XATIVA! I fell in love while on the perfect day-trip from Valencia.

When looking online for a rewarding day-trip from Valencia, the name Xativa continually appeared. So many people couldn't be wrong, so I caught the train from Valencia Nord. What an amazing day. I also realised I loved Europe's Mediterrean coast.

Filmed January 2023 | Xativa, Spain.

Beniganim Village

The small town of Beniganim, with its many chapels, churches, ermitas and narrow streets of the oldest area, dating back to the 11 century, all contrast well with the newer buildings and wider streets of recent decades. All of which encourage the visitor to explore the town and the surrounding area.

Tiny Tour | Alcoi Spain | The city of bridges in Alicante 2020 Feb

Alcoy (in Valencian and co-officially, Alcoi ) is a municipality and a city located in the southeast of Spain , in the province of Alicante , Valencian Community . It is the capital of the Hoya de Alcoy region, within the Valles de Alcoy sub-region. It has 58 994 inhabitants. 3 It is one of the most important cities and the twelfth by population of the Valencian Community.
After the Roman conquest of the Iberians, several rural villas were built in the area, as well as a necropolis. The town was established in 1256 by James I of Aragon, with the construction of a castle on a strategic position over the Serpis rive, to secure the southern frontier of the Kingdom of Valencia during the Reconquista.
In 1291 the town was donated by King James II of Aragon to the Sicilian admiral Roger of Lauria; it will not return a royal possession until 1430.
During the War of Spanish Succession, Alcoi sided for the cause of archduke Charles, and was therefore besieged and stripped of numerous privileges, which started a period of decline.

Tiny Tour | Xativa Spain | The 2300-year-old ancient Xàtiva Castle in Valencia 2020 Feb

Xativa Castle (Spanish: Castillo de Xátiva; Valencian: Castell de Xàtiva) is a castle located in the city of Xàtiva near Valencia, Spain. It is strategically located on the ancient roadway Via Augusta leading from Rome across the Pyrenees and down the Mediterranean coast to Cartagena and Cádiz.

This fortification has its origins in an Iberian construction that used one of the highest parts of the mountain at this point (Castillo Menor). When conquering it, the Romans later added a second fortress that communicated with the previous one (Castillo Mayor), at the other elevated point that the mountain presented. Both were reformed by the Arabs, who also widened the wall, until it practically coincided with the one currently known. Later, with more or less reforms, these walls and the castle faced the conquest of Jaime I, the rebellion of the Germanías and the war of Succession , but the base of the architectural ensemble was this.

Xàtiva, Spain 2019 (city hightlights)

Xàtiva is a small mountain town in Valencia province with no more than 30,000 inhabitants. We spent just one day there but the upcoming rainfalls forced us to move quickly away early in the morning the day after because we knew that there would be no bus or train to reach Barcelona airport on time.
The town has a well-preserved city centre where you can stroll and check the architecture, squares, memorials and some churches before you start hiking up the hill for the dramatically-situated fortress.
