Where can we even begin? It was love at first sight with Amasra, Turkey!
We had no idea Turkey's Black Sea Coast was this beautiful. We have to go back and explore more of it, that's for sure! In this video we share with you the picturesque town of Amasra, in Turkey's Black Sea Coast. We stayed here for 9 nights on our way to Istanbul from Rize. We were craving being in a small town where we could relax and catch up with work. It was a success!
We visited Amasra in the off-season and it was completely empty. We read this little coastal town gets packed during Summer! We would 100% go back and if you are visiting Turkey, we definitely recommend including this area to your itinerary.

Formerly a district of Zonguldak Province, Bartın was made into a province seat in 1991 with the constitution of its province, including four districts: Central Bartın, Amasra, Kurucaşile, and Ulus.

Bugün Batı Karadeniz'in güzel şehri Bartın'dayız. Bartın küçük bir şehir. Tarihi ve doğal güzellikleriyle tanınıyor. Nüfusu yaklaşın 200.000 olan Bartın, 1991 yılında Zonguldak ilinden ayrılarak Türkiye’nin 74. ili olmuş. Doğusunda Kastamonu, güneyinde Karabük, batısında Zonguldak illeri bulunuyor.
Şehrin ortasından geçen Bartın Nehri bölgeye ayrı bir atmosfer katıyor. Şehir aynı zamanda güzel ve dinlendirici bir ormanlık alana da sahip. Amasra Yolu olarak da bilinen bu bölge, doğa yürüyüşleri, piknik alanları ve temiz havasıyla bilinir. Şehir merkezinde gezilecek yerler arasında Bartın Kalesi önemli bir nokta. Bu kale Bizans döneminden kalma ve tarihi dokusunu korumuştur. Ayrıca Bartın Müzesi, şehrin tarihini ve kültürünü keşfetmek için harika bir yer. Today we are in Bartın, the beautiful city of the Western Black Sea Region. Bartin is a small city. It is known for its historical and natural beauties. Bartın, whose population is about 200,000, left Zonguldak in 1991 and became the 74th province of Turkey. There are Kastamonu in the east, Karabük in the south, and Zonguldak in the west.
The Bartın River, which runs through the middle of the city, adds a different atmosphere to the region. The city also has a beautiful and relaxing forest area. Also known as Amasra Road, this region is known for its nature walks, picnic areas and fresh air. Bartın Castle is an important point among the places to visit in the city center. This castle dates from the Byzantine period and has preserved its historical texture. Also, the Bartın Museum is a great place to explore the history and culture of the city. Bugün Batı Karadeniz bölgesinde Türkiye’nin en küçük illerinden birinde Bartın’dayız.

