10 Best Small Towns to Live in England

What are the best towns to live in England? Living in England means different things to different people. For some people, it’s either London or nowhere else whenever it comes down to the best places to live in England. Others would consider some other big cities if London is taken out. But did you know there are some who actually desire to live in small towns in England? Please don’t jump to any conclusion as to why they choose to live in a small town. It might not be due to just economic reasons. As you’d see on our list of 12 best small towns to live in England, certain towns have charms and allure that can cause a lover of beauty and nature to consider making them home.
10. Windsor, Berkshire
The next of the best small towns to live in England is Windsor in Berkshire. This town, for centuries, remains a popular destination for tourists living in England or the entire United Kingdom and for tourists from all parts of Europe. Those who chose to live in this town may have been attracted by the added fame it once received as the royal wedding venue for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. You could find accommodation in Windsor Castle, the world’s largest occupied castle. Since it’s a weekend and holiday home for the Queen, those living in Windsor consider it a privilege to walk the streets with her majesty without visiting Buckingham palace.
9. Frome, Somerset
Now, let’s shift our attention to Frome as one of the 12 best small towns to live in England. We don’t need a lot of explanation that transcends being voted as one of the best places to live in the UK. Though small, this town has quality schools considered one of the best to cater to the needs of families intending to live in a small town in England. Many people living in modern homes in big cities crave living in a small town in a historic and architecturally fascinating building. There are plenty of these in the center of the town of Frome lined with many independent shops.
8. Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire
This town is home to the famous Henley Royal Regatta. This boat race coming up in early July always gives the residents of this beautiful spot which was established as a market town in the 12th century the opportunity to interface with thousands of visitors. Henley-on-Thames is chocolaty. Having a respite at Chocolate Café, a local hot spot known for chocolate treats, either hot or cold, is one reason to consider this town one of the best places to live in England. It’s a place people enjoy good cardiovascular health because walking the Thames Path National Trail is a regular part of life in this town.
7. Bakewell, Derbyshire
We next turn to Bakewell a small market town in the Dales of Derbyshire County. Bakewell too is among the best small towns to live in England. We agree with the popular opinion that ranks Bakewell well on the basis of its three highly rated principal primary schools, secondary schools, and preparatory school and college. Another one of the attractions making Bakewell one of the most popular small towns in England is its Peak District National Park and Derbyshire Dales. Living in this small town affords you a chance of finding a home in these prestigious locations with their charming stone cottages, attractive rugged moorland, and green valleys.

Pro travel tip: Keep your stroller with you as long as possible! Click destination for full review!

✅PROS:
✨ It’s super light weight and compact
✈️ They way it looks is exactly what you can expect. Folded up it could probably fit in a large purse and the weight is practically nothing - my guess is probably less than 10lbs (which is a nice change from my normal double jogging stroller????)

✨You can actually board a plane with littles in this stroller!
✈️ This thing will fit down almost all plane aisles. Out of 9 flights we’ve been on- there has been only one plane that it wouldn’t fit down the aisle for. This made boarding so much easier!

✨Easy to maneuver
✈️Some umbrella type strollers are pretty annoying to maneuver- this one however is pretty reasonable (so long as you’re on normal terrain)

‼️CONS:
✨ Not good for napping/no recline
✈️ There’s no recline so can make it difficult for baby to nap.
✨ Canopy is pretty much useless
✈️There is a small canopy on the model we have. It’s more expensive but honestly doesn’t do much for the sun at all and blows back a lot. So wouldn’t pay the extra for canopy tbh
✨No double stroller option ????
✈️Sorry twin mamas, but they don’t come in double option so had to buy two of these (which is a bit pricey)
✨Not great if you’re over 6ft
✈️My bro is 6’5 and was hunched down pretty far when using it. Handles aren’t adjustable so just something to keep in mind.

