MORE ABOUT THIS VIDEO ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
When you go to San Sebastian, it’s all about eating pintxos (the local form of tapas). The pintxo bars in this city are incredible. But the historic centre can get really busy. So in this video, my Devour Tours co-founder Lauren and I head to the neighbourhood of Gros (only a 10 minute walk from the history centre) and visit 9 of the best local pintxo bars there.

At each of the 9 places we try the specialty pintxo - everything from foie, to anchovies, to cured pork belly, to cod, to the most amazing fresh tomatoes and even dessert. And in each of the 9 pintxo bars, we’re largely surrounded by locals. So this gives us a great insight into the true local pintxo culture.

I give lots of tips for how to navigate a pinxto bar. And I also show you all the local drinks you should be enjoying with your pintxos. From the local white wine Txakoli, to super dry Basque cider to Rioja (from just 2 hours north), you’ll really get the low down and what drinks to pair with your pintxos!

WHO ARE WE? ????
⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯
Hola, Spain lovers! We're James and Yoly. James is a New Zealander, and Yoly is from Spain. And we both live in Madrid. This channel is all about giving you a local insight into life in Spain, and helping you experience this country like a local when you come to visit (or live!). If that sounds like your kind of thing, bienvenido!

The Ultimate San Sebastian Pintxos Bar Crawl

San Sebastian also known as Donostia is a culinary mecca and a foodie's paradise. This remarkable city is widely regarded as one of the best food destinations in the world. Our first visit in 2019 was unforgettable. This is when we tasted our first gilda (a skewer of olives, green peppers and anchovy) at Bar Valles, devoured super tender beef cheeks at Borda Berri, sampled possibly the best cheesecake at La Viña and drank endless glasses of txakoli (a bone dry slightly sparkling white wine) at every bar. Not to forget that we had an unbelievable meal at Arzak where we met chef Eleña Arzak in person.

4 years later, we return to this gastronomic capital with every intention to stuff our faces with more pintxos (small plates eaten as appetizers with drinks before dinner). Bar Nestor ( is where you can get the best tortilla de patatas in the city, possibly all of Spain or in the world. In order to snag your piece (limited to one slice per person), you need to arrive at least 1 hour before opening time to put your name down on the list. Once the doors open at 12:45 pm for lunch or 7:45 pm for dinner, you will be rewarded with an amazing onion/potato omelet unlike any other. Only 16-17 portions are available per shift! It is paired perfectly with a glass of Txakoli. Just watching the staff pour the bottle of wine high above the glass to create tiny bubbles is a show in itself.

To maximize your bar crawl, consult the Pintxos app (no we are not sponsored by them). It lists out which restaurants are near you, if they are open and which dishes you don't want to miss. Download it here:

Some memorable pintxos:

Bar txepetxa ( the Jardinera – a salsa of red and green peppers, guindillas, onion; Crema de Centolla – creamy spider crab; Pintxo de Antxoas con salsa de Arándanos - anchovies with blueberry jam

Gandarias ( Solomillo - Grilled beef sirloin; Brocheta de gamba - prawns and Iberian bacon with a vinaigrette of red and green pepper and spring onion.

Txuleta ( croqueta de chuleta - Steak croquette

To our surprise we came during the San Sebastian Carnival. There were multiple parades going on and locals dressed in elaborate costumes and outfits. We also bumped into a talented group that was lip syncing, air guitaring and dancing to 50s music. That is the beauty of travel...you never know what you are going to come across.

Our videos are beyond a simple travel guide, vlog or a list of travel tips. We want to inspire you to explore and see the city yourself! And there is a reason why people travel for food!

????Ronda de la Universitat????

Ronda de la Universitat is a major thoroughfare of central Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, in lower side of the Dreta de l'Eixample, in the Eixample district.
It links two of the city's three main squares, running from Plaça de Catalunya towards Plaça Universitat. There it meets Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and Ronda de Sant Antoni begins.
It's essentially the same street as Ronda de Sant Pere, which follows it right after Plaça de Catalunya. As the other ronda, it follows the original outline of the medieval city walls, particularly the wall of Tallers, above the area nowadays known as Raval, where a road called Carrer de Tallers runs partially parallel to it.
Ronda de la Universitat was paved in 1872. It takes its name from the Universitat de Barcelona, which has had its main building at Plaça Universitat since the 19th century.
Before its current name was approved in 1989, its official name was in Spanish: Universidad.

????Universitat de Barcelona????

The University of Barcelona (in Catalan and officially called Universitat de Barcelona , UB) is a Spanish public university based in the city of Barcelona . It was founded in 1450 and is considered one of the oldest universities in Spain. Currently, its powers are distributed in Barcelona and surroundings: University campus, the El Raval, Diagonal, that of Bellvitge , the Torribera, the Mundet, that of Sants and the Hospital Clinic. The Library of the University of Barcelona, with 1,611,721 volumes, is the second largest university library in Spain after the Library of the Complutense University of Madrid .

The origins of the UB go back to 1401 , when Martín I the Human wanted to grant Barcelona the study of medicine . However, the Barcelona City Council of One Hundred refused, since they believed their powers had been invaded; likewise, the General Study of Lérida protested, since this would break its virtual monopoly of higher education in the Crown of Aragon .
Half a century later, in 1450 , King Alfonso the Magnanimous founded the General Study of Barcelona, that is, the current university. It incorporated some existing educational institutions, such as the Cathedral school or the municipal schools. For this reason, the university had, unlike others, a marked municipal character, with little control by the crown.