Bartın, Türkiye'nin Karadeniz Bölgesi'nde Batı Karadeniz Bölümünde yer alır. 1991 yılında Zonguldak ilinden ayrılarak Türkiye'nin 74. ili olmuştur.
Doğusunda Kastamonu, güneyinde Karabük, batısında Zonguldak ve kuzeyinde Karadeniz bulunur. Orman bakımından zengin olan ilin büyük bir kısmı Küre Dağları Millî Parkı sınırları içerisinde yer almaktadır. Bartın Çayı Türkiye'de üzerinde taşımacılık yapılan tek akarsudur.
Parthenia’dan Bartın’a dönüşen adın kaynağı Parthenios’dur.
Bartın Irmağının antik çağdaki adı olan Parthenios; Yunan mitolojisinde,Tanrıların Babası Okeanos’un çocukları olan yüzlerce tanrıdan birisi ve Sular Tanrısı’dır. Sular İlahı veya Muhteşem Akan Su anlamlarına gelir. Romalılar devrinde Bartın Çayına Parthenius deniliyordu.
Çayın kıyısında kurulan şehre ise Parthenia adı verildi. Bu isim zamanla Bartın’a dönüşmüştür. Bartın ili, tarihi Paphlagonia antik kentlerinden Sesamos (Amasra), Kromna (Kurucaşile) ve Erythinoi (Çakraz)'ı sınırları içerisinde bulundurmaktadır.
Kuzeyini 59 km'lik sahil şeridiyle Karadeniz çevrilidir. Yüzölçümü 2143 km²’dir. 2020 nüfusu 200 bin’dir. Bartın; doğu, batı ve kuzeyden yüksekliği 2000 m’yi geçmeyen dağlarla çevrilidir. Dağlar, yüksek olmamakla birlikte oldukça dik, sahillere doğru sarp ve kayalıktır. Kent merkezini batıdan Aladağ, kuzeyden Karasu dağları ve doğudan Arıt Dağları kuşatmaktadır.
Halatçıyaması, Orduyeri, Kırtepe ve Ömertepesi kentin üzerine kurulduğu dört önemli tepedir.
Bartın’ın ilk sahiplerinin, MÖ 14. yy’da Gaskalar ve MÖ 13. yy’da Hititler olduğu kabul edilmekte. MÖ 12. yy sonlarında Bithynie Bölgesindeki Bartın Friglerin, Paplagonie Bölgesindeki Amasra Fenikelilerin eline geçmiş, Fenikeliler; Amasra (Sesamos), Ereğli (Heraklia), Sinop(Sinope) ve Tekkeönü’nde (Kromna) ilk Sayda Kolonilerini oluşturmuşlardır.
Bartın ve çevresi, MÖ 7. yy sonlarında Kimmerlerin, MÖ 6 yy’da Lidyalıların, MÖ 547 yılında da Perslerin hâkimiyetine girdi. 216 yıllık Pers döneminde Karadeniz Kolonileri Perslon dostluğu sayesinde uzun süre bu statülerini korudular. MÖ 334 yılında, Makedonya Kralı Büyük İskender, Perslerin hâkimiyetine son vererek bölgenin sahibi oldu. Amasra ve Bartın çevresi yöredeki savaşlar sonrasında MÖ 279 yılında Pontus Krallığının egemenliğine girdi. MÖ 70 yılında Anadolu’ya giren Romalılar, Pontus Krallığının egemenliğine son vererek yöreye sahip oldular. Roma döneminde Bitinya ve Pontusun Paflagonyadaki bölümü Bitinya-Pontus eyaleti olarak Satraplıkla yönetilmeye başladı. Amasra bu eyaletin Pontus bölümü başkenti oldu.
Bartın ve çevresi MÖ 390 yıllarında Hazar hükümdarı Sahip Han komutasındaki Peçenek ve Kumanların, MS 798 yıllarında Abdülmelik komutasındaki Müslüman Arapların, 800 yıllarında Selçukluların ve 865 yıllarında da Rusların yoğun akınlarına hedef oldu. Bartın ve çevresi 11 yy sonlarında Anadolu Selçuklularının eline geçti. 200 yıllık Selçuklu döneminden sonra 1326’da Kastamonu yöresine hâkim olan Candaroğulları Beyliği’ne, 1392’den itibaren de Osmanlı sınırları içinde yer aldı.
1460 yılına gelindiğinde, Bartın ve Çevresi; Osmanlı İmparatorluğu sınırları içinde, Amasra ise Ceneviz Kolonisi idi. Anadolu’da Türk birliğini sağlamak Cenevizlilerin elinde bulunan Karadeniz ticaretini ve denizyolunu ülkesine kazandırmak amacıyla Kuzey Anadolu Seferine hazırlanan Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han, ilk hedef olarak Amasra, Kastamonu ve Sinop’ seçti. 1460 ylında Mehmet Paşa Komutasındaki Osmanlı Donanması da denizden hareket etti. Yoluna devam eden Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Ekim ayında Bartın’a gelip ordugahını bugünkü Orduyeri’ne kurdu. Donanmayla haberleşme sağlayan haberciler, Donanmanın Amasra açıklarında göründüğünü bildirdiklerinde, Amasra üzerine yürüyen Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Ceneviz Senyoru’ndan kan dökülmemeden Amasra’yı teslim aldı.
Bartın; Karadeniz Bölgesinin, Batı bölümünde, denizden 10 km içerde kurulmuş, tarihi, turistik değerleri, ormanları ve doğal güzellikleri yönünden Türkiye’nin çok önemli ve gelişmekte olan illerinden biridir.
Bartın, Batı Karadeniz’de doğal güzelliği, plajları, tarihi yapıları, mağaralarıyla ilgi çeken bir ildir. İnkumu, Amasra, Çakraz, Kızılkum, Mogada, Güzelcehisar ve Bozköy sadece yörenin değil, Batı Karadeniz bölgesinin önemli plajlarıdır. Bartın’ın ortasından akan Bartın ırmağı, durgun akması nedeniyle taşımacılık için elverişlidir. Irmak boyunca yürüme yerleri, tarihi yalılar ve alabildiğine doğal güzellikler görülmeğe değerdir.