Worth it? I think so! Our only other option was to use our double jogging stroller and that is a BEAST to lug around. Personally I think w/e travel stroller you get it’s just helpful if it’s light weight and you can fold it as a carry-on. I’ve heard horror stories with gate checking strollers and parts breaking so this was the main reason we liked these so much!

I’ve linked this stroller in my Amazon store front if you’re interested! Any other stroller suggestions for travel please share below!✨✈️

Quick trip to Gibraltar - NOT WHAT I EXPECTED!

I decided to make a quick trip to Gibraltar. I've never been before. I had an expectation in my mind that it would be some kind of ultra British enclave, but its not at all. They voted overwhelmingly to Remain. I spotted one Union flag on the high street. I didn't do the tunnels or go to harass the Monkeys, I'll do that at a later date. Huge queue of cars to get in, but I just parked up on the Spanish side and walked across. I wandered up and down Main Street, which felt like any European town. I'll go back in 2023 and do the tunnels.

Bentley Priory

Bentley Priory held an open day on 14.09.08.
Bentley Priory in Stanmore, north west London, played a crucial role in Fighter Command's protection of Britain from Luftwaffe raids. Under Air Chief Marshal Lord Dowding, the mansion house acted as the RAF nerve centre during the air onslaught of 1940. Officers used eyewitness, radar and radio intercept information to track the arrival of German aircraft, ensuring fighters could be scrambled before enemy bombers reached their targets.

The Grade II listed mansion was immortalised by the 1969 film Battle of Britain, in which Lord Dowding -- played by Laurence Olivier -- was shown watching London burn from his balcony.

Hotel Review: Best Western Bentley Hotel, South Hykeham, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England - May 2017

I stayed at the Best Western Bentley Hotel in Lincoln, in May 2017. Two of us stayed for 2 nights, bed and breakfast, which cost £205.20 booked with Booking.com.

The room was nice and large, and came with bath robes, a bizarrely placed safe on the floor, excellent air conditioning, corby trouser press, tea and coffee, desk, hairdryer, mirrors, flat screen Panasonic TV, ample plug sockets (around 7), telephone, clock radio, coffee table and two chairs, king-sized bed, standard lamp, and radiator. The bathroom was decent and clean, with a shower / bath arrangement. The room was very good overall, although upon entering there was a faint whiff of cigarettes, I didn't let this put me off, but it wasn't great.

The breakfast buffet was excellent, no complaints at all. The restaurant was VERY busy though on the bank holiday weekend that I stayed there.

The bar was small and basic, but OK for a quick pint. The hotel had a very large swimming pool (20 metres by 10 metres I am guessing), which was well used during our stay by ourselves and other guests. I couldn't film there though, so this is not included in the film, but it was a very good feature.

The main disadvantage of this hotel is it's distance to the city centre. It is 6.3 miles and a 15 - 20 minute drive to Lincoln Cathedral. We drove there and back once, but parking was difficult, so we took a taxi there and back the day afterwards, I've forgotten how much this cost (I'm guessing around £15 each way), but we had to wait over an hour for a taxi there and back. It seems that Lincoln is a city with not enough taxis...Uber - take note!!!

This film features the following: an external view of the hotel, the lift / elevator, a first floor corridor, a detailed inspection of room 245, restaurant, breakfast buffet and bar.

I enjoyed my stay at this hotel, and would very likely stay here again in future, if I were in Lincoln - just to use the swimming pool!

Places to see in ( Stanmore - UK )

Places to see in ( Stanmore - UK )

Stanmore is a suburban residential district of northwest London in the London Borough of Harrow. It is centred 11 miles northwest of Charing Cross. The area, based on the ancient parish of Great Stanmore includes southern slopes of the unnamed ridge of hills rising to Stanmore Hill, one of the highest points of London, 152 metres (499 ft) high. The population of the appropriate London Borough of Harrow Ward (Stanmore Park) was 11,229 at the 2011 Census. The Canons ward which covers Stanmore railway station and eastern areas had a population of 12,471 at the same census.

The area was recorded in the Domesday Book as Stanmere, the name deriving from the Old English stan, 'stony' and mere, 'a pool'. There are outcrops of gravel on the clay soil here and the mere may have been one of the ponds which still exist. By 1574 the area had become known as Great Stanmore to distinguish it from Little Stanmore.

Stanmore Village railway station was open for train services between 1890 and 1952. Stanmore tube station opened in 1932.
Stanmore had an outstation from the Bletchley Park codebreaking establishment, where some of the Bombes used to decode German Enigma messages in World War Two were housed.

Andrew Drummond, the founder of the Drummond bank in Charing Cross purchased the Stanmore estate in 1729 . Stanmore was also home to RAF Bentley Priory from where the Battle of Britain was controlled, also formerly to RAF Stanmore Park, HQ of Balloon Command. RAF Stanmore Park closed in 1997 and is now a housing estate and RAF Bentley Priory closed in 2009.

The suburb is characterised by numerous small restaurants and cafés, several public houses, many unique shops like a natural health store and boutique-style clothing stores. The centre of Stanmore is dominated by the presence of a large Sainsbury's supermarket and also a large Lidl supermarket. There are also eateries such as Prezzo and Costa Coffee in the centre of the town. Stanmore's extensive residential areas are mainly leafy and predominantly affluent, with many residents commuting daily to jobs in central London including the City.

The public amenity of Stanmore Park is at the foot of Stanmore Hill and right next to the local library. This is just one of the two outdoor leisure fields, the other being Whitchurch Playing Fields adjacent to Whitchurch First and Middle School and opposite to Stanburn First and Middle School. The playing field hosts many Sunday league football matches on the individual football pitches with respective goal frames.

On the border with Bushey is Stanmore Cricket Club, one of the oldest in the Middlesex county championship league which celebrated 150 years in 2003 and is still successful at the present. The club has nurtured two famous cricketers who have played Tests for England in the last two decades; Angus Fraser and Mark Ramprakash.

Stanmore is home to Park High School, Stanmore College (a government further education establishment) and a local library run by the London Borough of Harrow. North London Collegiate School, one of the UK's top public schools for girls is in Stanmore. The suburb also hosts the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital - known as RNOH - which is famed for its spinal unit.

( Stanmore - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Stanmore . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Stanmore - UK

Bentley's Continental GT3 - Unravel Travel TV

Bentley's new Continental GT3 race car is to spearhead the famous British marque's presence at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed, taking place from 12th-14th July 2013 in Sussex, England. With a busy schedule of development work ahead of it before marking Bentley's return to the racetrack later this year, the new Continental GT3 makes its global debut in front of the crowds at Goodwood on Friday 12th July 2013. Following its global unveiling at 10:15, the car takes to the hill at 13:25. Demonstrating the performance potential that lies embedded in the DNA of every Continental GT, the GT3 is the most extreme form of the iconic Grand Tourer ever.

The GT3 will be joined at Goodwood by two road-going members of its Continental family. Four-time World Rally Champion Juha Kankkunen will drive the breath-taking Continental GT Speed coupe up the famous Goodwood hill-climb over all three days of the Festival. With a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h), the GT Speed is the fastest production Bentley ever. Its 6.0-litre, twin-turbo W12 engine delivers equally stunning acceleration: 0-60 mph in 4.0 secs (0-100 km/h in 4.2 secs).

Five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell MBE once again dons the Bentley overalls for the event, this year piloting the fastest four-seat convertible in the world -- the 202 mph (325 km/h) GT Speed Convertible. With a more dynamic chassis setup, increased power and torque and a host of subtle yet distinctive styling cues, the GT Speed Convertible is the pinnacle of the Continental range. Derek comments: Coming back to Goodwood with Bentley is always a real honour, and this year I have the pleasure of driving a 616 bhp convertible up the infamous hill. 2013 is certain to be a great year for us at the Festival.
