10 Worst Towns to Live in Wales

What are the worst towns to live in Wales? We don’t want to make it boring. Otherwise, we would have listed all the towns in Wales in the order of how they are considered good. Even if we could do that, some people may view such a listing as conjectural. Towns considered good by a reviewer may be seen as bad by another. But then, for the sake of this production, let’s assume that all the towns in Wales are good. But they can’t all be equally good. If some had higher degrees of goodness, yes, they are better. And if some towns are better than others, the logic follows that some are worse. On that positive note, let’s discuss the 10 worst towns to live in Wales.

10. Ebbw Vale
Ebbw Vale, the town at the head of the valley which is formed by the Ebbw Fawr tributary of the Ebbw River is the largest town in Blaenau Gwent county borough. Its direct access to the A465 Heads of the Valleys trunk road doesn’t make it a good place to live in Wales. The town bordering the Brecon Beacons National Park Ebbw Vale isn’t economically viable with the second-lowest mean salary in Britain. In fact, for the people to survive, 5 food banks are operating in the community. This has also affected the town educationally. This is indicated by its having the worst GCSE results in Wales. Meanwhile, Ebbw Vale is the town with the cheapest home price in England and Wales as no one would be willing to buy a home in a place very bad to live in.
9. Pontypool
As we think about Pontypool, we’re filled with the emotion of love for the residents of the people. No, this doesn’t mean we love to live among them or envy their situation. We only salute their resilience that makes them remain in a town without no places to visit, no nightlife, no restaurants and bars, and with zero social life. This administrative center of the county borough of Torfaen has nothing like a sense of community. Ironically, there’s no privacy in this town as almost everyone will notice your presence or absence. Your financial status is in public knowledge. Care needs to be taken in such a town to select a date if you don’t want to have an incestuous amorous affair.
8. Llangefni
The case of Llangefni, the county town of Anglesey, whose name in Welsh means meaning “church on the River Cefni,” is pathetic. The town which is home to the principal offices of the Isle of Anglesey County Council and the second largest settlement in that county has too many bad reviews. But to stay on a kinder side, we would side with those who consider it one of the worst Welsh towns to live because of the number of old people in the town. The town is actually gradually taking up the appearance of old peoples’ homes as it has a higher percentage of older people. That should tell you that the town is boring and is economically disadvantaged. The town’s unemployment rate is higher than the national average.
7. Port Talbot
What image does the name of the town, Port Talbot evoke? If you choose to turn a blind eye to the negatives, you are likely to see a town and community of the home of one of the biggest steelworks in the world. That is cute. But that economic opportunity which covers a large area of land, dominating the southeast of the town does not come without a cost for the town. The environmental pollution this has caused for the town some 13 kilometers from Swansea has made it one of the worst places to live. The town is filled with the stench from this and other dirt dominating the place.
6. Llantwit Major
Our attention is now on Llantwit Major, a community on the Bristol Channel coast. This is one of 4 towns in the Vale of Glamorgan. The community located about 7.2 kilometers from Cowbridge, 14 kilometers from Bridgend, 16 kilometers from Barry, and 24 kilometers from Cardiff has not allowed these nice locations to rub off on it. It is one of the 10 worst places in Wales on this list for anyone who cares about safety. The crime rate there is rather on the high side and this is obviously inimical a good living. We would recommend living in any other place in Wales before mentioning Llantwit Major.

* I would like to thank Visit Berlin for providing us with a Berlin Welcome Card that gives free public transport and discounted entry to attractions.
More information about the Berlin Welcome Card here:

We started our day with a Welcome to Berlin free walking tour from GuruWalks, it was almost 3 hours long and we visited some of the most popular sites in Berlin including:
TV tower
Red Town Hall and the remains of the old Berlin
Museum Island and the Berlin Cathedral
Unter Den Linden and Humboldt University
Gendarmenmarkt and Book Burning Sites
Checkpoint Charlie and Berlin Wall stories
Adolf Hitler’s Bunker Site
Jewish Holocaust Memorial
Brandenburg Gate

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to get a quick but informative tour of Berlin.

For more information on the free walking tour featured in the video click here:

We then headed over to the Reichstag where we climbed to the Dome and roof, it offers spectacular views of the parliamentary and government district and Berlin’s sights. This is a very difficult tour to get on so needs to be booked well in advance, especially during summer.

After the Reichstag we has lunch with some curry wurst before walking back past the Brandenburg Gate towards Museum Island to visit the Neues Museum. They have a large collection of Egyptian artefacts, the main one being the bust of Nefertiti.

Before are next site we stopped for some Ice Cream and then visited the DDR Museum. At the DDR Museum you can enjoy an immersive experience of everyday life in the former East Germany. Covering a range of topics based on sound academic research – everyday life, the Berlin Wall, the Stasi and much more.

We then walked back past Check Point Charlie and the Berlin Wall before visiting our final attraction of the day, The Topography of Terror. It's an outdoor and indoor history museum. It is located on the site of buildings, which during the Nazi regime from 1933 to 1945 was the SS Reich Security Main Office, the headquarters of the Sicherheitspolizei, SD, Einsatzgruppen and Gestapo.

We finished the evening with dinner before getting ready for our journey to Amsterdam the next day.

DJI Mini 3 Pro - Rockingham Castle

Rockingham Castle is a former royal castle and hunting lodge in Rockingham Forest approximately two miles north from the town centre of Corby, Northamptonshire.
The site on which the castle stands was used in the Iron Age, in the Roman period, by the Saxons, Normans, Tudors and also in the medieval period. This is because its position on elevated ground provides clear views of the Welland Valley from a strong defensible location.

Temporary Atlas: Artists in conversation

MOSTYN Director and curator Alfredo Cramerotti in discussion with three of the artists presenting work in Temporary Atlas: Mapping the Self in the Art of Today: Adéọlá Dewis, Manon Awst and Paul Eastwood.

Temporary Atlas: Mapping the Self in the Art of Today (25/06/2022 - 25/09/2022) presents a selection of works that explore an alternative, complementary idea to cartography, the traditional science or practice of drawing maps.

The 17 cartographer-artists of Temporary Atlas investigate their perceptions using a traditional approach to mapping but expand it along unconventional paths. They reflect upon identity, spirituality, the subconscious, emotions, physical and mental sensation, and challenge the methods and rules we use to interpret such maps.

Each of us experiences, judges and assigns our personal priorities based upon our needs and context, and these priorities have been tested by the global pandemic.

The works on display propose perceptive and physical maps that provide insight into the artists’ personal experiences, whilst evoking mental landscapes within which the viewer can orientate themselves; worlds beyond objective geographical coordinates.

Temporary Atlas suggests ways in which we can try to make sense of our new circumstances and aims to deepen the dialogue on personal experience in relation to the society in which we now live.

Curated by Mostyn Director, Dr Alfredo Cramerotti, Temporary Atlas, includes works by artists Sanford Biggers, Seymour Chwast, Jeremy Deller, Sarah Entwistle, Enam Gbewonyo, Rochelle Goldberg, Oliver Laric, James Lewis, Ibrahim Mahama, Paul Maheke, Matt Mullican, Otobong Nkanga, Kiki Smith, Walid Raad and specially commissioned work from three Welsh artists Manon Awst, Adéolá Dewis and Paul Eastwood.

More information about the exhibition is available onMostyn website:
