgh bound train travelling north on the East Coast Main Line as it approaches Berwick-Upon-Tweed in Northumberland. Walking the Walls - Berwick upon Tweed

The walled town of Berwick upon Tweed is a must see and is frequently listed amongst the best walled towns in the UK. A complete circuit of walls can still be navigated with sections of medieval wall as well as the extensive Elizabethan fortifications. This is a gorgeous walk with views across the coast and Tweed estuary.
We were lucky enough to visit following snowfall which gave the walk a beautiful wintry and Christmassy feel. This is a great walk and easy to navigate.

Top 10 Things To Do in Northumberland

My Top 10 Things To Do in Northumberland! In this video, we are exploring the Northumberland National Park, Northumberland Coast AONB and more! your ultimate guide for what to do in Northumberland!

Northumberland is an incredible place, packed full of more castles than any other county in the world, the least dense population of any county in England, and home to some of the most wild, immense and rugged landscapes I've ever seen in England. All these things make Northumberland the perfect place to explore around!

Hadrians Wall Video: Coming Soon (Sunday 15th August)

Top 10 list (in no particular order)

1. Bamburgh Castle - 0:39
Having a history dating back to the year 547, this castle is pretty breathtaking! Epic views from the ramparts and being beautifully renovated by William Armstrong make Bamburgh castle a great place to explore

2. Dunstanburgh Castle - 1:54
Located only 9 miles south of Bamburgh castle, this castle was much less fortunate and is left in ruins today, but the setting is no less epic. there is a 1-mile coastal walk from the town of Craster to access this castle as there is no parking nearby.

3/4/5. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne - 2:39
Lindisfarne Island is packed with things to do but is only accessible at low tide due to the causeway being submerged and the island getting cut off from the mainland. Firstly you can visit Lindisfarne Castle (3:09), you can also see the Boatsheds made from upturned boat hulls, walk along the coastline to the Holy Island War Memorial, explore Lindisfarne Priory, and if it's low tide walk out to St. Cuthberts Island (4:07). we visited Lindisfarne in the evening and it's a great place to catch a sunset.

6. Hadrians Wall - 4:50
Dating all the way back to 122 AD, built by the Roman emperor Hadrian, this wall is 73 miles long and stretches the whole breadth of England. we hiked a 3-mile stretch from Steel Rigg Car Park, Vis Sycamore Gap to Housesteads Roman Fort. Sycamore Gap is the most photographed tree in England and Housesteads fort is the most well preserved roman for on Hadrian's wall! this 3-mile stretch goes through Northumberland National Park and is a great hike!

7. Cragside - 6:10
Our favourite thing to do in Northumberland, Cragside is the first house in the world to be powered by hydroelectricity. As well as this there are so many grounds full of picture-perfect, straight out of a fantasy film scenery that you can explore to your heart's content. Definitely, a must-visit on your holiday in Northumberland!

8. Alnwick - 7:43
home to the famous Alnwick Castle, famous for its many uses as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. But the town of Alnwick is a great place in itself, make sure you head down to Barter Books, a second-hand bookstore housed in the old Victorian railway station of Alnwick!

9. Newcastle upon Tyne - 8:24
Technically not in the county of Northumberland but Newcastle was the place we stayed during our trip to Northumberland, full of some really interesting architecture and great nightlife!

10. The Angel of The North - 8:47
Located in Gateshead just south of Newcastle, this statue was designed by Antony Gormley in 1998 and is considered an icon of England! Overlooking the A1 and a great place to relax and watch the sunset!
